Objective:To determine the effect of Lentinula edodes extract on ultraviolet(UV)A and UVB-induced changes in matrix metalloproteinase(MMP)and type I procollagen expression using human immortalized HaCaT ***:Lentinula edodes ethanol extract(LEE)was obtained by extraction with 80%ethanol for 4 h at 80℃.Effect of LEE on UVinduced alteration on the expression and production of MMPs and type I procollagen in keratinocytes was investigated using ELISA,RT-PCR,and Western blotting *** determine the underlying mechanism of LEE-mediated effects,mitogen-activated protein kinase(MAPK)and activator protein 1 signaling pathways were analysed by Western blotting ***:LEE significantly inhibited the expression of MMP-1 and MMP-9 and increased the expression of type I procollagen in UVA and UVB-irradiated HaCaT *** phosphorylation levels of p38 were significantly inhibited by LEE whereas it did not affect c-Jun N-terminal kinase and extracellular signal-regulated kinase *** of p38 phosphorylation was also accompanied by downregulation of UVA and UVB-induced increase in ***:LEE effectively inhibits the expression of MMP-1 and MMP-9 and increases type I procollagen production through the p38 MAPK/c-Fos signaling pathway in UVA and UVB-irradiated HaCaT *** findings suggest that Lentinula edodes may be developed as a cosmetic material to suppress UV exposuremediated skin aging.

Hydrogen storage in Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carrier(LOHC)systems is appealing for the safe storage and distribution of excess renewable energy via existing gasoline infrastructures to *** present the eutectic mixture of biphenyl and diphenyl ether of its first use as a LOHC *** material is hydrogenated with 99%selectivity without the cleavage of C–O bond,with commercial heterogeneous catalysts,which is confirmed by nuclear magnetic spectroscopy and gas chromatography-mass *** concentration,dehydrogenation enthalpy,and thermo-neutral temperature are calculated using a density functional *** results indicate that O-atom-containing material exhibits more favorable dehydrogenation thermodynamics than that of the hydrocarbon *** H2-rich material contains6.8 wt%of gravimetric hydrogen storage capacity.A preliminary study of catalytic dehydrogenation on a continuous reactor is presented to demonstrate a reversibility of this material.

Chronic gastrointestinal symptoms and quality of life in the Korean population

AIM： To evaluate the prevalence of chronic gastroin- testinal symptoms and their impact on health-related quality of life （HRQOL） in the Korean population. METHODS： A cross-sectional survey, using a reliable and valid Rome I] based questionnaire, was per- formed on randomly selected residents, between 18 and 69 years in age. All respondents were interviewed at their homes or offices by a team of interviewers. The impact of chronic gastrointestinal symptoms on HRQOL was assessed using the Korean version of the 36-item Short-Form general health survey （SF-36）. RESULTS： Of the 1807 eligible subjects, 1417 （78.4%： male 762; female 655） were surveyed. Out of the respondents, 18.6% exhibited at least one chronic gastrointestinal symptom. The prevalence of gastro- esophageal reflux disease （GERD）, defined as heart- burn and/or acid regurgitation experienced at least weekly, was 3.5% （95% CI, 2.6-4.5）. The prevalence of uninvestigated dyspepsia, irritable bowel syndrome （IBS） and chronic constipation based on Rome Ⅱ criteria were 11.7% （95% CI, 10.1-13.5）, 2.2% （95% CI, 1.5-3.1）, and 2.6% （95% CI, 1.8-3.5） respectively. Compared with subjects without chronic gastrointesti- nal symptoms （n = 1153）, those with GERD （n = 50）, uninvestigated dyspepsia （n = 166） and IBS （n = 31） had significantly worse scores on most domains of the SF-36 scales. CONCLUSION： The prevalence of GERD, uninvesti- gated dyspepsia and IBS were 3.5%, 11.7% and 2.2% respectively, in the Korean population. The health- related quality of life was significantly impaired in subjects with GERD, uninvestigated dyspepsia and IBS in this community.

Biopathologic features and clinical significance of micrometatasis in the lymph node of early gastric cancer

