Comparison of CT and MRI for presurgical characterization of paraaortic lymph nodes in patients with pancreatico-biliary carcinoma

AIM:To determine the accuracy of computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance (MR) for presurgical characterization of paraaortic lymph nodes in patients with pancreatico-biliary carcinoma. METHODS:Two radiologists independently evaluated CT and MR imaging of 31 patients who had undergone lymphadenectomy (9 metastatic and 22 non-metastatic paraaortic nodes). Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was performed using a five point scale to compare CT with MRI. To re-define the morphologic features of metastatic nodes, we evaluated CT scans from 70 patients with 23 metastatic paraaortic nodes and 47 non-metastatic ones. The short axis diameter, ratio of the short to long axis, shape, and presence of necrosis were compared between metastatic and non-metastatic nodes by independent samples t-test and Fisher's exact test. P 5.3 mm), irregular margin, and presence of central necrosis are the suggestive morphologic features of metastatic paraaortic nodes.

We aimed to investigate the difference in efficacy of medical treatment of symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia （BPH） between normal and obese patients with BPH; obesity was determined by either body mass index （BMI） or waist circumference （WC）. In this 12-week prospective observational study, a total of 175 patients aged ≥40 years with International Prostate Symptom Scores （IPSS） ≥12 points and prostate volume≥20 ml were prospectively enrolled. The patients were divided into two groups according to BMI or WC. Patients received the doxazosin gastrointestinal therapeutic system （GITS） at a dose of 4 mg once per day for 12 weeks. The changes from baseline in the IPSS, maximal urinary flow rate （Qmax）, post-void residual volume, quality of life （QoL） scores and adverse events （AEs） were analysed. Of the 175 enrolled patients, 132 completed the study. Sixty-seven patients had BMI 〉23 kg m-2, and 43 had WC 〉90 cm. Obese patients represented by WC 〉90 cm or BMI≥ 23 kg m-2 had a significantly greater prostate volume compared with non-obese patients at baseline. Total IPSS was significantly higher in the WC 〉90 cm group compared to the WC ≤ 90 cm group. Total I PSS was positively correlated with prostate volume （P=-0.031） and WC （P=0.045）. All groups showed significant improvements in total IPSS and QoL at 12 weeks. However, the improvement of total IPSS was greater in the high-BMI and high-WC groups. The most frequent AE was dizziness （n= 13）, and it was significantly lower in the obese BPH patients. Obesity was associated with increased prostate volume and lower urinary tract symptoms. Alpha-blockers appear to be efficacious for controlling symptoms, especially in obese men.

Oxide dispersion strengthened CoCrFeMnNi high-entropy alloys(ODS-HEAs)were prepared using two different powder preparation methods classified by yttrium addition strategy to investigate the effects of in-situ and ex-situ oxide dispersoid formation on the microstructure and mechanical *** micro structural analysis was carried out by X-ray diffraction(XRD),electron backscattered diffraction(EBSD),high-resolution transmission electron microscopy(HRTEM),atom probe tomography(APT),and small-angle neutron scattering(SANS).Cryo-milled powder analysis,grain structure evolution after spark plasma sintering,dispersoid characteristics,and matrix/dispersoid interface structure analysis of the insitu and ex-situ dispersoids within the high-entropy alloy(HEA)matrix were *** in-situ dispersoid formation was dominantly observed in the Y-alloyed ODS-HEA through the construction of a coherent interface relationship with complex chemical composition,leading to an increase in the Zener pinning forces on the grain boundary ***-HEA with in-situ oxide dispersoids enhanced the formation of ultrafine-grained structures with an average diameter of 330 nm at a sintering temperature of 1173 *** study shows that the Y pre-alloying method is efficient in achieving fine coherent dispersoids with an ultra fine-grained structure,resulting in an enhancement of the tensile strength of the CoCrFeMnNi HEA.

The recent discovery of topological superconductors(TSCs)has sparked enormous *** realization of TSC requires a delicate tuning of multiple microscopic parameters,which remains a great ***,we develop a first-principles approach to quantify realistic conditions of TSC by solving self-consistently Bogoliubov-de Gennes equation based on a Wannier function construction of band structure,in presence of Rashba spin-orbit coupling,Zeeman splitting and electron-phonon *** further demonstrate the power of this method by predicting the Mn-doped GeTe(Ge_(1-x)Mn_(x)Te)monolayer—a well-known dilute magnetic semiconductor showing superconductivity under hole doping—to be a Class D TSC with Chern number of−1 and chiral Majorana edge *** constructing a first-principles phase diagram in the parameter space of temperature and Mn concentration,we propose the TSC phase can be induced at a lower-limit transition temperature of~40 mK and the Mn concentration of x~0.015%.Our approach can be generally applied to TSCs with a phonon-mediated pairing,providing useful guidance for future experiments.

