Clinicopathological and oncological significance of persistent prostate-specific antigen after radical prostatectomy:A systematic review and meta-analysis

Objective:To investigate the association of persistently elevated prostate-specific antigen(PSA)after radical prostatectomy(RP)with clinicopathological features and long-term oncological prognosis for the development of a potential management ***:A systematic literature search was performed using Pubmed and Web of Science up to June 2021 to identify the eligible studies focusing on understanding the impact of persistent PSA in patients who underwent RP for localized prostate ***-analyses were performed on parameters with available ***:A total of 32 RP studies were identified,of which 11 included 26719 patients with consecutive cohorts and the remaining 21 comprised 24177 patients with cohorts carrying specific *** the 11 studies with consecutive cohorts,the incidence of persistent PSA varied between 3.1%and 34.6%with a median of 11.0%.meta-analyses revealed patients with persistent PSA consistently showed unfavorable clinicopathological features and a more than 3.5-fold risk of poorer biochemical recurrence,metastasis,and prostate cancer-specific mortality prognosis independently,when compared to patients with undetectable ***,cases with persistent PSA in different specific patient cohorts with a higher risk of prostate cancer also showed a trend of worse ***:We found that the frequency of persistent PSA was about 11.0%in consecutive RP *** PSA was significantly associated with unfavorable clinicopathological characteristics and worse oncological *** with persistent PSA after RP may benefit from early salvage treatment to delay or prevent biochemical recurrence,improving oncological outcomes for these *** prospective randomized controlled trials are warranted to understand optimal systemic therapy in these patients.

Vascularization in interconnected 3D printed Ti-6Al-4V foams with hydrogel matrix for biomedical bone replacement implants

Vascularization on newly implanted metal orthopedic implants has remained a challenge in the field of tissue engineering. To address this challenge, in this research,an interconnected foam structure of Ti-6 Al-4 V was microfabricated by electron beam melting(EBm) technique. The foam in question has a density of 1.77 g cm-3 with 60% porosity and a tensile strength of 18 GPa. An extracellular matrix based hydrogel was added as an aqueous matrix to the *** mimetic stress has been closely related to many wound healing biomedical applications as it increases survival and proliferation molecular signals. To that end, increased expression of hypoxia-inducible factor-1α(Hif-1α) and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) in the aqueous hydrogel matrix was achieved by the addition of a hypoxia mimetic deferoxamine mesylate(DFm). In this study, the formation of an endothelial network was achieved in a hydrogel matrix in the presence of the before mentioned 3 D printed metal foam. Cellular viability, fluorescent microscopy and scanning electron microscopy imaging analysis demonstrate that pre-osteoblasts undergo proliferation and also attach efficiently to the foam when exposed to DFm. Human umbilical vascular endothelial cells(HUVECs) were grown in an extracellular matrix-like 3 D hydrogel and a hypoxia-like stress was achieved. This research demonstrates that pre-osteoblast cells undergo cell differentiation and increase the production of hydroxyapatite on exposure to the hypoxia mimetic molecule. This proposed approach encompasses an ideal prototype for a completely living implanted structure for future orthopedic implants.

Using a coculture system, we have studied the local action of Sertoli cells on Leydig cell function. The results show that （ⅰ） both LH and FSH have equal potency to stimulate testosterone biosynthesis by fetal and neonatal testicular cells in an age-dependent manner, the maximum stimulation is observed between D3and D5. （ⅱ） An FSH-dependent factor（s） secreted by Sertoli cells increases the basal and/or LH-stimulated Leydig cell androgen production. （ⅲ） The Sertoli cell-stimulating factor（s） is not a steroid or other small molecule, but a heat-labile peptide.

