The effect of Cuscuta chinensis extract on the rabbit penile corpus cavernosum （PCC） was evaluated in the present study. Penises obtained from healthy male New Zealand white rabbits （2.5-3.0 kg） were precontracted with phenylephrine （Phe, 10 pmol I^-1） and then treated with various concentrations of Cuscuta chinensis extract （1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 mg ml^-1）. The change in penile tension was recorded, and cyclic nucleotides in the PCC were measured by radioimmunoassay （RIA）. The interaction between Cuscuta chinensis and sildenafil was also evaluated. The result indicated that the PCC relaxation induced by Cuscuta chinensis extract was concentration-dependent. Pre-treatment with an nitric oxide synthase （NOS） inhibitor （No〉 nitro-L-arginine-methyl ester, L-NAME）, a guanylyl cyclase inhibitor （1H-[1,2,4]oxadiazolo[4,3-a]quinoxalin-l-one, ODQ）, or a protein kinase A inhibitor （KT 5720） did not completely inhibit the relaxation. Incubation of penile cavernous tissue with the Cuscuta chinensis extract significantly increased cyclic guanosine monophosphate （cGMP） and cyclic adenosine monophosphate （cAMP） in the PCC. Moreover, the Cuscuta chinensis extract significantly enhanced sildenafil-induced PCC relaxation. In conclusion, the Cuscuta chinensis extract exerts a relaxing effect on penile cavernous tissue in part by activating the NO-cGMP pathway, and it may improve erectile dysfunction （ED）, which does not completely respond to sildenafil citrate.

BACKGROUND:There is a constant and global shortage of deceased-donor organs for *** to identify areas for securing potential deceased-donor organs may improve the supply and hence benefit more patients in need of transplantation. METHODS:We looked into the disparity of the number of deceased-donor liver transplantation(DDLT)performed at our hospital on different days of the weeks from January 2000 to the end of December 2009(237 DDLTs).The number of DDLT performed on each day was compared with the other days of the week. RESULTS:It was apparent that there were fewer DDLTs on Mondays,as shown by the numbers of DDLT performed on different days of the week in an ascending order:Monday 18(7.6%),Sunday 30(12.7%),Thursday 34(14.3%),Friday 36(15.2%),Wednesday 38(16.0%),Tuesday 40(16.9%), and Saturday 41(17.3%).The difference reached statistical significance when Monday was compared with Tuesday (P=0.019),Wednesday(P=0.010),Friday(P=0.021),and Saturday(P=0.007).It was twice as unlikely a DDLT would be performed on Monday as compared with other *** a trend did not change even with an increase in the number of deceased-donor liver grafts in the last *** consent to donation was obtained from the donor family the day before DDLT,fewer consents were thus obtained on ***:These findings suggested that deceased-donor organ donation activities were less active on Sundays and could be *** further raises the concern of possible wastage of potential cases of organ donation.

In plain mortar,the water film thickness(WFT)has been found to play a key role in the fresh ***,in fiber-reinforced mortar,the role of WFT has not been investigated *** this research,basalt fibers of different lengths were added to the mortar,and the dynamic and static flowability,cohesiveness,adhesiveness,and packing density were tested to study the effects of fiber length on the packing density and WFT,and the combined effects of fiber length and WFT on the fresh *** results showed that in fiber-reinforced mortar,the WFT also plays a key role,whereas the fiber length exerts its influences through the indirect effects on the packing density and WFT and the direct effect on fiber-mortar ***,an increase in fiber length decreases the packing density and WFT,decreases the dynamic and static flowability needed for placing,increases the cohesiveness needed for avoiding segregation,and,quite unexpectedly,decreases the adhesiveness needed for rendering and spraying *** analysis yielded good correlation of the fresh properties to fiber length and WFT,and best-fit formulas for the mix design for basalt fiber-reinforced mortar were obtained.

In this paper, a recently proposed dimensional-ity reduction method called Twin Kernel Em-bedding (TKE) [10] is applied in 2-dimensional visualization of protein structure relationships. By matching the similarity measures of the input and the embedding spaces expressed by their respective kernels, TKE ensures that both local and global proximity information are preserved simultaneously. Experiments conducted on a subset of the Structural Classification Of Pro-tein (SCOP) database confirmed the effective-ness of TKE in preserving the original relation-ships among protein structures in the lower di-mensional embedding according to their simi-larities. This result is expected to benefit sub-sequent analyses of protein structures and their functions.

