Intravoxel incoherent motion diffusion-weighted imaging for monitoring chemotherapeutic efficacy in gastric cancer

AIM: To assess intravoxel incoherent motion diffusion-weighted imaging (IVIM-DWI) for monitoring early efficacy of chemotherapy in a human gastric cancer mouse ***: IVIM-DWI was performed with 12 b-values (0-800 s/mm2) in 25 human gastric cancer-bearing nude mice at baseline (day 0), and then they were randomly divided into control and 1-, 3-, 5- and 7-d treatment groups (n = 5 per group). The control group underwent longitudinal MRI scans at days 1, 3, 5 and 7, and the treatment groups underwent subsequent MRI scans after a specified 5-fluorouracil/calcium folinate treatment. Together with tumor volumes (TV), the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) and IVIM parameters [true water molecular diffusion coefficient (D), perfusion fraction (f) and pseudo-related diffusion coefficient (D*)] were measured. The differences in those parameters from baseline to each measurement (ΔTV%, ΔADC%, ΔD%, Δf% and ΔD*%) were calculated. After image acquisition, tumor necrosis, microvessel density (MVD) and cellular apoptosis were evaluated by hematoxylin-eosin (HE), CD31 and terminal-deoxynucleotidyl transferase mediated nick end labeling (TUNEL) staining respectively, to confirm the imaging findings. Mann-Whitney test and Spearman’s correlation coefficient analysis were ***: The observed relative volume increase (ΔTV%) in the treatment group were significantly smaller than those in the control group at day 5 (ΔTVtreatment% = 19.63% ± 3.01% and ΔTVcontrol% = 83.60% ± 14.87%, P = 0.008) and day 7 (ΔTVtreatment% = 29.07% ± 10.01% and ΔTVcontrol% = 177.06% ± 63.00%, P = 0.008). Clay minerals and geochemistry of the bottom sediments in the northwestern East China Sea

Clay minerals of 34 sediments collected from the northwestern continental shelf of the East China Sea have been determined by X-ray diffraction analysis. The clay mineral distribution is mainly controlled by the sediment source and the dominant circulation pattern. The predominant clay mineral in our study area is illite comprising more than 67% of the whole clay fraction. The highest concentration of illite （〉68%） is found in the southeastern offshore parts beyond the reach of terrigenous input from the Jeju Island. It means that these illites are largely transported by the Kuroshio Current from the South China Sea （SCS）. Smectite is highly concentrated in the northwest middle part and in the outer-shelf mud patch. It seems to be due to the high supply of smectite transported from China where fine-grained sediments are discharged from modern and ancient Huanghe （Yellow） River. The relatively high abundant kaolinite is likely derived from the Changjiang （Yangtze） River via the Taiwan Warm Current. In contrast, large amounts of chlorite and high chlorite/kaolinite ratios occur in the northwestern area, reflecting the transportation by the Yellow Sea Coastal Current from the southern Yellow Sea. The discrimination diagrams clearly show that the sediments in the northwestern East China Sea are ultimately sourced from Chinese rivers, especially from the Huanghe River, whereas the sediment in the northeast part might come from the Jeju Island. The muddy sediments of the Changjiang River＇s submerged delta have much lower 87Sr/S6Sr ratios （0.716 2-0.718 0） than those of the Shandong Peninsular mud wedge （0.721 6-0.724 9）, which are supposed to be originated from the Huanghe River, suggesting the distribution pattern of 87Sr/86Sr ratios as a new tracer to discriminate the provenance of shelf sediments in the study area. A novel lightweight three-dimensional （3D） composite anode for a fast-charging] discharging Li-ion battery （LIB） was fabricated entirely using one-dimensional （1D） nanomaterials, i.e., Cu nanowires （CuNWs） and multi-walled C nanotubes （MWCNTs）. Because of the excellent electrical conductivity, high-aspect ratio structures, and large surface areas of these nanomaterials, the CuNW-MWCNT composite （CNMC） with 3D structure provides significant advantages regarding the transport pathways for both electrons and ions. As an advanced binder-free anode, a CuNW-MWCNT composite film with a controllable thickness （~ 600 prn） exhibited a considerably low sheet resistance, and internal cell resistance. Furthermore, the random CuNW network with 3D structure acting as a rigid framework not only prevented MWCNT shrinkage and expansion due to aggregation and swelling but also minimized the effect of the volume change during the charge/discharge process. Both a half cell and a full cell of LIBs with the CNMC anode exhibited high specific capacities and Coulombic efficiendes, even at a high current. More importantly, we for the first time overcame the limitation of MWCNTs as anode materials for fast-charging]discharging LIBs （both half cells and full cells） by employing CuNWs, and the resulting anode can be applied to flexible LIBs. This innovative anode structure can lead to the development of ultrafast chargeable LIBs for electric vehides.

