According to the recent policies.regarding energy us. in buildings.and the need of retrofit s.rategies.the aim of this.work is.to s.pport policies.concerning the ins.allation of ground s.urce heat exchangers.in urban and his.orical areas.rais.ng the awarenes. on the potential energy s.ving achievable with optimal s.zing and limited impact on the urban *** have been developed dis.inguis.ing among exis.ing and his.oric buildings.focus.ng on s.ngle-family terrace hous.s.which are the typical res.dential buildings.in European his.oric centres.A methodology for the optimal s.zing of ground s.urce heat pumps.eventually cons.dering dual-s.urce s.s.em or air s.s.em has.been developed combining s.mulations.of a photovoltaic s.s.em to es.imate the s.lf-s.fficiency and the s.lf-cons.mption for five orientations.of the *** res.lts.have been obtained for warm cli-mates.with negligible heating energy demand and pos.ibly free cooling s.s.ems.rather than traditional cooling s.s.ems.needed in *** temperature was.acceptable des.ite unbalanced energy *** proper inclination,photovoltaic s.s.ems.could provide up to 40%of s.lf-s.fficiency s.are als. in northern *** energy-economic analys.s.was.carried out obtaining a variety of cas.s.repres.nting a general overview of the European building s.ock and the potential benefits.achievable in terms.of renewable energy s.are,energy s.vings.and economic inves.ments.needed to be extended to s.mulations.at urban s.ale.

Marine heatwaves.MHWs.caus.d by anthropogenic climate change are becoming a key driver of change at the ecos.s.em *** conditions.experienced by marine organis.s.acros. their dis.ribution,particularly towards.the equator,are likely to approach their phys.ological limits.res.lting in extens.ve mortality and s.bs.quent changes.at the population *** at the margins.of their s.ecies.dis.ribution are thought to be more s.ns.tive to climate-induced environmental pres.ures.than central populations.but our unders.anding of variability in fitnes.-related phys.ological traits.in trailing vers.s.leading-edge populations.is.*** a laboratory s.mulation s.udy,we tes.ed whether two leading(Iceland)and two trailing(s.ain)peripheral populations.of the intertidal macroalga Corallina officinalis.dis.lay different levels.of maximum potential quantum efficiency(Fv/Fm)res.lience to current and future winter MHWs.*** s.udy revealed that ongoing and future local winter MHWs.will not negatively affect leading-edge populations.of ***,which exhibited s.able photos.nthetic efficiency throughout the *** edge populations.s.owed a pos.tive though non-s.gnificant trend in photos.nthetic efficiency throughout winter MHWs.*** and equatorward populations.did not produce s.gnificantly different res.lts.with winter MHWs.having no negative affect on Fv/Fm of either ***,we found no long-term regional or population-level influence of a winter MHWs.on this.s.ecies.photos.nthetic ***,we found no s.atis.ically s.gnificant difference in thermal s.res. res.ons.s.between leading and trailing ***,*** s.owed a trend towards.higher s.res. res.ons.s.in s.uthern than northern *** res.ons.s.res. on a variety of local population traits.they are difficult to predict bas.d s.lely on thermal pres.ures.

Background In beef cattle, more than 50% of the energy input to produce a unit of beef is.cons.med by the female that produced the calf. Development of genomic tools.to identify females.with high genetic merit for reproductive function could increas. the profitability and s.s.ainability of beef *** Genome-wide as.ociation s.udies.GWAs. were performed us.ng a s.ngle-s.ep genomic bes. linear unbias.d prediction approach on pregnancy outcome traits.from a population of Angus.Brahman cros.bred heifers. Furthermore, a validation GWAs.was.performed us.ng data from another farm. Heifers.were genotyped with the Bovine GGP F250 array that contains.221,077 s.Ps. In the dis.overy population, heifers.were bred in winter breeding s.as.ns.involving a s.ngle round of timed artificial ins.mination(AI) followed by natural mating for 3 months. Two phenotypes.were analyzed: pregnancy outcome to firs.-s.rvice AI(PAI;n = 1,481) and pregnancy s.atus.at the end of the breeding s.as.n(PEBs.n = 1,725). The heritability was.es.imated as.0.149 and 0.122 for PAI and PEBs. res.ectively. In the PAI model, one quantitative trait locus.QTL), located between 52.3 and 52.5 Mb on BTA7, explained about 3% of the genetic variation, in a region containing a clus.er of γ-protocadherin genes.and s.C25A2. Other QTLs.explaining between 0.5% and 1% of the genetic variation were found on BTA12 and 25. In the PEBs.model, a large QTL on BTA7 was.s.nonymous.with the QTL for PAI, with minor QTLs.located on BTA5, 9, 10, 11, 19, and 20.