Inflammasomes are multi-protein signaling complexes that trigger the activation of inflammatory caspases and the maturation of interleukin-1β. Among various inflammasome complexes, the NLRP3 inflammasome is best characterized and has been linked with various human autoinflammatory and autoimmune diseases. Thus, the NLRP3 inflammasome may be a promising target for anti-inflammatory therapies. In this review, we summarize the current understanding of the mechanisms by which the NLRP3 inflammasome is activated in the cytosol. We also describe the binding partners of NLRP3 inftammasome complexes activating or inhibiting the inflammasome assembly. Our knowledge of the mechanisms regulating NLRP3 inflammasome signaling and how these influence inflammatory responses offers further insight into potential therapeutic strategies to treat inflammatory diseases associated with dysregulation of the NLRP3 inflammasome,

Elucidation of a reaction mechanism is the most critical aspect for designing electrodes for highperformance secondary ***,we investigate the sodium insertion/extraction into an iron fluoride hydrate(FeF_(3)·0.5H_(2)O)electrode for sodium-ion batteries(SIBs).The electrode material is prepared by employing an ionic liquid 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium-tetrafluoroborate,which serves as a reaction medium and precursor for F^(-)*** crystal structure of FeF_(3)·0.5H_(2)O is observed as pyrochlore type with large open 3-D tunnels and a unit cell volume of 1129A^(3).The morphology of FeF_(3)·0.5H_(2)O is spherical shape with a mesoporous *** microstructure analysis reveals primary particle size of around 10 *** FeF_(3)·0.5H_(2)O cathode exhibits stable discharge capacities of 158,210,and 284 mA h g^(-1) in three different potential ranges of 1.5-4.5,1.2-4.5,and 1.0-4.5 V,respectively at 0.05 C *** specific capacities remained stable in over 50 cycles in all three potential ranges,while the rate capability was best in the potential range of 1.5-4.5 *** electrochemical sodium storage mechanism is studied using X-ray absorption spectroscopy,indicating higher conversion at a more discharged ***-situ M?ssbauer spectroscopy strengthens the results for reversible reduction/oxidation of *** results will be favorable to establish high-performance cathode materials with selective voltage window for SIBs.

In situ measurement of atmospheric carbon dioxide at Yanbian,China:Estimating its northeast Asian emission regions

High-precision(±0.1 ppm) and high-frequency(hourly averaged) in situ measurements of atmospheric carbon dioxide(CO2) were made for the first time from August 2005 to July 2007 at Yanbian,China using a non-dispersive Infrared(NDIR) analyzer with National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration/Earth System Research Laboratory(NOAA/ESRL) *** results of these measurements are presented in this paper and are used to investigate the regional representativeness of regional background data at Yanbian and determine the CO2 emission source regions in Northeast *** phase of the monthly variations at Yanbian reflects the special regional characteristics,which were overall in excellent agreement with other observatories in the middle-to-high latitudes in the Northern *** a hybrid receptor model to the regional emission source events in cold period(November-April),we estimated the distribution of the major CO2 emissions in the northeast *** results indicated that the strongest potential emission areas contributing to Yanbian are the Beijing & Tianjin metropolitan areas,southwestern part of Shandong Province including jinan,and *** results of this study reveal the usefulness of in situ CO2 measurements at Yanbian in establishing the scientific foundation for monitoring the large CO2 emission areas in northern China and *** monitoring of CO2 at Yanbian within a regional network should provide significant contributions to both understanding the global/regional carbon cycle and constraining "top-down" emissions in Northeast Asia.

Objective:To evaluate the antibacterial activity of Cinnamomum verum(***) from32 different essential oils against cariogenic bacteria,Streptococcus mutans(***)and Streptococcus sobrinus(***).Methods:The antibacterial activities of each essential oil were individually investigated against *** and *** essential oil of *** was selected for further evaluation against *** and *** chromatography mass spectrometry was used to determine the major constituents of *** essential *** addition,the minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration of the most effective constituent was ***:The essential oil from *** exhibited the greatest antibacterial *** chromatography mass spectrometry analysis revealed that the major components of *** essential oil were cinnamaldehyde(56.3%),cinnamyl acetate(7.1%) and bphellandrene(6.3%).The MIC of cinnamaldehyde was measured using broth dilution *** MIC of cinnamaldehyde was 0.02%(v/v) against both bacterial strains *** minimum bactericidal concentration of cinnamaldehyde against *** and *** were 0.2% and 0.1%(v/v),***:The essential oil of *** and its major component cinnamaldehyde possessed considerable in vitro antibacterial activities against cariogenic bacteria,*** and *** *** results showed that the essential oil of *** and its bioactive component,cinnamaldehyde,have potential for application as natural agents for the prevention and treatment of dental caries.