management of Geriatric Low Back Pain with Tai Chi

Introduction:Chronic low back pain(cLBP)among older adults is a complex,biopsychosocial condition that despite research efforts and innovative interventions remains a prevalent,disabling and costly *** case highlights the use of tai chi(TC)for persistent geriatric *** Presentation:A 68-year-old Caucasian female with cLBP,neuromuscular imbalances,leg weakness and fall risk was treated with a walking program(aerobic),manual therapy(mobility),lumbar stabilization(strength)and group TC class(neuromuscular function).Discussion:Research validates TC for a variety of older adult health conditions,but few studies demonstrated effectiveness for *** case outlines the use of a simplified Yang-style TC for management of persistent geriatric ***:The addition of group TC to standard treatment for cLBP resulted in improved functional outcomes,decreased pain ratings and improved leg strength,flexibility and balance as compared to standard treatment for *** the group TC class the client reported significant self-perception of recovery,and these functional and confidence gains eliminated the need for physiotherapy services for cLBP for three subsequent *** of Evidence:Therapy,level 4.

Evaluation of an erosion-sediment transport model for a hillslope using laboratory flume data

Climate change can escalate rainfall intensity and cause further increase in sediment transport in arid lands which in turn can adversely affect water quality. Hence, there is a strong need to predict the fate of sediments in order to provide measures for sound erosion control and water quality management. The presence of micro- topography on hillslopes influences processes of runoff generation and erosion, which should be taken into account to achieve more accurate modelling results. This study presents a physically based mathematical model for erosion and sediment transport coupled to one-dimensional overland flow equations that simulate rainfall-runoff generation on the rill and interrill areas of a bare hillslope. modelling effort at such a fine resolution considering the flow con- nection between Jnterrill areas and rills is rarely verified. The developed model was applied on a set of data gath- ered from an experimental setup where a 650 cm×136 cm erosion flume was pre-formed with a longitudinal rill and interrJll having a plane geometry and was equipped with a rainfall simulator that reproduces natural rainfall characteristics. The flume can be given both longitudinal and lateral slope directions. For calibration and validation, the model was applied on the experimental results obtained from the setup of the flume having 5% lateral and 10% longitudinal slope directions under rainfall intensities of 105 and 45 mm/h, respectively. Calibration showed that the model was able to produce good results based on the R2 （0.84） and NSE （0.80） values. The model performance was further tested through validation which also produced good statistics （R2=0.83, NSE=0.72）. Results in terms of the sedigraphs, cumulative mass curves and performance statistics suggest that the model can be a useful and an important step towards verifying and improving mathematical models of erosion and sediment transport.

Background:Emerging research supports the idea that exercise positively affects ***,the mechanisms linking exercise with brain health are largely *** aimed to investigate the effect of exercise on(a)blood biomarkers selected based on previous evidence(brainderived neurotrophic factor,β-hydroxybutyrate(BHB),cathepsin B(CTSB),kynurenine,fibroblast growth factor 21(FGF21),soluble vascular cell adhesion molecule-1(sVCAm-1));and(b)a panel of 92 neurology-related proteins(discovery analysis).We also investigated whether changes in these biomarkers mediate the effects of exercise on brain health(hippocampal structure and function,cognitive performance,and mental health).methods:We randomized 81 overweight/obese children(10.1±1.1 years,41%girls)into 2 groups:either 20 weeks of aerobic plus resistance exercise or *** biomarkers were assessed using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA)for kynurenine,FGF21,and CTSB;colorimetry forβ-hydroxybutyrate;and Xmap for brain-derived neurotrophic factor and soluble vascular cell adhesion ***92 neurology-related proteins were analyzed by an antibody-based proteomic ***:Our intervention had no significant effect on candidate biomarkers(all p>0.05).In the discovery analysis,a reduction in circulating macrophage scavenger receptor type-I was observed(standardized differences between groups=-0.3,p=0.001).This effect was validated using ELISA methods(standardized difference=-0.3,p=0.01).None of the biomarkers mediated the effects of exercise on brain ***:Our study does not support a chronic effect of exercise on candidate *** observed that while chronic exercise reduced the levels of macrophage scavenger receptor type-Ⅰ,it did not mediate the effects of exercise on brain *** studies should explore the implications of this novel biomarker for overall health.

