Cladogynos orientalis Zipp. extracts inhibit cell culture-derived hepatitis C virus genotype 2a replication in Huh-7 cells through NS5B inhibition

Objective: To evaluate the potential anti-hepatitis C virus (HCV) activities of Cladogynos orientalis Zipp. ex Span and to investigate the molecular mode of action. Methods: Ethanolic and water extracts from various parts of Cladogynos orientalis were examined for cytotoxicity by MTT assay. Sub-cytotoxic concentrations of the extracts were used for further determining anti-HCV activity using cell culture-derived HCV genotype 2a propagated in HepaRG cell line. Immunofluorescence assay was performed to observe the effect on viruses at the pre-entry step. Mode of action at the post-entry step was investigated for the viral RNA and protein expressions by real time RT-PCR and Western blotting assays, respectively. Results: Although Cladogynos orientalis water extracts exhibited lower cytotoxicity than ethanolic extracts, all ethanolic extracts from roots, stems, and leaves of Cladogynos orientalis exhibited higher anti-HCV activities than water extracts. The highest anti-HCV activity was observed in infected cells treated with the extracts 5 h after absorption. No extracts showed pre-viral entry effect. At the post-viral entry step, only leaf ethanolic extracts inhibited NS5B expression, while all extracts did not inhibit HCV NS3 expression. Conclusions: Cladogynos orientalis ethanolic extracts could be further studied and the major active compound needs to be identified as a promising source for anti-HCV agents.

Outcomes of mobile bearing unicompartmental knee arthroplasty in medial osteoarthritis knee with and without preoperative genu recurvatum

AIM To compare clinical outcomes of patients with and without preoperative genu recurvatum(GR) following mobile bearing unicompartmental knee arthroplasty(UKA). METHODS We prospectively followed 176 patients for at least 24 mo who had been treated by unilateral, minimally invasive, Oxford UKA. Patients with medial osteoarthritis(OA) knee and preoperative GR(Group Ⅰ) accounted for 18%(n = 32) and patients without preoperative GR(Group Ⅱ) accounted for the remaining 82%(n = 144). Knee score, pain scores, and functional scores were assessed for each patient and compared between the two groups. The incidence of postoperative GRand the postoperative hyperextension angles also were recorded and analyzed. RESULTS The pain score, knee score and functional score were not significantly different between the two groups. Similarly, the incidence of postoperative GR and the measured hyperextension angles were not significantly different between the two groups. The incidence of postoperative GR was 1/32(3.12%) in Group Ⅰ and 1/144(0.69%) in Group Ⅱ(P = 0.34). The mean postoperative hyperextension angles were 2.40°± 2.19°(range: 1°-7°) for Group Ⅰ and 1.57°± 3.51°(range: 1°-6°) for Group Ⅱ(P = 0.65).CONCLUSION Medial OA of the knee and concomitant GR is not a contraindication for the mobile bearing UKA.

A novel CMOS charge-pump circuit with current mode control 110mA at 2.7V for telecommunication systems

This paper presents a novel organization of switch capacitor charge pump circuits based on voltage doubler structures. Each voltage doubler takes a DC input and outputs a doubled DC voltage. By cascading voltage doublers the output voltage increases up to 2 times. A two-phase voltage doubler and a multiphase voltage doubler structures are discussed and design considerations are presented. A simulator working in the Q-V realm was used for simplified circuit level simulation. In order to evaluate the power delivered by a charge pump, a resistive load is attached to the output of the charge pump and an equivalent capacitance is evaluated. To avoid the short circuit during switching, a clock pair generator is used to achieve multi-phase non-overlapping clock pairs. This paper also identifies optimum loading conditions for different configurations of the charge pumps. The proposed charge-pump circuit is designed and simulated by SPICE with TSMC 0.35-μm CMOS technology and operates with a 2.7 to 3.6 V supply voltage. It has an area of 0.4 mm^2; it was designed with a frequency regulation of 1 MHz and internal current mode to reduce power consumption.