AIM： TO observe the effects of pre-moxibustion on apoptosis and proliferation of gastric mucosal cell in rats with stress-induced ulcer, and to analyze the relationship between those effects and the expression of heat-shock protein 70 （HSP70）. METHODS： Sixty healthy Sprague Dawley rats were randomly assigned into four groups, namely group A, B, C and D. The animal model of stress ulcer was established by water immersion and restraint stress. The rats in group A, B, and D served as the restraint, model, and non-acupoint controls, respectively, while those in group C received moxibustion at Zusanli and Uangmen points. Immunohistochemical methodology was used to detect the expression of HSP70, apoptosis index （AI, × 10^-6/μm^2） and proliferation index （PCNA-LI, × 10^-6/μm^2）. The mucosal expression of transforming growth factor α （TGF-α） was detected by radioimmunoassay. RESULTS： IVloxibustion at Zusanli and Liangmen points significantly decreased the gastric injury and the apoptosis of gastric mucosal cells, while markedly increased the mucosal expression of TGF-α and HSP70 as well as the proliferation of gastric mucosal cells. Compared with group A, ulcer index （UI）（26.8 ± 9.8 vs 12.0 ± 5.9, P 〈 0.01）, AI （9.6 ± 4.2 vs 4.4 ± 2.6, P 〈 0.05） and expression of HSP70 （9.6 ± 4.2 vs 4.4 ± 2.6, P 〈 0.05） were significantly increased, but the content of TGF-α （104.7 ± 51.2 pg/mL vs 254.0 ± 86.9 pg/mL, P 〈 0.01） and PCNA-LI （6.9 ± 4.7 vs 14.9 ± 4.6, P 〈 0.05） were significantly decreased in group B. However, ulcer index values （UI） and AI were obviously lower in group C compared to groups B and D （14.1 ± 5.4 vs 26.8 ± 9.8 and 26.2 ± 7.7, P 〈 0.01, 3.0 ± 1.6 vs 9.6 ± 4.2 and 8.2 ± 5.2, P 〈0.05, respectively）, but content of TGF-α （237.0 ± 72.6 pg/mL vs 104.7 ± 51.2 pg/mL and 154.1 ± 61.3 pg/mL, P 〈0.01） and expression of HSP70 （0.13 ± 0.03 vs 0.08 ± 0.06 and 0.06 ± 0.04, P 〈 0.05） were higher in group C. AIM： To investigate the prevalence and clinical pattern of gastrointestinal stromal tumors （GISTs） in Hong Kong Chinese, and to assess the impact of introduction of CD117 on the disease incidence. METHODS： From the database of the Department of Pathology of Yan Chai Hospital, 47 patients, with GISTs from September 1995 to December 2003 were included in this study. Ten GISTs were diagnosed before the introduction of CD117. The clinical features, tumor characteristics, and treatment were analyzed. Factors predicting tumor related death or recurrence were studied with Cox proportional hazard model. RESULTS： The patients included 26 males and 21 females, with a mean age of 66.6 years （SD 13.1, range 29-87 years）. The estimated prevalence of GISTs was 13.4-15.6 per 100 000 people, with an annual inddence of 1.68-1.96 per 100 000 people. The annual incidence of GISTs before and after the introduction of CD117 was 1.1 per 100 000 people and 2.1 per 100 000 people respectively. Stomach （34 patients, 72.3%） was the most common location for the tumor, followed by the small intestine （8 patients, 17.0%）, esophagus （2 patients, 4.3%）, omentum （2 patients, 4.3%） and colon （1 patient, 2.1%）. Thirty-one patients （66%） had complete tumor resection. Eleven out of 16 deaths （23%） were tumor-related. The median survival time was 26 too. Five-year survival rate was 61.3%. The significant factors associated with tumor-related death or recurrence were incomplete resection, tumor size 5 cm or above, invasion to the adjacent organ or presence of metastasis, CONCLUSION： The incidence of GIST in Hong Kong is comparable to that in the United States but lower than that in Finland. The true incidence of GISTs could be underestimated before the introduction of CD117. Incomplete resection, tumor size 5 cm or above, invasion to the adjacent organ or presence of metastasis are factors predicting tumor-related death or recurrence.

在很多领域的统计分析中,通常需要分析既具有层次结构又具有多维属性的复杂数据,如食品安全数据、股票数据、网络安全数据等.针对现有多维数据和层次结构的可视化方法不能满足对同时具有层次和多维两种属性数据的可视分析要求,提出了一种树图中的多维坐标MCT(multi-coordinate in treemap)技术.该技术采用基于Squarified和Strip布局算法的树图表示层次结构,用树图中节点矩形的边作为属性轴,通过属性映射、属性点连接、曲线拟合实现层次结构中多维属性的可视化.将该技术应用于全国农药残留侦测数据,实现了对全国各地区、各超市、各农产品中农药残留检出和超标情况的可视化,为领域人员提供了有效的分析工具.MCT技术也可用于其他领域的层次多属性数据的可视化.
