Porous resorbable implants are of great interest since they may deliver bioactives or drugs, facilitate the transport of body fluids or degradation products and provide a favorable environment for cell attachment and growth. In this work we report on a method using concentrated emulsions to template interconnected solid foam materials and to produce highly porous poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (PHB) materials. Porous PHB films were cast made from water-in-oil template emulsions including Span 80 and lithium sulphate. The films were characterized by SEM-EDX and DMA. The water uptake of the films was recorded in order to determine the fraction water available pores. The results show that the addition of lithium sulphate allows a fine tuning of the film morphology with respect to porosity and interconnected porous structure. The film porosity was determined to 51% ± 3%, 52% ± 3% and 45% ± 3% for the films made with 0%, 2.9% and 14.3% lithium sulphate in the template emulsion, respectively. The fraction water available pores was significantly lower, 11% ±3%, 38% ±12% and 48% ± 7% for films with 0%, 2.9% and 14.3% litium sulphate respectively. Differences in fraction water available pores and total porosity for the films reflects the film morphology and differences in pore interconnection.

Background:Despite the United States(US)having an abundant supply of COVID-19 vaccines,vaccination rates lag behind other high-income countries,suggesting that vaccine hesitancy and attitudes play a greater role in public health measures than pure supply and *** the acknowledgment that vaccination attitudes and status may or may not be correlated,this study examined COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy among vaccinated US adults by asking:(1)What is the prevalence of COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy among the vaccinated?(2)Does COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy vary across sociodemographic characteristics?(3)Does COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy vary by healthcare access and influenza vaccination over the past 5 years?Methods:Data were collected through an online survey of 2022 US adults with a final analytic sample of 1383 vaccinated ***:Overall,48.8%of vaccinated adults reported some level of hesitancy,while a slight majority reported they were“not at all hesitant”.Younger respondents,women,and Black and American Indian or Alaska Native participants had greater adjusted odds of being more hesitant towards receiving the COVID-19 ***-dents who had a primary care physician had greater adjusted odds than those who did not have a primary care physician of being more hesitant towards receiving the COVID-19 ***:This is the first population-based national sample study examining COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy among vaccinated individuals from subgroups of distinctive backgrounds in order to inform targeted strategies for reducing vaccine *** can assist in efforts to increase vaccination rates and also decrease vaccine hesitancy at the national level.

Effects of exercise on leukocytosis and blood hemostasis in 800 healthy young females and males

AIM: To investigate the effects of exercise on healthy individuals of both genders. METHODS: This study lasted 6 years and involved about 800 healthy people. Individuals were divided into females and males and further sub-divided into two groups; in the first group individuals run(or skied in the winter time) and then rested for 3 h, whereas individuals in the second group intensely cycled for 5 min. The status of health was determined by measuring the sedimentation rate and the intensity of exercises by measuring the heart rate. Blood samples were collected before and after exercise. RESULTS: We observed that in the first group a significant increase of the total white blood cells, segmented neutrophils, band neutrophils, eosinophils and to a lesser extent lymphocytes but not monocytes in the blood circulation. However, all cell types were increased in the circulation after 5 min intense exercise. No differences in the pattern of cell increase were observed among the genders. Activated partial thromboplastin time(APTT) and D-dimer were also measured in the blood of individuals who cycled intensely for 5 min to determine the coagulation and fibrinolytic activities in the blood. APTT is reduced and D-dimer values significantly increased after intense exercise. However, APTT was statistically lower in males than females, whereas no differences in the D-dimer values were observed among the genders. CONCLUSION: Our results indicate that exercise whether leisure or strenuous affects leukocytosis and hemostasis in both genders. A major advantage of this study is the high numbers of individuals involved and the inclusion of both females and males values.

Satellites have provided high-resolution(<100 m)water color(i.e.,remote sensing reflectance)and thermal emission imagery of aquatic environments since the early 1980s;however,global operational water quality products based on these data are not readily available(e.g.,temperature,chlorophyll-a,turbidity,and suspended particle matter).Currently,because of the postprocessing required,only users with expressive experience can exploit these data,limiting their ***,we provide paths(recipes)for the nonspecialist to access and derive water quality products,along with examples of applications,from sensors on board Landsat-5,Landsat-7,Landsat-8,Landsat-9,Sentinel-2A,and *** emphasize that the only assured metric for success in product derivation and the assigning of uncertainties to them is via validation with in situ *** hope that this contribution will motivate nonspecialists to use publicly available high-resolution satellite data to study new processes and monitor a variety of novel environments that have received little attention to date.

Background: Our hypothesis was that only established and persistent injuries and complications after positioning in the Trendelenburg position are reported and detected, despite that patients may have great discomfort after surgery. Aim: The aim of this study was to explore patient reported discomfort, pain and functional decrease two hours, 24 hours and four weeks after laparoscopic resection of the colon in the prone lithotomy position, as well as factors potentially associated with reported pain. Methods: A longitudinal self-report questionnaire study was conducted at three time-points. Results: A total of 37 patients responded. Findings show that patients mostly reported pain in relation to the surgical area, but also related to other areas that may be linked to positioning. Conclusion: Even though patients reported mild pain, several of the patients still reported this, four weeks postoperatively, as well as some functional decrease. Our findings support the need to focus on preventing positioning injuries.

背景右旋美托咪啶是一种仪，受体激动剂，目前正在研究其是否适合用于小儿麻醉。本研究旨在比较右旋美托咪啶一咪达唑仑与丙泊酚对于七氟烷麻醉儿童磁共振扫描（M对）中的药效学反应差异。方法40例1～10岁，ASA1或2级，拟行MRI检查的患儿，随机分为2组，两组均用七氟烷诱导，一组以右旋美托咪啶．咪达唑仑维持麻醉，另一组以丙泊酚维持麻醉。右旋美托咪啶组先静注负荷量（1μg／kg）后持续泵入（0．5μg·kg^-1·h^-1）。开始泵注后静注咪达唑仑（0．1mg／kg）。丙泊酚持续泵入（250—300μg·kg^-1·min^-1）。由一名不了解麻醉方案的护士来记录复苏时间及血流动力学变化。结果右旋美托咪啶组手术后完全恢复及出院时间明显长于（约15分钟）丙泊酚组。与丙泊酚组比较，右旋美托咪啶组心率减慢，收缩压增高。两组呼吸系统指标相近。恢复过程中，两组血流动力学反应相近。在麻醉及手术后恢复过程中，心肺指标均在同年龄段儿童的正常范围内。无麻醉意外发生。结论在MRＩ检查中，右旋美托咪啶．咪达唑仑提供足够的麻醉深度，但-I丙泊酚相比麻醉复苏时间稍长。与丙泊酚组比较，使用右旋美托咪啶的患儿心率慢、收缩压高。两种方式的呼吸系统指标相近。