Microstructure and mechanical properties of Mg-5Li-1Al sheets prepared by accumulative roll bonding

Ultrafine-grain and high-strength Mg-SLi-1Al sheets were prepared by accumulative roll bonding （ARB） process. Evolution of microstructure and mechanical properties of ARB-processed Mg-5Li-1Al sheets was investigated. Results show that, during ARB process, the evolution of deformation mechanism oft Mg-5Li-1Al alloy is as follows： twinning deformation, shear deformation, forming macro shear zone, and finally dynamic recrystallization （DRX）. The grain refining mechanism changes from twin DRX to rotation DRX. With the increase in ARB cycles, strength of the Mg-5Li-1Al sheets is enhanced, whilst elongation varies slightly. With the increase in rolling cycles, anisotropy of mechanical properties decreases. It is conclusive that strain hardening and grain refinement dominate the strengthening mechanism of Mg-5Li-1Al alloy.

Effect of carbonate additive on the microstructure and corrosion resistance of plasma electrolytic oxidation coating on Mg-9Li-3Al alloy

Carbonate was added to the silicate system electrolyte to improve the corrosion resistance of the plasma electrolytic oxidation coating on Mg-9Li-3Al(wt%,LA93)*** influences of carbonate on the morphology,structure,and phase composition of the coating were investigated by scanning electron microscopy,energy dispersive spectrometry,X-ray diffraction,and X-ray photoelectron *** corrosion resistance of the coating was evaluated by electrochemical experiment,hydrogen evolution,and immersion *** results showed that the addition of carbonate resulted in a denser coating with increased hardness,and the corrosion-resistant Li_(2)CO_(3) phase was *** experiments showed that compared with the coating without carbonate,the corrosion potential of the carbonate coating positively shifted(24 mV),and the corrosion current density was reduced by approximately an order of *** coating with carbonate addition possessed a high corrosion resistance and long-term protection capability.

Arithmetic Reduction of Intensity or Age Models with Bathtub Failure Intensity

In this paper, the authors will study the estimation of maintenance efficiency in Arithmetic Reduction of Intensity （ARI） and Arithmetic Reduction of Age （ARA） models with a memory m. These models have been proposed by Doyen （2005）, the failure process is simply Non Homogeneous Poisson Process （NHPP）. Our models are defined by reformulation of ARI and ARA ones using bathtub failure intensity. This form is presented like a superposition of two NHPP and Homogeneous Poisson Process （HPP）. Moreover, the particularity of this model allows taking account of system state improvement in time course. The maintenance effect is characterized by the change induced on the failure intensity before and after failure during degradation period. To simplify study, the asymptotic properties of failure process are derived. Then, the asymptotic normality of several maintenance efficiency estimators can be proved in the case where the failure process without maintenance is known. Practically, the coverage rate of the asymptotic confidence intervals issued from those estimators is studied.

Influence of Voltage on the Corrosion and Wear Resistance of MicroArc Oxidation Coating on Mg-8Li-2Ca Alloy

Calcium phosphate(CaP) coatings were prepared on Mg–8Li–2Ca magnesium alloy by micro-arc oxidation(MAO) in an alkaline Na_3PO_4–Ca[C_3H_7O_6P] base solution at the different applied voltages. Scanning electron microscope and X-ray diffraction were employed to characterize the microstructure and phase composition of the coatings, respectively. The corrosion resistance of the coatings was assessed by potential dynamic polarization curves, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and hydrogen evolution experiment in simulated body fluids solution. The friction and wear properties were evaluated by friction and wear testing machine. The results demonstrate that the coating surface is porous and mainly composed of MgO, Ca_5(PO_4)_3(OH) and CaH_2P_2O_5. With the increase in voltage, the corrosion resistance and wear resistance of the MAO coating are both enhanced. The corrosion current density of the MAO coating decreases about two orders of the magnitude compared to the substrate. Additionally, wear and corrosion mechanisms are discussed.
