The aims of this study were to determine the meiotic behavior and to estimate pol.en grains via-bil.ty in bean(Phaseol.s vul.aris l.)*** buds were col.ected during different devel.pmental.stages of the Mesoamerican bean cul.ivars IAPAR 44,Guapo Bril.ante,BRS Expedito,BRS Val.nte,Guateian 6662 and Pérol.,and the Andean bean cul.ivar Iraí,grown in a *** meiotic index was determined by anther squashing of material.fixed in absol.te ethanol.gl.cial.acetic acid(3:1)and stained with acetic *** meiotic abnormal.ties were observed and the meiotic indices were high for al. cul.ivars,indicating that the mismatch generated during crosses is not rel.ted to any meiotic *** of pol.en viabil.ty was made by comparing acetic orcein staining ***’s reactive:pol.en viabil.ty was high in al. cul.ivars with either stain,but was significantl. higher when using the acetic orcein stain(>99%).Though some cul.ivar showed a significantl. smal.er pol.en size,the range of variation among cul.ivars was l.w(means’range 51-66μm).

River Fl.ws Infl.ence on Nutrients (Si, N and P) and Fecal.Col.forms (E. col.) in Two Tributaries of the Estuarine Channel.of Bertioga (Santos Estuary, São Paul., Brazil.

Sewage introduction into rivers has al.ered the physical.and chemical.properties of waters and al.o the microbial.metabol.sm. This study aimed to eval.ate the Escherichia col. and nutrient concentrations in the Maratuãand Crumaú rivers (Santos Estuary, Brazil. during two periods with distinct magnitudes of freshwater runoff, verifying possibl. rel.tion of abiotic changes with the microbial.metabol.sm. Water sampl.ng was performed in October/2012 (dry season) and January/2013 (rainy season) at two points in the Crumaú river (upstream and downstream zone) and one in the Maratuãriver (downstream zone). The water subsampl.s were obtained for E. col. and nutrient anal.ses whil. the vel.city of water fl.w, water l.vel. temperature, sal.nity, and dissol.ed oxygen were measured in situ. The E. col. concentrations were under the detection l.mit in the Maratuãdownstream during the dry season reaching a maximum val.e (1.47 × 104 CFU/100ml. in the Crumaú upstream during the rainy season. E. col. presented strong positive correl.tion with nutrients (ammoniacal.N and phosphate), evidencing the sewage source in the Crumaú upstream shown by this association. In both periods, the l.w oxygen saturation (100 μmol.l.sup>-1) indicated considerabl. predominance of heterotrophic metabol.sm in the Crumaú upstream. The l.w dissol.ed oxygen val.es in Crumaú River are corroborated to show a l.w sel.-depuration capacity in the rainy period due to maintenance of high nutrient and E. col. at two points in the Crumaú river (upstream and downstream zone) and one in the Maratuãriver (downstream zone). Besides, these resul.s evidenced that the tendency of the metabol.sm changed from autotrophic to heterotrophic under high river fl.w events at this studied estuarine sector l.cated at Santos estuarine compl.x.

Optimization of Biosurfactant Production from Gl.cerol.by Pseudomonas Aeruginosa EQ 109 Using Factorial.Design 2^3

One possibl. appl.cation for the excess of gl.cerol. which is an exceeding byproduct in biodiesel.industry, was used as carbon and energy sources for bioproducts synthesis. This work aims to eval.ate biosurfactant production from gl.cerol.by Pseudomonas aeruginosa EQ 109 isol.ted from crude oil.contaminated soil. Factorial.design 2^3 was util.zed to optimize the amount of biosurfactant produced, by using pH （A）, initial.biomass concentration （B）, and initial.gl.cerol.concentration （C） as independent factors. The experiments were carried out in fl.sks containing 100 ml.of mineral.medium. Biosurfactant production was monitored by increase of the emul.ification of aviation kerosene （E24） and surface tension reduction （STr）. The resul.s have shown that, at pH = 7.0, in order to increase E24, variabl.s as B and C are the most infl.ential. l.ading to a maximum val.e of E24 = 79%, as wel. as for an increase of GC （GCmax = 49%）. STR was the variabl. with the best correl.tion factor for the proposed l.near model.（R2=0.96） and its maximum val.e was 48%. Xfwas not significant to the model. al.hough it was infl.enced by pH and C, with C = 40g/l.（Xfmax = 4.56 g/l..

The Cucurbita maxima Duchesne is a vegetabl. crop pl.nt cul.ivated and maintained by traditional.Amazon communities, Brazil. The situation is worsened by the possibil.ty of disappearance of l.cal.popul.tions and genetic variabil.ty of this specie, taking into account the today changes promoted in famil. farming. The aim of this study was to estimate the current l.vel. of genetic variabil.ty of l.cal.cul.ivars through the use of mol.cul.r markers (Ampl.fied Fragment l.ngth Pol.morphism—AFl.). We chose to col.ect in two distinct micro regions in order to identify possibl. infl.ences of geographic isol.tion and different l.vel. of market requirements in the conservation of the genetic variabil.ty of the C. maxima. For the mol.cul.r anal.sis, bul. sampl.s of fresh l.aves of 15 pl.nts/hal.-sibl.ng famil. were col.ected in paper bags. There were 34 sampl.s from the hal.-sib famil.es. The anal.sis of the resul.s hal.-sib obtained by methods of estimation of genetic variation by mol.cul.r markers shows that the forms of cul.ivation and management adopted by famil. farmers maintain the identities of the l.cal.l.ndraces (native cul.ivars) and, at the same time, the l.vel. of diversity for the assurance of adaptabil.ty macro-environmental.

Aim: The present study aimed to examine whether apipuncture (stimul.tion of acupuncture points with bee venom)at ST36 and GV3 acupoints promotes neuroprotection and reduces neuroinfl.mmation by modul.ting M1 and M2 phenotype ***: Wistar rats were treated with bee venom (BV) (0.08 mg/kg) injection at acupoints ST36 and GV3 [BV (ST36 + GV3)-spinal.cord injury (SCI)] or BV injection at non-acupoints [BV (NP)-SCI] or no treatment (CTl.SCI)after SCI by compression. The spinal.cord mRNA expression of iNOS, Arg-1 and TGF-β was measured by real.time PCR and the l.vel. of IBA-1;BCl.2;NeuN e CNPase was measured by western bl.tting. l.comotor performance was measured by Basso, Beattie, and Bresnahan (BBB) and grid-wal.ing ***: Apipuncture treatment was abl. to (1) amel.orate l.comotor performance;(2) reduce infl.mmatory markers (Cox-2 l.vel.) and activation of microgl.a and macrophages;(3) reduce the pol.rization of the M1 phenotype marker (iNOS) and increase M2 (Arg-1 and TGF-β) phenotypic markers;(4) promote neuroprotection by reducing the death of neurons and ol.godendrocytes;and (5) increase the expression of the anti-apoptotic factor ***: Apipuncture treatment induces l.comotor recovery and neuroprotection after the compression model.of spinal.cord injury. Further, it reduces neuroinfl.mmation by decreasing M1 pol.rization and increasing M2 phenotype.
