AIM: To assess the role of computed tomography(CT) and magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) and establish imaging criteria of lymph node metastasis in early colorectal ***: One hundred and sixty patients with early colorectal cancer were evaluated for tumor location, clinical history of polypectomy, depth of tumor invasion, and lymph node metastasis. Two radiologists assessed preoperative CT and/or MRI for the primary tumor site detectability, the presence or absence of regional lymph node, and the size of the largest lymph node. Demographic, imaging, and pathologic findings were compared between the two groups of patients based on pathologic lymph node metastasis and optimal size criterion was ***: The locations of tumor were ascending, transverse, descending, sigmoid colon, and rectum. One hundred and sixty early colorectal cancers were classified into 3 groups based on the pathological depth of tumor invasion; mucosa, submucosa, and depth unavailable. A total of 20(12.5%) cancers with submucosal invasion showed lymph node metastasis. Lymph nodes were detected on CT or MRI in 53 patients. The detection rate and size of lymph nodes were significantly higher(P = 0.000, P = 0.044, respectively) in patients with pathologic nodal metastasis than in patients without nodal metastasis. Receiver operating curve analysis showed that a cut-off value of 4.1 mm is optimal with a sensitivity of 78.6% and specificity of 75%.CONCLUSION: The short diameter size criterion of≥ 4.1 mm for metastatic lymph nodes was optimal for nodal staging in early colorectal cancer.

The associations between socioeconomic status and obesity in Korean children from 1998 to 2009

Increasing interests have been shown in associations between socioeconomic status (SES) and obesity in relation to health inequality. The research objectives were 1) to examine associations between SES and child obesity (including overweight) in Korea over 10 years and 2) to explore possible underlying mechanisms of relationships between SES and obesity. This study used the nationally representative data (KNHA-NES) from 1998, 2005, to 2009. Children (10-18 year-old) were grouped by household income (low, middle-low, middle-high and high) adjusted for the number of family members. Z-scores of height, weight, and BMI for each child were calculated from measured anthropometric data using the 2007 Korean national growth charts. No statistically significant associations were found, however, changes in association patterns were noted. The lower SES group showed shorter height as well as lighter weight among Korean children. More research should be conducted to understand the effects of socioeconomic status on child obesity.

Adsorption Isotherms of Quercetin and Catechin Compounds on Quercetin-MIP

A molecular imprinted polymer（MIP） was prepared with quereetin as the template and methaerylie acid（MAA） as the functional monomer. Aeetonitrile and methanol were used as the porogen with ethylene glycol dimethaerylate （EGDMA） as the erosslinker and 2,2＇-azobis （ isobutyronitrile ）（ AIBN ） as the initiator. The experimental parameters of the equilibrium isotherms were estimated via linear and nonlinear regression analyses. The linear equadon as the functions of the adsorption concentration of the single compound in its solution and the competitive adsorption of the single compound in its mixed compounds solution was then expressed, and the adsorption equilibrium data were correlated to Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models. The mixture compounds show competitive adsorption on the specific binding sites of quereetin-MIP. Furthermore, the competitive Langmnir isotherms were applied to the mixture compounds. The adsorption concentrations of quercetin, （＋）eatechin（＋C）, and （-）epieateehin（EC） on the quercetin molecular imprinted polymer were compared. The quercetin-imprinted polymer shows extraordinarily higher adsorption ability for quercetin than for the two eateehin compounds that were also assessed.

BACKGROUND For the treatment of gastritis,rebamipide,a mucoprotective agent,and nizatidine,a gastric acid suppressant,are commonly employed *** To compare the efficacy of Mucotra®SR(rebamipide 150 mg)and Axid®(nizatidine 150 mg)combination therapy with the sole administration of Axid®in managing erosive *** A total of 260 patients diagnosed with endoscopically confirmed erosive gastritis were enrolled in this open-label,multicenter,randomized,phase 4 clinical trial,allocating them into two groups:Rebamipide/nizatidine combination twice daily vs nizatidine twice daily for 2 *** full-analysis set analysis encompassed 239 patients(rebamipide/nizatidine,n=121;nizatidine,n=118),while the per-protocol analysis included 218 patients(n=110 vs 108).Post-treatment assessments comprised primary(erosion improvement rate)and secondary(erosion and edema cure rates,erythema improvement rates,hemorrhage,and gastrointestinal symptoms)***,drug-related adverse effects were *** Primary efficacy assessment showed a statistically significant improvement rate in mucosal erosions in the combination group compared to the control group in the full-analysis set(rebamipide/nizatidine 62.0%,nizatidine 49.2%,P=0.046),with a similar trend noted in the per-protocol analysis(62.7%vs 50.0%,P=0.058).Both groups were effective in curing erosion and edema and improvement of bleeding,erythema,and gastrointestinal symptoms,whereas no inter-group differences were *** confined to the participants with gastritis symptoms,improvement of erosion was more optimal in the combination group(63.0%vs 49.5%,P=0.046).No adverse events related to the drugs were *** Rebamipide/nizatidine combination is effective in treatment of erosive gastritis.

