Infectious burden and atherosclerosis: A clinical issue

Atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases, chronic inflam-matory diseases of multifactorial etiology, are the lead-ing cause of death worldwide. In the last decade, more infectious agents, labeled as "infectious burden", rather than any single pathogen, have been showed to con-tribute to the development of atherosclerosis through different mechanisms. Some microorganisms, such as Chlamydia pneumoniae(C. pneumoniae), human cytomegalovirus, etc. may act directly on the arterial wall contributing to endothelial dysfunction, foam cell formation, smooth muscle cell proliferation, platelet ag-gregation as well as cytokine, reactive oxygen specie, growth factor, and cellular adhesion molecule produc-tion. Others, such as Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori), in-fluenza virus, etc. may induce a systemic inflammation which in turn may damage the vascular wall(e.g., by cytokines and proteases). Moreover, another indirect mechanism by which some infectious agents(such as H. pylori, C. pneumoniae, periodontal pathogens, etc.) may play a role in the pathogenesis of atherosclero-sis is molecular mimicry. Given the complexity of the mechanisms by which each microorganism may con-tribute to atherosclerosis, defining the interplay of moreinfectious agents is far more difficult because the pro-atherogenic effect of each pathogen might be ampli-fied. Clearly, continued research and a greater aware-ness will be helpful to improve our knowledge on the complex interaction between the infectious burden and atherosclerosis.

In this work a comparative bioadsorption study between a biocomposite consisting of hydrolysed vineyard pruning waste entrapped in calcium alginate spheres and non entrapped vineyard residue was carried *** have demonstrated that the biocomposite based on lignocellulose-calcium alginate spheres removed 77.3% of dyes,while non entrapped lignocellulose eliminated only removed 27.8% of colour *** experimental data were fitted to several kinetic models（pseudo-first order,pseudo-second order,Chien-Clayton model,intraparticle diffusion model and Bangham model）; being pseudo-second order the kinetic model that better described the adsorption of dyes onto both *** addition,a morphological study（roughness and shape） of alginate-vineyard biocomposite was established under extreme conditions,observing significant differences between hydrated and dehydrated alginate-vineyard *** techniques used to carry out this morphological study consisted of scanning electron microscopy（SEM）,perfilometry and 3D surface analysis.

X-ray powder diffraction,scanning electron microscopy,energy dispersive spectroscopy,thermogravimetry,differential scanning calorimetry,and mass spectrometry have been used to study the products of nickel-containing pyrrhotite tailings oxidation by oxygen in the *** kinetic triplets of oxidation,namely,activation energy(E_(a)),pre-exponential factor(A),and reaction model(f(α))being a function of the conversion degree(α),were adjusted by regression *** case of a two-stage process representation,the first step proceeds under autocatalysis control and ends atα=*** kinetic triplet in the first step is E_(a)=262.2 kJ/mol,lg A=14.53 s^(−1),and f(α)=(1-α)^(4.11)(1+1.51×10^(-4)α).For the second step,the process is controlled by the two-dimensional diffusion of the reactants in the layer of oxidation *** kinetic triplet in the second step isЕa=215.0 kJ/mol,lg A=10.28 s^(−1),and f(α)=(-ln(1-α))^(-1).The obtained empirical formulae for the rate of pyrrhotite tailings oxidation reliably describe the macro-mechanism of the process and can be used to design automatization systems for roast-ing these materials.

Highly prevalent in nature,cytochrome P450 enzymes are powerful biocatalysts for selective C–H functionalization[1].These heme-containing enzymes activate inert C–H bonds within complex molecules for a plethora of transformations with exquisite regio-,chemo-and *** plant P450s are of industrial relevance in the production of pharmaceuticals,fragrances,pesticides and vitamins,yet few have been employed commercially[2].Key examples include the P450 CYP71AV1 used for large-scale production of the antimalarial drug artemisinin,and CYP75 enzymes exploited for their differential hydroxylation abilities to manipulate color patterns in top-selling flowers[3].These cases illustrate a minuscule portion of the synthetic potential of P450s.

Debris flow triggered by rainfall that accompanies a volcanic eruption is a serious secondary impact of a volcanic *** probability of debris flow events can be estimated based on the prior information of rainfall from historical and geomorphological data that are presumed to relate to debris flow *** this study,a debris flow disaster warning system was developed by applying the Na?¨ve Bayes Classifier(NBC).The spatial likelihood of the hazard is evaluated at a small subbasin scale by including high-resolution rainfall measurements from X-band polarimetric weather radar,a topographic factor,and soil type as *** study was conducted in the Gendol River Basin of Mount Merapi,one of the most active volcanoes in *** and debris flow occurrence data were collected for the upper Gendol River from October 2016 to February 2018 and divided into calibration and validation *** NBC was used to estimate the status of debris flow incidences displayed in the susceptibility map that is based on the posterior probability from the *** system verification was performed by quantitative dichotomous quality indices along with a contingency *** the validation datasets,the advantage of the NBC for estimating debris flow occurrence is *** work contributes to existing knowledge on estimating debris flow susceptibility through the data mining *** the existence of predictive uncertainty,the presented system could contribute to the improvement of debris flow countermeasures in volcanic regions.

Inferring gene regulatory networks （GRNs） is a challenging task in Bioinformatics. In this paper, an algorithm, PCHMS, is introduced to infer GRNs. This method applies the path consistency （PC） algorithm based on conditional mutual information test （PCA-CMI）. In the PC-based algorithms the separator set is determined to detect the dependency between variables. The PCHMS algorithm attempts to select the set in the smart way. For this purpose, the edges of resulted skeleton are directed based on PC algorithm direction rule and mutual information test （MIT） score. Then the separator set is selected according to the directed network by considering a suitable sequential order of genes. The effectiveness of this method is benchmarked through several networks from the DREAM challenge and the widely used SOS DNA repair network of Escherichia coll. Results show that applying the PCHMS algorithm improves the precision of learning the structure of the GRNs in comparison with current popular approaches.

Trichoderma biocontrol strains establish a complex network of interactions with plants,in which diverse fungal molecules are involved in the recognition of these fungi as nonpathogenic *** molecules act as microbial-associated molecular patterns that trigger plant *** studies have reported the im-portance of ergosterol produced by Trichoderma *** the ability of these fungi to induce plant growth and *** addition,squalene,a sterol biosynthetic inter-mediate,seems to play an important role in these ***,we analyzed the effect of different concentrations of ergosterol and squalene on tomato(Solanum lycopersicum)growth and on the transcription level of defense-and growth-related *** used an RNA-seq strategy to identify several tomato genesencoding predicted pattern recognition receptor proteins or WRKY transcription factors,both of which are puta-tively involved in the perception and response to ergo-sterol and ***,an analysis of Arabidopsis thaliana mutants lacking the genes homologous to these tomato candidates led to the identification of a WRKY40 transcription factor that negatively regulates salicylic acid-related genes and positively regulates ethylene-and jasmonate-related genes in the presence of ergosterol and squalene.