AIM: To evaluate the biopathologic features and clinical significance of nodal micrometastasis(MI) in early gastric cancer(EGC).METHODS: Among 1022 EGC patients who underwent gastrectomy with lymphadenectomy of D1 + β or more from March 2001 to December 2005 at the Korean National Cancer Center, available nodal metastasis was found in 90 p T1N1 patients. Nodal metastasis was confirmed by immunohistochemistry(IHC) with cytokeratin and patients were classified into MI and macrometastasis(MA) groups based on the main tumor burden according to the 6th International Union Against Cancer/American joint Committee on Cancer staging system; the main tumor burden with a diameter of greater than 0.2 mm but no greater than 2 mm as MI, and greater than 2 mm as MA of the representative metastatic node. Proliferative and apoptotic activities of the primary tumor and the nodal metastasis were measured by IHC with Ki-67 and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase d UTP nick end labeling, respectively. Biopathologic and clinical features of the patients were analyzed and compared between MI and MA groups. Patients with recurrence were compared with those without recurrence to identify risk factors for ***: Thirty-seven patients showed MI and the other 53 patients revealed MA in the lymph node; the incidence of patients with MI and MA was 41.1% and 58.9%. The main tumor burden was 0.9 and 4.6 mm in the representative metastatic node, respectively. Japanese N2 stations were more frequently involved in MA group(20.9%) than in MI group(10.3%) butthe difference was not statistically different(P = 0.338). Proliferative and apoptotic activities of MI were decreased than those of MA(26.7% vs 40.5%, P = 0.004 and 1.0% vs 3.0%, P < 0.001, respectively). However, nodal MI in the current study showed a relatively high proliferative activity and an equivalent apoptotic activity compared to other cancers in the previously published studies. Several studies have demonstrated that the Chinese herb Gastrodia elata Blume can protect against amyloid beta-peptide （Ap）-induced cell death. To investigate the possible therapeutic effects of Gastrodia elata Blume on Alzheimer＇s disease, we established a rat model of AIzheimer＇s disease by injecting A325-35 into bilateral hippocampi. These rats were intragastrically administered 500 or 1 000 mg/kg Gastrodia elata Blume per day for 52 consecutive days. Morris water maze tests showed that Gastrodia elata Blume treatment significantly improved the spatial memory of Alzheimer＇s disease rats. Congo red staining revealed that Gastrodia elata Blume significantly reduced the number of amyloid deposits in the hippocampus of these rats. Western blot analysis showed that choline acetyltransferase expression in the medial septum and hippocampus was significantly increased by the treatment of Gastrodia elata Blume, while EIIman method showed significant decrease in the activity of acetylcholinesterase in all three regions （prefrontal cortex, medial septum and hippocampus）. These findings suggest that long-term administration of Gastrodia elata Blume has therapeutic potential for Alzheimer＇s disease.

Clinical course of ulcerative colitis patients who develop acute pancreatitis

To investigate the clinical course of ulcerative colitis (UC) patients who develop acute *** analyzed 3307 UC patients from the inflammatory bowel disease registry at Asan Medical Center from June 1989 to May 2015. The clinical course of UC patients who developed acute pancreatitis was compared with that of non-pancreatitis UC *** 51 patients who developed acute pancreatitis, 13 (0.40%) had autoimmune, 10 (0.30%) had aminosalicylate-induced, and 13 (1.73%) had thiopurine-induced pancreatitis. All 13 patients with autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP) had type 2 AIP. Two (15.4%) patients had pre-existing AIP, and three (23.1%) patients developed AIP and UC simultaneously. Compared to non-pancreatitis patients, AIP patients had UC diagnosed at a significantly younger age (median, 22.9 years vs 36.4 years; P = 0.001). AIP and aminosalicylate-induced pancreatitis patients had more extensive UC compared to non-pancreatitis patients. All patients with pancreatitis recovered uneventfully, and there were no recurrences. Biologics were used more frequently in aminosalicylate- and thiopurine-induced pancreatitis patients compared to non-pancreatitis patients [adjusted OR (95%CI), 5.16 (1.42-18.67) and 6.90 (1.83-25.98), respectively]. Biologic utilization rate was similar among AIP and non-pancreatitis patients [OR (95%CI), 0.84 (0.11-6.66)]. Colectomy rates for autoimmune, aminosalicylate-induced, and thiopurine-induced pancreatitis, and for non-pancreatitis patients were 15.4% (2/13), 20% (2/10), 15.4% (2/13), and 7.3% (239/3256), respectively; the rates were not significantly different after adjusting for baseline disease *** patients show a non-significant increase in colectomy, after adjusting for baseline disease extent.

A clothing-type wearable display can be utilized in fashion,bio-healthcare,and safety industries as well as smart textiles for the internet of things(IoTs)and wearable *** response to this trend,we demonstrate a textile display that can endure the active movements of a human *** can be applied to any kind of textile,and is durable against conditions such as rain,sweat,and *** a key technology for realizing the multi-directional wrinkle-able textile display,we fabricated a stress-lowering textile platform with an ultrathin planarization layer replicated from the flat surface of *** elastomeric strain buffer for reducing mechanical stress is also inserted into the textile ***,organic light-emitting diodes(OLEDs)with red,green and blue color,thin film transistors(TFTs)fabricated at a low temperature below 150℃,and a washable encapsulation layer blocking both gas and liquid were demonstrated on the textile platform.
