Background: Despite considerable advancements in identifying factors contributing to the development of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC), the pathogenesis of HCC remains unclear. In many cases, HCC is a consequence of prolonged liver fibrosis, resulting in the formation of an intricate premalignant microenvironment. The accumulation of extracellular matrix(ECM) is a hallmark of premalignant microenvironment. Given the critical role of different matrix components in regulating cell phenotype and function, this study aimed to elucidate the interplay between the fibrotic matrix and malignant features in HCC. Methods: Liver tissues from both control(normal) and carbon tetrachloride(CCl4)-induced fibrotic rats were decellularized using sodium dodecyl sulfate(SDS) and Triton X-100. The resulting hydrogel from decellularized ECM was processed into micro-particles via the water-in-oil emulsion method. Microparticles were subsequently incorporated into three-dimensional liver biomimetic micro-tissues(MTs) comprising Huh-7 cells, human umbilical vein endothelial cells(HUVECs), and LX-2 cells. The MTs were evaluated using the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-5-(3-carboxymethoxyphenyl)-2-(4-sulfophenyl)-2H-tetrazolium(MTS) assay at day 11, immunofluorescence staining, immunoblotting, and spheroid migration assay at day 14 after co-culture. Results: Fibrotic matrix from CCl4-treated rat livers significantly enhanced the growth rate of the MTs and their expression of CCND1 as compared to the normal one. Fibrotic matrix, also induced the expression of epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition(EMT)-associated genes such as TWIST1, ACTA2, MMP9, CDH2, and VIMENTIN in the MTs as compared to the normal matrix. Conversely, the expression of CDH1 and hepatic maturation genes HNF4A, ALB, CYP3A4 was decreased in the MTs when the fibrotic matrix was used. A ZnAl2O4@SiO2 nanocomposite was prepared from metal nitrates and tetraethyl orthosilicate by the sol-gel process,and characterized by X-ray diffraction,Fourier transform infrared,transmission electron microscopy,and N2 adsorption-desorption *** nanocomposite was tested as a heterogeneous catalyst for the acetylation of alcohols,phenols,and amines under solvent-free *** optimized conditions,efficient acetylation of these substrates with acetic anhydride over the ZnAl2O4@SiO2 nanocomposite was *** of anilines and primary aliphatic amines proceeded rapidly at room temperature,while the reaction time was longer for the acetylation of alcohols and phenols,showing that an amine NH2 group can be selectively acetylated in the presence of alcoholic or phenolic OH *** catalyst can be reused without obvious loss of catalytic *** catalytic activity of the ZnAl2O4@SiO2 nanocomposite was higher than that of pure *** method gives high yields,and is clean,cost effective,compatible with substrates having other functional groups and it is suitable for practical organic synthesis.

High early strength(HES)concrete pavements are commonly opened to traffic within the first 24 h after construction,making early-opening decisions critical for pavement quality and traffic ***,most state departments of transportation rely on compressive strength testing for early-opening decision ***,there laboratory tests are labor intensive,costly and not always representative of field strength *** this study,non-destructive testing(maturity and ultrasonic tomography)was explored for faster and reliable in-situ strength *** experimental section constructed using HES concrete was routinely monitored using compressive testing,maturity,and ultrasonic tomography in the first 24 h after *** shear wave velocity,measured using ultrasonic tomography,was able to capture the strength-gain variability within a single slab and between different slabs due to the ability to monitor several locations in a short period of *** results were consistently conservative in the first 24 h of *** show that both maturity testing and ultrasonic tomography are able to replace or add to conventional strength testing for HES concrete pavements to facilitate making the opening decision within the first 24 *** tomography proved more beneficial as a result of the device's portability,increased speed of testing,and accurate estimations of HES concrete strength for the entire pavement length.

Optimal Pitch Size of a Biphilic Surface for Boiling Heat Transfer at Subatmospheric Pressures

To date,using biphilic surfaces is one of the most promising methods for enhancing heat transfer and critical heat flux during boiling ***,most of studies on the effect of biphilic surfaces on boiling perfor-mance have been carried out under atmospheric pressure *** this context,the issues of heat transfer enhancement and stabilization of the boiling process at subatmospheric pressures are particularly critical due to the interesting characteristics of boiling heat transfer and bubble dynamics at subatmospheric pressures and their practical significance including aerospace *** paper investigates the effect of the pitch size between hydrophobic spots on a biphilic surface on heat transfer and bubble dynamics during boiling at subatmospheric pressures(from 11.2 kPa up to atmospheric pressure).The data analysis using infrared thermography demonstrated that the maximum heat transfer rate was achieved on a surface with a uniform pitch size(6 mm)at all *** this case,the heat transfer enhancement,compared a bare surface,reached 3.4 *** analysis of the departure diameters of bubbles based on high-speed visualization indicated that the optimal configuration of the biphilic surface corresponds to the pitch size equal to the bubble departure *** high-speed visualization also demonstrated that an early transition to film boiling was evident for configurations with a very high density of hydrophobic spots(pitch size of 2 mm).

Anaerobic digestion(AD)as a waste management method has the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while pro-ducing renewable energy,making it a viable option for managing the organic fraction of municipal solid waste(OFMSW).OFMSW characteristics can vary depending on factors such as waste source,composition and separation *** charac-teristics of OFMSW are critical for analyzing and monitoring the AD process to optimize biogas *** this study,the waste composition and physicochemical characteristics of the mechanically separated OFMSW(ms-OFMSW)were determined at a full-scale AD plant in *** ms-OFMSW samples were collected monthly after mechanical separation and were subsequently sent to the anaerobic *** composition and physicochemical characteristics of the samples were determined by manual *** results showed that the majority of the ms-OFMSW(76.45%±1.71%)was organic,while 8.99%±1.56%was recyclable and 14.56%±1.69%was *** of environmental benefits for the recyclable materials was determined using a free online tool provided by Environmental Protection ***(399.7 GJ)and plas-tics(403.7 GJ)both saved nearly the same amount of energy while metals saved the most water(421.8 m3),with the greatest positive *** benefits ranged from 3 tons to 40 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent for each waste *** findings suggest that efficient pre-separation units can improve the anaerobic digestibility of OFMSW,while also providing greater environmental benefits by preventing recyclable waste from the anaerobic *** addition to encouraging source separation applications,this study demonstrates the need for improved technologies to separate OFMSW from mixed MSW.