Plant extracts as natural photosensitizers in photodynamic therapy:in vitro activity against human mammary adenocarcinoma mCF-7 cells

Objective: To examine three plant extracts [Lumnitzera racemosa(Combretaceae)(***), Albizia procera(Fabaceae)(***) and Cananga odorata(Annonaceae)] for their potential as source of photosensitizers in photodynamic ***: Human mammary adenocarcinoma(mCF-7) cells were treated with the plant extracts, which were irradiated with 5.53 m W and 0.553 mW broadband *** viability was assessed using mTT assay and induction of apoptosis was determined using terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-dUTP nick end labeling ***: The crude ethanolic extracts, independently, were nontoxic against cancer and non-cancer cells but when irradiated with 5.53 mW broadband light, *** and *** extracts were cytotoxic against mCF-7 with IC_(50) of 11.63 mg/mL and10.73 mg/mL, *** 0.553 mW broadband light, the IC_(50) values were higher at 17.14 mg/mL and 19.59 mg/mL, *** *** and *** extracts were found to be more cytotoxic against mCF-7 than the non-cancer cell line, human dermal ***, the cytotoxicity of the extracts was mediated by ***: Two of the plant extracts used, *** and *** were toxic and induced apoptosis to mammary cell adenocarcinoma, mCF-7 when *** extracts were also more toxic to human cancer than non-cancer cell lines.

Objective:To describe and molecularly characterize an outbreak of dengue virus(DENV)infection in Cajamarca,an Andean region in ***:A total of 359 serum samples from patients with acute febrile illness were assessed for the presence of DENV via RT-PCR,ELISA NS1,Ig m and Ig G in Cajamarca,Peru from January 2017 to June *** evaluation of the different diagnostic tests and their applicability was ***:Dengue virus was detected in 24.7%of samples by ***,serological analysis detected 30.3%positive cases via ELISA NS1 antigen,16.7%via ELISA Ig G and 9.7%via ELISA Ig *** of the cases corresponded to DENV-3(77.5%).The use of RT-PCR performed better in primary infections(Pm performed better in secondary infections(Pmbination of NS1 and Ig m performed better than the other assays in detecting primary(92.5%)and secondary infections(96.6%).The most frequent symptoms associated with fever were headaches,myalgias,and arthralgias across all ***:We report an important outbreak of dengue infection caused by DENV-3 in Cajamarca,*** findings encourage the use of NS1 antigen and Ig m *** findings demonstrate an increasing expansion of DENV-3 in Peru and highlight the importance of molecular diagnosis and serotype characterization among the clinically defined dengue cases to strengthen the Peruvian epidemiological surveillance.

Biodiversity change in heathland and its relationships with shifting local fire regimes and native species expansion

Aims Understanding the relationships among disturbance,invasion and species change is essential for effective management of many *** investigated relationships among fire history,invasion by a native tree species,Allocasuarina huegeliana,and diversity change to understand the potential drivers of plant community alteration in a complex and biodiverse *** We used plant species surveys from 1983 and 2011 to quantify spe-cies loss/gain and thence compositional ***,we surveyed population densities of the invasive species and collated long-term fire history data for each *** linear models and non-parametric models were used to assess the strength of relation-ships between the three variables of *** Findings Within the last 30 years,~11%of the plant species richness was lost from the *** an individual site level,we found only a 4%average decrease in overall plant species richness,but large species losses and gains that imply considerable compositional *** such shifts might be expected over 30 years,many of the gained species were common,potentially opportunistic species,while those lost were often locally rare woody *** addi-tion,gained species tended to be expanding their recorded range westward suggesting that they may be responding to the regional drying *** relationship between invasion density and spe-cies loss was strong over all spatial *** identified a poten-tial state change to dominance by the native invasive particularly as high densities prevented species gain at the site *** these extreme cases of high invasive density and high biodiversity loss,we argue that there may be a need to directly address the expanding native population.
