AIM： To determine the temporal expression and pattern of Rel/nuclear factor （NF）-κB proteins in renal tissue in polycystic kidney disease （PKD）. METHODS： The renal expression of Rel/NF-κB proteins was determined by immunohistochemistry, immunofuorescence and immunoblot analysis in lewis polycystic kidney rats （lPK, a genetic ortholog of human nephronopthsis-9） from postnatal weeks 3 to 20. At each timepoint, renal disease progression and the mRNA expression of NF-κB-dependent genes （TNFa and CCl2） were determined. NF-κB was also histologically assessed in human PKD ***： Progressive kidney enlargement in lPK rats was accompanied by increased renal cell proliferation and interstitial monocyte accumulation （peaking at weeks 3 and 10 respectively）, and progressive interstitial fibrosis （with a smooth muscle actin and Sirius Red deposition significantly increased compared to lewis kidneys from weeks 3 to 6 onwards）. Rel/NF-κB proteins （phosphorylated-p105, p65, p50, c-Rel and RelB） were expressed in cystic epithelial cells （CECs） of lPK kidneys as early as postnatal week 3 and sustained until late-stage disease at week 20. From weeks 10 to 20, nuclear p65, p50, RelB and cytoplasmic IκBa protein levels, and TNFa and CCl2 expression, were upregulated in lPK compared to lewis kidneys. NF-κB proteins were consistently expressed in CECs of human PKD. The DNA damage marker γ-H2AX was also identifed in the CECs of lPK and human polycystic kidneys. CONClUSION： Several NF-κB proteins are consistently expressed in CECs in human and experimental PKD. These data suggest that the upregulation of both the canonical and non-canonical pathways of NF-κB signaling may be a constitutive and early pathological feature of cystic renal diseases.

This paper describes an efficient and appropriate use of biomass in latvian conditions as well as analyzing the current situation, leading to recommendations for rational use of biomass and the full implementation of the latvian energy sector. In recent year＇s, latvian energy sector development analysis shows, that there is a positive tendency--an increase of local and renewable energy share of energy balance. The paper will be identified for future development opporttmities, and will undertake an analysis of renewable energy consumption forecasting in accordance with the renewable energy potential assessment, taking into account the effective use of innovative technologies and ecological aspects of the energy sector. Increasing use of biomass for district heating （and cogeneration）, also increase the efficient use ofbiomass in cost efficiency and reducing of GHG emissions. Efficient use of biomass analyzed in the paper, taking into account technical, legislative, institutional/organizational, economic, information and financial aspects. Promoting of the efficient use of biomass will increase national energy independence.

Influence of different second generation antipsychotics on the QTc interval: A pragmatic study

AIM To investigate whether differential influence on the QTc interval exists among four second generation antipsychotics(SGAs) in *** Data were drawn from a pragmatic, randomized headto-head trial of the SGAs risperidone, olanzapine, quetiapine, and ziprasidone in acute admissions patients with psychosis, and with follow-up visits at discharge or maximally 6-9 wk, 3, 6, 12 and 24 mo. Electrocardiograms were recorded on all visits. To mimic clinical shared decision-making, the patients were randomized not to a single drug, but to a sequenceof the SGAs under investigation. The first drug in the sequence defined the randomization group, but the patient and/or clinician could choose an SGA later in the sequence if prior negative experiences with the first one(s) in the sequence had occurred. The study focuses on the time of, and actual use of the SGAs under investigation, that is until treatment discontinuation or change, in order to capture the direct medication effects on the QTc interval. Secondary intention-to-treat(ITT) analyses were also performed. RESUlTS A total of 173 patients, with even distribution among the treatment groups, underwent ECG assessments. About 70% were males and 43% had never used antipsychotic drugs before the study. The mean antipsychotic doses in milligrams per day with standard deviations(SD) were 3.4(1.2) for risperidone, 13.9(4.6) for olanzapine, 325.9(185.8) for quetiapine, and 97.2(42.8) for ziprasidone treated groups. The time until discontinuation of the antipsychotic drug used did not differ in a statistically significant way among the groups(log-Rank test: P = 0.171). The maximum QTc interval recorded during follow-up was 462 ms. Based on linear mixed effects analyses, the QTc interval change per day with standard error was-0.0030(0.0280) for risperidone;-0.0099(0.0108) for olanzapine;-0.0027(0.0170) for quetiapine, and-0.0081(0.0229) for ziprasidone. There were no statistically significant differences among the groups

