AIM To determine the clinical and dietary predictors of common carotid artery intima media thickness(CCA IMT) in a cohort of subjects with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. METHODs Participants with type 1(n = 23) and type 2 diabetes(n = 127) had mean and mean maximum CCA IMT measured using B mode ultrasound. Dietary intake was measured using a food frequency questionnaire. Clinical and dietary predictors of mean and mean maximum CCA IMT were determined using linear regression analysis adjusted for potential confounders. REsULTs The main predictors of mean and mean maximum CCA IMT were age and weight. After multivariate adjustment there were no dietary predictors of CCA IMT. However,in subjects that were not prescribed a lipid lowering medication alcohol consumption was positively associated with CCA IMT after multivariate adjustment. No difference existed in CCA IMT between subjects with type 1 or type 2 diabetes once age was adjusted for. CONCLUsION CCA IMT was predominantly predicted by age and weight in these subjects with diabetes. The finding that CCA IMT was not different between people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes warrants further investigation in a larger cohort.

AIM To determine lipid species that change in response to a change in dairy consumption. In addition, to investigate whether dairy associated lipid species are correlated with changes in measures of vascular structure and *** A 12-mo randomised controlled trial was conducted to determine the effect of increased consumption of fruit, vegetables and dairy, compared to usual diet, on measures of vascular structure and function in adults with type 1 and type 2 diabetes(n = 108). Thispaper comprises post-hoc analyses investigating the relationship between dairy intake, serum lipid species and vascular health. Central and peripheral blood pressure, carotid femoral pulse wave velocity, augmentation index, serum lipid species and dietary intake were measured at baseline and 3-mo. Common carotid artery intima media thickness was measured at baseline and *** serum lipid species [lysophosphatidylcholine(LPC) 14:0, LPC 15:0, LPC 16:1, phosphatidylcholine(PC) 29:0 PC 30:0, PC 31:0 and cholesterol ester(CE) 14:0] were associated with the change in full fat dairy consumption(rho 0.19-0.25; P some lipids was positively associated with the 3-mo change in central systolic [LPC 14:0(rho 0.30; P = 0.007), PC 30:0(rho 0.28; P = 0.010)] and diastolic blood pressure [LPC 14:0(rho 0.32; P = 0.004), LPC 15:0(rho 0.23; P = 0.04), LPC 16:1(rho 0.23; P = 0.035), PC 29:0(rho 0.28; P = 0.01), PC 30:0(rho 0.36; P = 0.001), PC 31:0(rho 0.30; P = 0.007)] and 12-mo change in common carotid artery intimal medial thickness [CE 14:0(rho 0.22; P = 0.02)]. Pulse wave velocity and augmentation index were unrelated to dairy and lipid *** An increase in dairy associated lipids appears to be associated with an increase in blood pressure and common carotid intimal medial thickness.

This paper considers the problem of constructing a direct coupling quantum observer for a closed linear quantum system. The proposed distributed observer consists of a network of quantum harmonic oscillators and it is shown that the observer network converges to a consensus in a time averaged sense in which each element of the observer estimates the specified output of the quantum plant. An example and simulations are included to illustrate the properties of the observer network.

The volatile and sensory profile of pasteurized(95℃,18 min)and sterilized(120℃,14 min)tomato soup and its changes at accelerated storage conditions(37℃and 42℃)were identified,characterized,and correlated by predictive *** led to more profound changes over storage compared to pasteurisation,showing enhanced levels of‘dark'odour,‘burnt'flavour,and‘complexity',while pasteurized soup had more pronounced‘green'odour,‘vegetables'flavour,‘harmony',and‘freshness'.Over time,‘dark'and‘burnt'significantly increased for sterilized soups,whereas‘green'decreased significantly only for sterilized soup stored at 42℃.The changes of‘dark',‘green',‘off-flavour,‘burnt',‘har mony',and‘freshness'were associated with formation of furans(furfural and 2-acetyl-5-methylfuran),and decline of unsaturated aldehydes like E-2-octenal and E,E-2,*** compounds were identified to represent potential shelf-life markers,yet more studies on their odour activity in the tomato soup matrix are necessary to understand their contribution to the sensory *** construction of partial least squares models allowed the prediction of‘green',‘off-flavour',‘burnt',and‘freshness'based on selected *** models will be important tools in the process of predicting the end of shelf life,but need to be supplemented with consumer acceptability levels.

The building of the Three Gorges Dam （Hubei （湖北） Province, China） has transformed a region with an economy based on sustainable agriculture for millennia into an entirely different environment within an exceptionally short time. This disrupts the natural biogeochemieal cycles of carbon, nutrients, and metals and possibly will affect the whole catchment including downstream ecosystems, such as wetlands, estuaries, deltas, and adjacent sea areas. starting from changes that have already been documented, this article concentrates on the possible use of a ＂FerryBox＂, which is an automated water quality measurement system on board a ship or on shore, to monitor the short and long term development of the quality of the river water in the backwater area and downstream of the dam. While there are already research programmes running to monitor the water quality of the river and the backwater area, these programs are limited to ship campaigns with sampling and laboratory analysis. The spatial and temporal resolution of such measurements is not sufficient for an overall assessment of the water quality and for prognoses in the context of anthropogenic and climate change. Therefore, a concept of applying regular automated observations by a FerryBox is presented. It is shown that such systems are very well suited to give feedback for the assessment of measures to improve the water quality.

