Health and safety perspectives of graphene in wearables and hybrid materials

The growing demand for smart wearables, coupled with the omnipresence of graphene due to its array of outstanding thermal, electrical, and mechanical properties, have driven the industry-led initiatives to develop lightweight, smart, and robust graphene-based wearable technologies. The substantial research and the increase in technology readiness levels (TRLs) of graphene-based technologies have led to the adoption of graphene in many industries. Graphene-based wearables are one such technology that involves closer interaction of graphene by the end-user. despite this, understanding the toxicological risks associated with using graphene-based wearables is still in the fundamental stage. Herein, graphene-based wearables and industrial-scale fabrication techniques for the development of graphene-based wearables are reviewed. The main goal of the review is to initially evaluate the likelihood of user exposure to graphene from the wearable device and the potential health effects. The subsequent health risks based on graphene's physicochemical characteristics are also discussed. A framework to elucidate the risk is presented in terms of crucial exposure routes, possible graphene interactions, recent exposure assessments, detection removal techniques from the human body, and risk management protocols. It is hoped that this review may aid towards establishing a reasonable practice concerning the safe integration of graphene materials into wearables and facilitate their commercialization.

Intermetallic Getters Reactants for Vacuum Applications

The present work continues a series of publications devoted to the study of the sorption properties of reactive alloys based on IIA metals and the development of advanced getter materials for gas and vacuum technologies. This publication attempts to answer the current challenges in the field of gas sorption associated with the emergence of new vacuum products such as vacuum insulated glasses, electronic systems, cryogenic devices, etc. An analysis of the problems that arise here, as well as the results of sorption measurements, carried out with the participation of intermetallic phases of the composition CaLi2 and Ca0.33Li0.48Mg0.19, show that the best getter support for these new hermetically sealed products can be provided by intermetallic compounds formed in systems Li-IIA metals. Intermetallic phases of this family are easy to manufacture and demonstrate outstanding service characteristics: their specific sorption capacity is recorded high, exceeding traditional gas sorbents in this respect by at least an order of magnitude;the kinetics of gas capturing is set at the stage of alloy production, i.e., is adjustable;the temporary resistance of these phases to atmospheric gases allows to install the getter at its workplace in air, without further thermal activation. The sorption superiority of reactive intermetallics is explained by their special sorption mechanism: the gas/metal interaction is formed here as a combination of two processes, continuous growth of reaction products on a metallic surface and corrosion decay of brittle intermetallic phase under mechanical forces, which feeds the chemical reaction with a fresh surface. The advantages of sorption processes of this new type are undoubted and significant: compared with the conventional sorbents, an intermetallic getter reactant solves two important problems;it reduces production costs and increases the sorption yield.

In the given research,the molecular structures of two new compounds,4-((E)-3-(dimethylamino)styryl)-6-((E)-4-(dimethylamino)styryl)pyrimidine-2-amine(PM-1)and N-(4-((E)-3-(dimethylamino)styryl)-6-((E)-4-(dimethylamino)styryl)pyrimidine-2-yl)-4,6-dichloro 1,3,5-1,3,5-triazin-2-amine(PM-2),have been studied with the use of density functional theory(DFT/B3LYP/MidiX)in dimethylformamide(DMF)for the first *** electronic spectra of the new compounds in a DMF solvent were carried out by temporally dependent density functional theory(TD-DFT)*** computed absorption spectral data of the title compounds are in good agreement with the experimental data,thus allowing an assignment of the UV/Vis *** equilibrium geometry,the HOMO and LUMO molecular orbitals,excitation energies,oscillator strengths and Natural Bond Orbital(NBO)analysis for the molecules have also been calculated and ***-IR spectra of the title molecules are recorded and *** electron location function(ELF),localized orbital locator(LOL)and quantum theory of atoms in molecules(QTAIM)analyses were also carried *** the basis of polyvinyl alcohol(PVA)and synthesized molecules,polarizer for UV/Vis region of the spectrum has been developed.

采用电喷雾萃取电离-串联质谱(EESI-MS/MS)技术,在优化条件下建立了鲜竹沥中二苯并[a,h]蒽(DBA)的快速检测方法。在正离子检测模式下,对离子传输管温度、喷雾电压、电喷雾溶剂流速、样品流速进行优化。以硝酸银的甲醇溶液为电喷雾溶剂,诱导DBA和Ag+形成[DBA+Ag]+、[2DBA+Ag]+等特征离子,再结合碰撞诱导解离技术,最终实现了鲜竹沥中DBA的快速定性定量检测。实验结果表明,DBA在0.1~100μg/L质量浓度范围内线性良好,线性相关系数(r2)为0.998 0,方法检出限(LOD)为0.054μg/L,定量下限(LOQ)为0.179μg/L。该方法对鲜竹沥中DBA的加标回收率为81.5%~87.1%,相对标准偏差为1.9%~3.9%。所建方法具有无需复杂样品预处理、准确度高、可直接快速检测等优点,适用于鲜竹沥中DBA的快速筛查与直接分析,同时也为其他PAHs的检测提供了技术手段。

Atmospheric and Coupled Model Intercomparison in Terms of Amplitude—Phase Characteristics of Surface Air Temperature Annual Cycle

A model intercomparison in terms of surface air temperature annual cycle amplitude-phase characteristics (SAT AC APC) is performed. The models included in the intercomparison belong to two groups: five atmospheric models with prescribed sea surface temperature and sea ice cover and four coupled models forced by the atmospheric abundances of anthropogenic constituents (in total six coupled model simulations). Over land, the models, simulating higher than observed time averaged SAT, also tend to simulate smaller than observed amplitude of its annual and semiannual harmonics and (outside the Tropics) later-than-observed spring and autumn moments. The models with larger (smaller) time averaged amplitudes of annual and semiannual harmonics also tend to simulate larger (smaller) interannual standard deviations. Over the oceans, the coupled models with larger interannual standard deviations of annual mean SAT tend to simulate larger interannual standard deviations of both annual and semiannual SAT harmonics amplitudes. Most model errors are located in the belts 60°–70°N and 60°–70°S and over Antarctica. These errors are larger for those coupled models which do not employ dynamical modules for sea ice. No systematic differences are found in the simulated time averaged fields of the surface air temperature annual cycle characteristics for atmospheric models on one hand and for the coupled models on the other. But the coupled models generally simulate interannual variability of SAT AC APC better than the atmospheric models (which tend to underestimate it). For the coupled models, the results are not very sensitive to the choice of the particular scenario of anthropogenic forcing. There is a strong linear positive relationship between the model simulated time averaged semiannual SAT harmonics amplitude and interannual standard deviation of annual mean SAT. Using density functional calculations to elucidate atomic ordering of Pd-Rh nanoparticles at sizes relevant for catalytic applications

Pd-Rh nanoparticles are known to easily undergo surface restructuring in reactive environment. This study quantifies, with the help of density functional(DFT) calculations and a novel topological approach, atomic ordering and surface segregation effects in Pd-Rh particles with compositions 1:3, 1:1 and 3:1 containing up to 201 atoms(ca. 1.7 nm). The obtained data are used to reliably optimise energetically preferred atomic orderings in inaccessible by DFT Pd-Rh particles containing thousands of atoms and exhibiting sizes exceeding 5 nm, which are typical for catalytic metal particles. It is outlined, how segregation effects on the surface arrangement of Pd-Rh nanoalloy catalysts induced by adsorbates can be evaluated in a simple way within the present modelling setup.