BACKGROUND Capecitabine is used in combination with lapatinib as palliative treatment for human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-positive metastatic breast *** most frequently reported adverse events attributed to capecitabine include diarrhea,hyperbilirubinemia,and hand-foot syndrome(HFS).A number of cutaneous adverse events have been attributed to capecitabine,including Stevens-Johnson syndrome(SJS)as a rare and potentially life-threatening mucocutaneous *** report the first case involving concurrent SJS and HFS after capecitabine and lapatinib *** SUMMARY A 70-year-old woman with a history of breast cancer treatment visited our hospital for evaluation of painful skin *** weeks earlier,she had been prescribed capecitabine plus lapatinib as treatment for metastatic breast *** subsequently developed worsening erythema and bullae on her palms and soles,as well as reddish macules on her back and chest *** evaluation of the chest wall lesions revealed extensive eosinophilic epidermal necrosis and separation of the epidermis from the *** capecitabine plus lapatinib treatment was discontinued immediately and treatment was started using systemic *** treatment resolved most lesions,although the lesions on her palms and soles required Vaseline gauze dressings,which resulted in ***,we determined that the patient had concurrent SJS and *** the dermatological problems resolved,the patient ultimately died because of multiple organ *** Oral capecitabine treatment carries a risk of both HFS and also life-threatening adverse cutaneous drug reactions,such as SJS.

Dynamic enhanced computed tomography imaging findings of an inflammatory fibroid polyp with massive fibrosis in the stomach

Inflammatory fibroid polyp(IFP) is a rare benign lesion of the gastrointestinal tract. We report a case of computed tomography(CT) imaging finding of a gastric IFP with massive fibrosis. CT scans showed thickening of submucosal layer with overlying mucosal hyperenhancement in the gastric antrum. The submucosal layer showed increased enhancement on delayed phase imaging. An antrectomy with gastroduodenostomy was performed because gastric cancer was suspected, particularly signet ring cell carcinoma. The histopathological diagnosis was an IFP with massive fibrosis. The authors suggest that when the submucosal layer of the gastric wall is markedly thickened with delayed enhancement and preservation of the mucosal layer, an IFP with massive fibrosis should be considered in the differential diagnosis.

The Influence of Ceramic Surface Treatments on the Microtensile Bond Strength of Resin Cements to Y-TZP Ceramic

The effects of surface conditioning methods on the microtensile bond strength of Y-TZP ceramic were studied based on airborne particle abrasion and resin *** square-shaped（φ12 mm×5 mm high） Y-TZP ceramic were studied blocks（LAVATM,3M ESPE,USA） and flat occlusal dentin blocks were fabricated,pre-treated（airborne abrasion with 125μm Al2O3 particles,tribochemical silica coating with 110 μm Al2O3 particles modified by silica oxide）,and bonded to each other using resin cements（Panavia F 2.0,RelyX Unicem）.Thereafter the trilayer specimens were cut into microbar specimens with a bonding area of approximately 1.0±0.1 mm2 and then microtensile bond strength tests were *** Y-TZP ceramic following airborne particle abrasion with 125μm Al2O3 and silicoating,the surface roughness of Y-TZP and its surface silica content were confirmed to ***,the Y-TZP ceramic surface treatment with a tribochemical silica coating showed the highest microtensile bond strength of the phosphate monomer-based resin cement to Y-TZP ceramic（mean MPa=18.11±0.27（Panavia F 2.0）,17.45±0.39（Rely X Unicem）.In cases in which a silica coating was applied,there was no significant difference in the bonding strength depending on resin cements（P0.05）.