The reversible solid oxide cell(RSOC)is an attractive technology to mutually convert power and chemicals at elevated ***,its development has been hindered mainly due to the absence of a highly active and durable fuel ***,we report a phase-transformed CoFe-Sr_(3)Fe_(1.25)Mo_(0.75)O_(7)-δ(CoFe-SFM)fuel electrode consisting of CoFe nanoparticles and Ruddlesden-Popper-layered Sr_(3)Fe_(1.25)Mo_(0.75)O_(7)-δ(SFM)from a Sr_(2)Fe_(7/6)Mo_(0.5)Co_(1/3)O_(6)-δ(SFMCo)perovskite oxide after annealing in hydrogen and apply it to reversible CO/CO_(2)conversion in *** CoFeSFM fuel electrode shows improved catalytic activity by accelerating oxygen diffusion and surface kinetics towards the CO/CO_(2)conversion as demonstrated by the distribution of relaxation time(DRT)study and equivalent circuit model fitting ***,an electrolyte-supported single cell is evaluated in the 2:1 CO-CO_(2)atmosphere at 800℃,which shows a peak power density of 259 mW cm^(-2)for CO oxidation and a current density of-0.453 A cm^(-2)at 1.3 V for CO_(2)reduction,which correspond to 3.079 and3.155 m l min-1cm^(-2)for the CO and CO_(2)conversion rates,*** importantly,the reversible conversion is successfully demonstrated over 20 cyclic electrolysis and fuel cell switching test modes at 1.3 and 0.6 *** work provides a useful guideline for designing a fuel electrode through a surface/interface exsolution process for RSOC towards efficient CO-CO_(2)reversible conversion.

Technological Properties of Yeast Produced Surface Active Compounds in Connection with Their Application in Clean-Up Technologies

Biologically produced surfactants （SACs） can mobilize and solubilize non-aqueous phase liquids （NAPl） adsorbed onto soil constituents. The interest in microbial surfactants has increased during recent years due to their lower toxicity, higher biodegradability, selectivity and specific activity under extreme conditions than synthetic SACs. Main output of the project represents preparation of this yeast biosurfactant intended for washing of matrices contaminated by NAPl. The influence of cultivation media composition on biosurfactant production was studied and basic properties （critical micelle concentration （CMC）, minimum surface tension） of isolated biosurfactants were compared with properties of synthetic surfactant with surface tension measurement. The interracial tension of the systems containing aqueous solutions of different concentrations and non-polar substances was measured with petroleum compounds （kerosene Jet A-l）, aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons （represented by toluene and hexane）. The solution of biosurfactant Yarrowia lipolytica （YAR） in the concentration range of 0-500 mg/l reduced interracial tension by 80% in all representative systems with model contaminants; biosurfactant Candida bombicola （CAN） was less efficient. Solubilization properties were proved with toluene and hexachlorocyclohexane （HCH） isomers alpha and gamma, and effective concentration of biosurfactants was determined as 100 mg/l for toluene and HCH. SACs produced by lipophilic yeast with non-toxic and non-pathogenic status （Yarrowia lipolytica, Candida sp., etc.） seem to be very promising. The results obtained will be used for the application of biosurfactants in the clean-up technologies as agents for the mobilization of non-polar contaminants as well as for stimulation of bioremediation processes.