Increasing production effeciency and lowering costs are some of the many advantages melt crystallization technology offers over the conventional methodology of tabletting. A normal tablet consists of a pure shell or a coat and a separate core constituting the pharmaceutical active ingredient. Great emphasis is put on the purity of the shell since its purpose is to solely protect and deliver the active ingredient to its target. Melt crystallization is a purification （separation） process. It is discussed here for its ability to produce coated tablets, by separating the ＂coating＂ material from the ＂to be coated＂ material coming from one molten mixture. Molten drops of lutrol-ibuprofen mixture are produced using the drop forming technique. The subsequent analysis involves proving and quantifying the phase separation （coat purity）. The mechanism of a crystallizing drop is shown as direct evidence of the ongoing process. Moreover, solidified tablet batches are analyzed for the purity of their coating by measuring the ibuprofen concentration. This optimization process is carried out through multiple stages of development and condition enhancements in order to produce the most pure tablet coating. As a result, a trial showing an almost purely coated tablet is presented here.

Emulsions and crystallization are two independent research topics which normally do not overlap although a combination of the two could be applicable to many areas. Here, the importance of emulsions in the field of fat crystallization is described. Three applications with industrial relevance were chosen for investigation： fat fractionation, the solidification of phase change materials and solid lipid nanoparticles. For fat fractionation and phase change materials, emulsification can be applied as a tool to improve the fat crystallization process, and thus the product quality of the crystallized fat. Furthermore, the use of emulsification creates new solid lipid nanoparticles in the application fields such as area of fat crystallization.

Milk quality in bulk tank milk （BTM） is measured by flow cytometry technology as total bacterial count （TBC） and somatic cell count （sCC）. To investigate sCC problems, culture or PCR can be used to identify mastitis causing bacteria, e.g., Mastit 4, a commercially available qPCR test. TBC in BTM can be investigated further using culture-based methods such as standard plate count, laboratory pasteurization count, coliform count, and spore counts. To our knowledge, no qPCR addressing the bacteria involved in TBC has been commercially introduced. The aim of this study is to evaluate a recently introduced 3-h qPCR test, TBC 4. The TBC 4 qPCR detects four target groups, Pseudomonas, streptococci, Enterobacteriacea/ Enterococcus, and Bacillus/Clostridia. These target groups relate to problems on the farm such as cooling, mastitis, environment, and silage. We will continue with new research to compare the TBC 4 qPCR test with traditional culture. For this study, BTM samples from different TBC intervals were selected based on BactoCount results found at routine payment investigation at Eurofins laboratory （Vejen, Denmark）. These samples were analyzed using TBC 4 qPCR assay within 24 h. In total, 346 BTM samples were divided into six different intervals of colony forming units （CFU）. For all four targets in each of the different intervals of CFU, the percent of positive samples, the average Ct-value, the percent of positive samples with Ct〈30 and Ct〈25 were calculated. For Pseudomonas, streptococci, and Enterobacteriacea/Enterococcus, the number of positive samples with lower Ct-values （high bacteria content） correlated with the CFU mL-1. We found Enterobacteriacea/ Enterococcus, Pseudomonas, and streptococci in high number of bacteria （Ct〈25） in 25, 19 and 56％ of samples with CFU mL-1 between 50001-100000 and 53, 44, and 39％ in samples with CFU mL-1〉100000. Computational fluid dynamics （CFD） modeling of the complex processes that occur within the burner of a gas turbine engine has become a critical step in the design process. However, due to computer limitations, it is very difficult to completely couple the fluid mechanics solver with the full combustion chemistry. Therefore, simplified chemistry models are required, and the topic of this research was to provide reduced chemistry models for CH4/O2 gas turbine flow fields to be integrated into CFD codes for the simulation of flow fields of natural gas-fueled burners. The reduction procedure for the CH4/O2 model utilized a response modeling technique wherein the full mechanism was solved over a range of temperatures, pressures, and mixture ratios to establish the response of a particular variable, namely the chemical reaction time. The conditions covered were between 1000 and 2500 K for temperature, 0.1 and 2 for equivalence ratio in air, and 0.1 and 50 atm for pressure. The kinetic time models in the form of ignition time correlations are given in Arrhenius-type formulas as functions of equivalence ratio, temperature, and pressure; or fuel-to-air ratio, temperature, and pressure. A single ignition time model was obtained for the entire range of conditions, and separate models for the low-temperature and high-temperature regions as well as for fuel-lean and rich cases were also derived. Predictions using the reduced model were verified using results from the full mechanism and empirical correlations from experiments. The models are intended for （but not limited to） use in CFD codes for flow field simulations of gas turbine combustors in which initial conditions and degree of mixedness of the fuel and air are key factors in achieving stable and robust combustion processes and acceptable emission levels.