Serum Gamma-glutamyl Transferase Concentration Within the Reference Range is Related to the Coronary Heart Disease Risk Prediction in Korean Men： Analysis of the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey （V-1, 2010 and V-2, 2011）

Background：Limited data exist on the association of serum gamma-glutamyl transferase （GGT） level within the reference range with the increased risk of coronary heart disease （CHD） prediction in *** study examined the association between serum GGT concentration within the reference range and the CHD risk prediction in Korean ***：The study employed data from Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey （V-1,2010 and V-2,2011） where a total of 1301 individuals were analyzed.A 10-year CHD risk prediction was computed using the Framingham Risk Score （FRS） modified by the National Cholesterol Education Program （NCEP） Adult Treatment Panel Ⅲ （ATP Ⅲ）.Results：Positive correlations were established between log-transformed GGT concentration and FRS （r =0.237,P 〈 0.001）.After adjustment of body mass index,the amount of alcohol intake and low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol,the odds ratio （95% confidence interval） for intermediate risk and beyond of 10-year CHD prediction （10-year risk ≥10%） with lowest quartile of participants was 1.21 （0.78-1.87） for second quartiles,1.39 （0.88-2.21） for third quartiles and 2.03 （1.23-3.34） for highest ***：Higher serum GGT within its reference range was significantly correlated with a 10-year CHD risk prediction estimation using NCEP ATP Ⅲ in Korean men.

Effective I/O Scheme Based on RTP for Multimedia Communication Systems

The prime standard for audio/video transport in IP networks is the Real-time Transport Protocol （RTP） and it is targeted at useful services for the transport of real-time multimedia data. RTP was originally designed for use in multicast conferences, using the lightweight sessions model. RTP （in particular, the data part） is so tightly coupled to the application that a number of people have developed libraries that implement RTP. However, little is known about the RTP overheads between user area and kernel area within operating systenl. Actually, unnecessary copying between user area and kernel area lowers the system efficiency. In this paper, we present the design and implementation of Enhanced Multimedia Input/Output Scheme based on LINUX. We brought focus to the crossover architecture supporting RTP. Our contributions are able to be summarized into two components： 1） Enhanced Input/Output （EIO） scheme based on LINUX improves the transmission speed by reducing the overheads generated from data copy and context switch between user area and kernel area. And this enables server-based system to transport multimedia data more efficiently. 2） Furthermore, Enhanced Input/Output scheme with RTP （EIORTP） scheme supports efficient multimedia data transmission architecture. The two schemes improve the performance of massive multimedia data transmission.

Propulsion Modeling and Analysis of a Biomimetic Swimmer

We have studied a biomimetic swimmer based on the motion of bacteria such as Escherichia coli (E. coli) theoretically andexperimentally. The swimmer has an ellipsoidal cell body propelled by a helical filament. The performance of this swimmer wasestimated by modeling the dynamics of a swimmer in viscous fluid. We applied the Resistive Force Theory (RFT) on this modelto calculate the linear swimming speed and the efficiency of the model. A parametric study on linear velocity and efficiency tooptimize the design of this swimmer was demonstrated. In order to validate the theoretical results, a biomimetic swimmer wasfabricated and an experiment setup was prepared to measure the swimming speed and thrust force in silicone oil. The experimentalresults agree well with the theoretical values predicted by RFT. In addition, we studied the flow patterns surrounding thefilament with a finite element simulation with different Reynolds number (Re) to understand the mechanism of propulsion. Thesimulation results provide information on the nature of flow patterns generated by swimming filament. Furthermore, the thrustforces from the simulation were compared with the thrust forces from theory. The simulation results are in good agreement withthe theoretical results.
