BACKGROUND Kawasaki disease(KD)is diagnosed based on clinical *** tests and other tests are auxiliary diagnostic *** KD is a disease caused by arterial inflammation,many patients with KD have elevated levels of inflammatory biomarkers,such as C-reactive protein(CRP),erythrocyte sedimentation rate(ESR),and serum amyloid A protein(SAA)in blood *** report our experience of a patient with KD who did not have elevated levels of inflammatory *** SUMMARY A 1-year-old boy presented with a 3-day history of *** of the six symptoms of KD were observed,except for changes in the lips and oral *** tests revealed no elevation in CRP,ESR,or SAA *** the blood test results were atypical,the patient was diagnosed with KD based on clinical symptoms and was admitted to the hospital for *** patient was administered intravenous immunoglobulin(IVIG)and *** commencing treatment,the fever persisted;therefore,additional IVIG was administered,the dosage of aspirin was increased,and ulinastatin was *** doses of IVIG were administered and the fever resolved on day 11 of KD symptoms *** tests performed during hospitalization showed normal levels of inflammatory *** examined leucine-rich alpha-2-glycoprotein 1-a protein that is elevated during the acute phase of *** protein levels did not increase during *** This case suggests the need to identify criteria and biomarkers for detecting KD conditions that do not require KD treatment.

The effect of Gd content on the microstructure and tensile properties of as-cast Mg-Sm-Zn-Zr alloy has been systematically *** the Mg-3Sm-0.5Zn-0.5Zr alloy, the intermetallic compounds with multiple morphologies are identified as Mg_(3)Sm phase. In addition to Mg_(3)RE phase, Mg_(5)RE phase originated from Gd addition is observed in Gd-modified alloys. It should be noted that the lattice parameters of all the observed intermetallic compounds are significantly reduced by Zn segregation. The segregation behavior of Zn in Mg_(3)Sm phase is inhibited to some extent by Gd addition due to the electronegativity difference between Sm/Gd and Zn elements. In addition, the increased Gd content effectively leads to much more accumulation of solute atoms in front of the liquid-solid interface during solidification, which can prominently promote nucleation in liquid region and then refine grains. The tensile yield stress of the present alloys is thus improved with increasing Gd addition. Finally, Gd-modified alloys exhibit significantly age-hardening effect, which can be mainly attributed to the high-volume fraction and high density nano-scale precipitates.

Regenerative muscles are required for swallowing and mastication, and are important for functional recovery from diseases involving oral muscular defects. Therefore, we generated three-layer hybrid sheets, similar to oral mucosal structures containing submucosal muscles, using rabbit oral mucosa epithelial, mesenchymal, and myoblastic progenitor cells, and examined the structural proteins. Each cell type was obtained from rabbit oral mucosa using enzymatic digestion. Isolated mesenchymal and myoblastic cells were multi-differentiated into osteoblasts, adipocytes, and chondrocytes or myotubes. Isolated epithelial cells were cultured on collagen gels containing isolated mesenchymal cells for 2 weeks, and these epithelial-mesenchymal cell sheets were laminated onto myoblastic cell sheets. The engineered hybrid sheets were multi-stratified in the epithelial and myoblastic layers in a time-dependent manner, expressing intermediate cytoskeletal filament proteins of epithelium and muscle. Hybrid sheets also expressed extracellular matrix basement membrane proteins. Immature cell markers for epithelial and myoblastic cells were observed continuously in hybrid sheet cultures. We established engineered three-dimensional rabbit oral mucosa hybrid sheets containing each immature cell type in vitro.

Synthesis of superheavy elements beyond oganesson is facing new challenges as new target–projectile combinations are necessary. Guidance from models is thus expected for future experiments. However, hindered fusion models are not well established and predictions in the fission barriers span few MeVs. Consequently, predictions are not reliable. Strategies to constrain both fusion hindrance and fission barriers are necessary to improve the predictive power of the models. But, there is no hope to get an accuracy better than one order of magnitude in fusion–evaporation reactions leading to superheavy elements synthesis.

Interstitial fluid movement in the brain parenchyma has been suggested to contribute to sustaining the metabolism in brain parenchyma and maintaining the function of neurons and glial *** pulsatile hydrostatic pressure gradient may be one of the driving forces of this bulk ***,osmotic pressure- related factors have not been studied until *** this prospective observational study,to elucidate the relationship between osmolality (mOsm/kg) in the serum and that in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF),we simultaneously measured the serum and CSF osmolality of 179 subjects with suspected neurological *** osmolality was 283.6 ± 6.5 mOsm/kg and CSF osmolality was 289.5 ± 6.6 mOsm/*** the specific gravity of serum and CSF is known to be 1.024–1.028 and 1.004–1.007,respectively,the estimated average of osmolarity (mOsm/L) in the serum and CSF covered exactly the same range (i.e.,290.5–291.5 mOsm/L).There was strong correlation between CSF osmolality and serum osmolality,but the difference in osmolality between serum and CSF was not correlated with serum osmolality,serum electrolyte levels,protein levels,or quotient of *** conclusion,CSF osmolarity was suggested to be equal to serum *** is not one of the driving forces of this bulk *** factors such as hydrostatic pressure gradient should be used to explain the mechanism of bulk flow in the brain *** study was approved by the Institutional Review Board of the Tohoku University Hospital (approval *** No.2015-1-257) on July 29,2015.

The long-term advantages of laparoscopic liver resection(LLR)over open liver resection(OLR)for colorectal cancer liver metastasis(CLM)have not been *** et al.(1)recently published an interesting article in the Annals of Surgery,titled“Survival Advantage of Laparoscopic Versus Open Resection for Colorectal Liver Metastases:A Meta-analysis of Individual Patient Data from Randomized Trials and Propensity-score Matched Studies.”The authors performed a meta-analysis of individual participant data from two randomized trials and thirteen propensity score-matched studies that compared long-term outcomes between patients undergoing LLR and OLR for CLM.A total of 1,275 patients who underwent LLR and 1,873 patients who underwent OLR were *** found that LLR was associated with a lower risk of death and concluded that LLR had a long-term survival benefit compared to OLR.

Modeling the potential distribution of shallow-seated landslides using the weights of evidence method and a logistic regression model:a case study of the Sabae Area, Japan

A number of statistical methods are typically used to effectively predict potential landslide *** this study two multivariate statistical analysis methods were used (weights of evidence and logistic regression) to predict the potential distribution of shallow-seated landslides in the Kamikawachi area of Sabae City,Fukui Prefecture,***,the dependent variable (shallow-seated landslides) was divided into presence and absence,and the independent variables (environmental factors such as slope and altitude) were categorized according to their ***,using the weights of evidence (WE) method,the weights of pairs comprising presence ( w+ (i)) or absence ( w?(i)),and the contrast values for each category of independent variable (evidence),were *** the method that integrated the weights of evidence method and a logistic regression model,score values were calculated for each category of independent *** on these contrast values,three models were selected to sum the score values of every gird in the study *** to a receiver operating characteristic curve analysis (ROC),model 2 yielded the best fit for predicting the potential distribution of shallow-seated landslide hazards,with 89% correctness and a 54.5% hit ratio when the occurrence probability (OP) of landslides was 70%.The model was tested using data from an area close to the study region,and showed 94% correctness and a hit ratio of 45.7% when the OP of landslides was 70%.Finally,the potential distribution of shallow-seated landslides,based on the OP,was mapped using a geographical information system.
