Background and Importance: Cavernomas of the septum pellucidum represent an extremely rare subtype of CNS cavernous angiomas which are a rare subtype of CNS tumors. Intraventricular cavernomas of the body of the lateral ventricle are usually treated by the transcallosal approach. Clinical Presentation: We present a case of a fifty-eight year old man with a septum pellucidum cavernoma successfully treated operatively by means of the inferior parietal transcortical transventricular approach. This unusual and scarcely documented tumor was situated at the posterior third of the septum pellucidum. The patient had a good recovery with no focal deficit. Conclusion: Septum pellucidum cavernomas are extremely rare lesions. Inferior parietal transcortical approach is a safe alternative to the commonly used transcallosal approach for lesions of the posterior half of the septum pellucidum.

We recently read with interest the article by Chi et al published in the World Journal of *** this article,the authors reported a novel technique for re-establishing luminal continuity in a completely occluded colorectal anastomosis involving two endoscopes,one for radial electrical incision and the other serving as a guide ***,this technique can be applied only in selected *** the absence of a standardized guideline-based algorithm for the management of complete anastomotic obstruction,by reviewing the available literature,we provide a brief overview of relevant endoscopic techniques while underlining their importance in the management of this postoperative complication to provide clinicians with the necessary knowledge to improve their daily practice.

Basic wood density is an excellent indicator of quality,it is correlated with numerous physical,physiological and mechanical characteristics of a species and is a good descriptor of wood quality and important indicator of tree performance in community *** accurate method is thus needed to estimate wood *** standard way is to calculate the ratio of the oven-dried mass of a wood sample divided by its green volume,but wood characteristics within and between growth rings are highly variable;the density can vary in the longitudinal and the radial *** present study investigates the longitudinal and radial fl uctuations in the basic density of Abies cephalonica Loud and Pinus halepensis *** logs were cut from four diff erent trees for each species and 16 discs were formed(two discs from each log,one at the base and one at the top).Each disc was cut into cubes where their distance from the pith was measured and then sorted into 2 cm wide concentric *** results revealed a mild decreasing trend in basic density from the foot of the trunk upward for both *** pith in both species also seems to have a relatively high density,which in the immediate next growth rings decreases only to resume increasing toward the bark.

Arsenic speciation in fish from Greek coastal areas

Arsenic speciation analysis was conducted on fish samples （sardine and anchovy） collected from six areas along the Greek coastline, i.e. Artemisium Straits, Thermaikos Gulf, Amvrakikos Gulf, Strymonian Gulf, Thracian Sea, and Elefsina Gulf. Total arsenic levels ranging from 11.8 to 62.6 mg As/kg dry weight were determined. Arsenobetaine, a non-toxic form of arsenic, was found to be the main arsenic species, present at 8.6 to 58.8 mg As/kg dry weight, accounting for 67--95% of the total arsenic. Also detected in all fish samples was dimethylarsinic acid, although at considerably lower concentrations, ranging from 0.072-3.956 mg As/kg dry weight. Monomethylarsonic acid was detected at low levels in all anchovy samples, and only in sardines from one area. Finally, inorganic arsenic in the form of arsenate was detected only in fish at one area, indicating the possible effect of an environmental parameter on its presence at detectable amounts. Statistical analysis revealed the environmental variables, such as salinity, total organic carbon and nitrogen, ammonium, phosphate, total phosphorus, dissolved oxygen and pressure index, are potentially correlated to As species concentrations. Furthermore, based on factor analysis, the biological parameters, such as fish weight, lipids, protein and ash content, that are correlated to As species concentrations of fish were also identified. The interrelationship of arsenobetaine and dimethylarsinic acid concentrations within each fish species was evaluated.

BACKGROUND Hepatitis B immunoglobulin(HBIG)in combination with a potent nucleos(t)ide analog is considered the standard of care for prophylaxis against hepatitis B virus(HBV)reinfection after liver transplantation for HBV-associated *** To evaluate patients’satisfaction,preferences,and requirements for subcutaneous(SC),intramuscular(IM),and intravenous(IV)HBIG *** A self-completion,cross-sectional,online,22-question survey was conducted to examine perceptions and satisfaction with current HBIG treatment in adults receiving HBIG treatment following liver transplantation for HBV-associated disease in France,Italy,and *** HBIG products with different administration modes were evaluated using target product profile assessment and a conjoint(trade-off)*** Ninety patients were enrolled;32%,17%,and 51%were SC,IM,and IV HBIG users,*** duration of treatment was 36.2 *** HBIG had the least negative impact on emotional well-being and social life and was perceived as the most convenient,easiest to administer,least painful,and had the highest self-rating of treatment *** IM HBIG users than SC or IV HBIG users reported that administration frequency was excessive(67%,28%,and 28%,respectively).In the target product profile assessment,76%of patients were likely to use hypothetical SC *** the conjoint exercise,administration route,frequency,and duration were key drivers of treatment *** Ease,frequency,duration,and side effects of HBIG treatment administration were key drivers of treatment preferences,and SC HBIG appeared advantageous over IM and IV HBIG for administration ease,convenience,and pain.A hypothetical SC HBIG product elicited a favorable *** demographics,personal preferences,and satisfaction with HBIG treatment modalities may influence long-term treatment compliance.

Effects of seed moisture content, stratification and sowing date on the germination of Corylus avellana seeds

For Corylus avellana, pericarp permeability,seed desiccation tolerance, and the effect of warm and cold moist stratification combinations on germination and of outdoor sowing date on dormancy breaking and seedling emergence were investigated. Seeds with(intact fruit nut)and without the pericarp were subjected to an imbibition test, and water uptake was measured. After nuts had been stored for 5 months at 3–5℃, seeds and desiccated seeds were cold-stratified at 3–5 ℃(for 0, 1, 2 or 3 months),then tested for germination. Nuts were warm-stratified at 20–25℃(for 0, 1 or 2 months), then cold-stratified(for 0,1, 2 or 3 months) and tested for seed germination. The nuts were sown outdoors on three dates in the same year of their collection: 15 September(immediately after collection), 2 November, and 17 December, and emerged seedlings were counted the following spring. The pericarp was not a barrier to water uptake by the seed;however, the seeds imbibed water faster and had more mass when the pericarp was removed. Seeds tolerated desiccation;germinationpercentage was not reduced when seed moisture content was reduced to 8.71%. Germination of seeds without the pericarp(regardless of the moisture content) was the highest when the seeds were cold-stratified for 2 *** seeds with the pericarp were tested for germination,2 months of warm stratification before a 2-month cold stratification maximized seed germination. For outdoor sowing of nuts, sowing date affected percentage of seedling emergence the following spring;early autumn sowing(immediately after collection) resulted in the best emergence.

In two-phase sampling, or double sampling, from a population with size N we take one, relatively large, sample size n. From this relatively large sample we take a small sub-sample size m, which usually costs more per sample unit than the first one. In double sampling with regression estimators, the sample of the first phase n is used for the estimation of the average of an auxiliary variable X, which should be strongly related to the main variable Y (which is estimated from the sub-sample m). Sampling optimization can be achieved by minimizing cost C with fixed var Y, or by finding a minimum var Y for fixed C. In this paper we optimize sampling with use of Lagrange multipliers, either by minimizing variance of Y and having predetermined cost, or by minimizing cost and having predetermined variance of Y.
