Effects of long-term ethanol consumption on jejunal lipase and disaccharidase activities in male and female rats

AIM: To study the effect of long-term ethanol consumption on jejunal lipase and disaccharidase (sucrase, maltase,and lactase) activities in rats and its gender difference. METHODS: Age-matched male and female Wistar rats were fed control or ethanol-containing liquid diets for 12 wk following the Lieber-DeCarli model. According to both theplasma aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) activities, 40 rats were divided into four groups as follows: male control group (MC), male ethanol group (ME), female control group (FC), and female ethanol group (FE).RESULTS: After ethanol feeding for 12 wk, the results revealed that plasma AST and ALT activities of group MEwere significantly increased by 58% and 92%, respectively,than those of group MC (P＜0.05). Similarly, plasma AST and ALT activities of group FE were also significantly increased by 61% and 188%, respectively, than those of group FC (P＜0.05). Fat accumulation was observed in both ethanol treated groups, while fatty changes were more severe in group FE than those in group ME. The induction of hepatic microsomal cytochrome P450 2E1 (CYP2E1) was obviously seen in group ME and group FE, but was not detected in group MC and group FC. Jejunal lipase activity of group ME was significantly increased by 1.25-fold than that of group MC (P＜0.05). In contrast to, sucrase, maltase, and lactase activities of group ME were significantly decreased by 63%, 62% and 67%, respectively, than those of group MC (P＜0.05). Similarly, activities of these three enzymes of group FE were also significantly decreased by 43%, 46% and 52%, respectively, than those of group FC (P＜0.05).There were no significant epithelial changes of the duodenal mucosa in any ***: Long-term ethanol consumption significantly can increase jejunal lipase and decrease jejunal disaccharidase activities in both male and female rats.

In this paper,the resonant spectrum of piezoceramic disk in the frequency range from 1 kHz to 1 MHz is studied by the impedance analysis *** are totally four vibration modes existed in the measured frequency *** first one is fundamental radial vibration mode,and then the others are three radial overtone modes with inharmonic frequency *** the increasing of temperature,the whole resonant spectrum shift to the higher frequency. The variation of fundamental series resonant frequency f with temperature is larger than that variation of fundamental parallel resonant frequency f with *** effective electromechanical coupling factor k decreased with the increasing of *** effect of temperature to the overtones mode is more obvious than that of fundamental mode.

＜正＞Considering the performance and cost,the position and wide-range speed control of a servo control system generally adopted an incremental *** so-called M method,based on averaged calculation of encoder pulses, generally results in detection lag during speed *** would be much worse when the interval between the pulses is wider than the sampling time at low motor *** a result,the detection delay time may make the speed control system *** the paper,instead of using a disturbance torque observer,a reference model via proportional-integral-derivative（PID） control is proposed to approach the instantaneous motor speed and improve the low-speed control performance.A digital signal processor（DSP）-based industrial brushless motor drive will present the experimental results,which show the improved resolution and the effectiveness of the proposed method.

AIM： To evaluate whether the effect of Gin dipeptideenriched total parenteral nutrition （TPN） on postoperative cytokine alteration depended on the disease severity of surgical patients. METHODS： Forty-eight patients with major abdominal surgery were allocated to two groups to receive isonitrogenous （0.228 g nitrogen/kg per d） and isocaloric （30 kcal/kg per d） TPN for 6 d. Control group （Cony） using conventional TPN solution received 1.5 g amino acids/kg per day, whereas the test group received 0.972 g amino acids/kg per day and 0.417 g L-alanyI-L-glutamine （Ala-GIn）/kg per day. Blood samples were collected on d 1 and d 6 postoperatively for plasma interleukin （IL）-2, IL-6, IL-8, and interferon （IFN）-γ analysis. RESULTS： Plasma IL-2 and IFN-γ were not detectable. IL-6 concentrations were significantly lower on the 6^th postoperative day in the Ala-GIn group than those in the Cony group in patients with APACHE Ⅱ≤6, whereas no difference was noted in patients with APACHE Ⅱ〉6. There was no difference in IL-8 levels between the two groups. No difference in cumulative nitrogen balance was observed on d 2-5 after the operation between the two groups （Ala-GIn -3.2±1.6 g vs Cony -6.5±2.7 g）. A significant inverse correlation was noted between plasma IL-6 levels and cumulative nitrogen balance postoperatively in the Ala-GIn group, whereas no such correlation was observed in the Conv group. CONCLUSION： TPN supplemented with Gin dipeptide had no effect on plasma IL-8 levels after surgery. However, Gin supplementation had a beneficial effect on decreasing systemic IL-6 production after surgery in patients with low admission illness severity, and lower plasma IL-6 may improve nitrogen balance in patients with abdominal surgery when Gin was administered.

In this study the relation between the generated open circuit output voltages of the piezoelectric ceramics Cymbal transducers with applied impact mechanical energy is studied. The output voltages of piezoelectric ceramics Cymbal transducers are increased with the increasing of the applied mechanical energy. Under the same impact mechanical energy, the generated open circuit output voltages of the piezoelectric ceramics Cymbal transducer is much higher than that of uncapped piezoelectric ceramics disk alone. The generated open circuit output voltages of the piezoelectric ceramics Cymbal transducer depend on the geometry parameters and the metal thickness of end-cap. The generated open circuit voltage of piezoelectric ceramics Cymbal transducer with thick metal thickness is small than that with thin metal thickness.

Viral kinetics of Enterovirus 71 in human habdomyosarcoma cells

AIM:To characterise the viral kinetics of enterovirus 71 (EV71).METHODS:In this study,human rhabdomyosarcoma (RD) cells were infected with EV71 at different multiplicity of infection (MOI).After infection,the cytopathic effect (CPE) was monitored and recorded using a phase contrast microscope associated with a CCD camera at different time points post viral infection (0,6,12,24 h post infection).Cell growth and viability were measured by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay in both EV71 infected and mock infected cells at each time ***71 replication kinet-ics in RD cells was determined by measuring the total intracellular viral RNA with real-time reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR).Also,the intracellular and extracellular virion RNA was isolated and quantified at different time points to analyze the viral package and *** expression of viral protein was determined by analyze the levels of viral structure protein VP1 with Western ***:EV71 infection induced a significant CPE as early as 6 h post infection (p.i.) in both RD cells infected with high ratio of virus (MOI 10) and low ratio of virus (MOI 1).In EV71 infected cells,the cell growth was inhibited and the number of viable cells was rapidly decreased in the later phase of ***71 virions were uncoated immediately after *** intracellular viral RNA began to increase at as early as 3 h *** the exponential increase was found between 3 h to 6 h *** both infected *** viral structure protein synthesis,results from western-blot showed that intracellular viral protein VP1 could not be detected until 6 h *** the cells infected at either MOI 1 or MOI 10;and reached the peak at 9 h *** the cells infected with EV71 at both MOI 1 and MOI ***,the viral package and secretion were also actively processed as the virus underwent rapid *** viral package kinetics was comparable for both MOI 1
