According to the 2017 Global Financial Inclusion(Global Findex)database,the average penetration rate of mobile money accounts in East Africa is higher than that of the *** study attempts to understand the factors driving the adoption and the use of mobile financial services in the WAEMU compared to East *** achieve this,micro-level data from the 2017 Global Findex database are used to perform probit and multinomial logit *** findings reveal that the same determinants influence the adoption and use of mobile money accounts across the populations of both groups of countries,specifically those related to the least vulnerable social categories(i.e.,males,older,more educated,richer and part of the workforce).Therefore,in comparison to East Africa,the delay in the penetration of mobile money accounts observed in the WAEMU may be attributed to insufficient policies for increasing the awareness of the benefits of mobile financial *** study recommends that governments in WAEMU countries promote the use of mobile money accounts among the working-age population(adults aged between 25 and 64)through the improvement of individual income level,and the introduction of incentives into the education system to encourage their population to attain higher levels of education.

Evaluation of the Quality of Household Waste Leachate Treated by Settling Ponds at the Ouagadougou Waste Treatment and Valorization Center

In African cities, today’s patterns of consumption are increasingly generating solid and liquid waste. This waste requires adequate management as it poses significant risks to public health and the environment. To meet the challenge in Ouagadougou, a waste treatment and recycling center has been implemented. The leachates from household refuse evacuated in this center are treated by two series settling ponds whose performances have been evaluated throughout the present study. For this purpose, samples were taken from the basins and analyzed weekly for two months. On these samples, the physical parameters (pH, temperature, conductivity), organic pollution indicators (BOD5, COD, SS), nitrogen pollution (nitrate, nitrite) and phosphorus pollution (ortho-phosphates) were evaluated according to AFNOR standards. The average of suspended-matter contents above 13,000 mg/L and this particulate pollution abatement recorded is 2.04%, whereas the Chemical Oxygen Demand reached respective maximum values of 660 and 480 mg/L for both basins. Nutrients such as nitrates were well eliminated whereas orthophosphates are released. PH values varied between 8.62 and 9.51, while electrical conductivity values varied between 482 and 625 μS/cm. The Fecal Coliforms reached maximum concentrations of 10,000 and 12,800 UFC/100mL.

UV/Vis Characterization and Fate of Organic Amendment Fractions in a Dune Soil in Dakar, Senegal

The application of organic amendments on soils poor in organic matter(OM) can improve long-term soil fertility, but may also enhance the mineralization of native soil organic matter. Three organic amendments, compost, sewage sludge and horse manure, used by urban market gardeners in Dakar, Senegal were analyzed for their OM maturity. Their fate was evaluated in a 45-d agronomic trial in a sandy Arenosol with lettuce. In each case, water-extractable organic matter(WEOM) and humic-like substances(HLS)were isolated from raw amendments and amended soils, and characterized using ultraviolet-visible(UV/Vis) spectroscopy. Results highlighted the general more aromatic character of HLS and WEOM fractions extracted from compost compared to the other two amendments. When applied to soils, however, these differences were not clearly observed. The aromaticity and humification degree of the labile fraction(WEOM) increased with depth in the first 30 cm for all amendments. This indicated the high lixiviation rates that fresh OM underwent in the studied sandy soil. Finally, a statistical analysis of the results was able to discriminate between surface and deeper horizons and between amended- and non-amended soil samples. Spectroscopic indices showed indeed strong increase/decrease with depth linked with the mineralization/humification processes that the fresh OM from amendments underwent during the 45 d of the agronomic trial. This study highlights the potential of spectroscopic techniques to study agricultural amendment organic matter fractions and their fate in soils.

Approximations of Quasi-Stationary Distributions of the Stochastic <i>SVIR</i>Model for the Measles

In this paper, we analyze the quasi-stationary distribution of the stochastic SVIR (Susceptible, Vaccinated, Infected, Recovered) model for the measles. The quasi-stationary distributions, as discussed by Danoch and Seneta, have been used in biology to describe the steady state behaviour of population models which exhibit discernible stationarity before to become extinct. The stochastic SVIR model is a stochastic SIR (Susceptible, Infected, Recovered) model with vaccination and recruitment where the disease-free equilibrium is reached, regardless of the magnitude of the basic reproduction number. But the mean time until the absorption (the disease-free) can be very long. If we assume the effective reproduction number Rp β and δ stands respectively, for the disease transmission coefficient and the natural rate.

Epidemiological Clinical Aspects and Medical Management of Sexual Assault in the Region of Ségou in Mali

Introduction: Sexual assault is an act of a sexual nature perpetrated on another person without their consent. Goal: To describe the epidemio-clinical aspects and the medical management of sexual assault in the Segou region. Methodology: This was a retro-prospective descriptive study from September 2010 to September 2018 on the alleged female victims of sexual assault registered in the Gynecology and Obstetrics departments of the hospital and the sanitary quarters of Ségou. Results: We recorded 107 cases of sexual assault out of 47,729 gynecological consultations, representing a hospital prevalence of 0.22%. The victims were between 10 and 15 years old in 48.59% of the cases. Students were the most represented with 53.27% (57/107) of cases. Genito-genital contact was recorded in 90.65% (97/107) of cases. Vulvo-perineal lesions were present in 44.86% (48/107) of survivors. Hymenial deflowering was the most frequent traumatic genital lesion accounting for 43.70% (21/48) of old cases and 27.00% (13/48) of recent cases. Sexual assault was committed by a single individual in 60.75% (65/107) of cases and by a friend of the victim in 21.5% (23/107) of cases. The survivors had consulted within 24 hours of the sexual assault in 53.27% (57/107) of the cases, the treatment was medical in 68.22% (73/107) and medical-surgical in 4.7% (5/107), post-exposure prophylaxis to the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) was performed in only 26.16% (28/107) of survivors. Conclusion: Sexual assault remains a concern although its frequency is low. This scourge mainly affects children and adolescents, and the lesions are mainly genitals.

Update on acute myeloid leukemia stem cells:New discoveries and therapeutic opportunities

The existence of cancer stem cells has been wellestablished in acute myeloid leukemia. Initial proof of the existence of leukemia stem cells(LSCs) was accomplished by functional studies in xenograft models making use of the key features shared with normal hematopoietic stem cells(HSCs) such as the capacity of self-renewal and the ability to initiate and sustain growth of progenitors in vivo. Significant progress has also been made in identifying the phenotype and signaling pathways specific for LSCs. Therapeutically, a multitude of drugs targeting LSCs are in different phases of preclinical and clinical development. This review focuses on recent discoveries which have advanced our understanding of LSC biology and provided rational targets for development of novel therapeutic agents. One of the major challenges is how to target the selfrenewal pathways of LSCs without affecting normal HSCs significantly therefore providing an acceptable therapeutic window. Important issues pertinent to the successful design and conduct of clinical trials evaluating drugs targeting LSCs will be discussed as well.

Methyl Orange removal by a novel PEI-AuNPs-hemin nanocomposite

A novel poly（ethyleneimine）/Au nanoparticles/hemin nanocomposite （PEI-AuNPs-Hemin） acting for Methyl Orange （MO） removal has been synthesized. PEI-AuNPs was prepared firstly and it was then linked to heroin through the coupling between carboxyl groups in hemin and amino groups in PEI without the activation of carboxyl groups. The high reactivity and stability of AuNPs contributed greatly in the formation of the amido bonds in the nanocomposite. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy and UV-visible spectroscopy were used to characterize the PEI-AuNPs-Hemin. Results show that PEI-AuNPs-Hemin has strong adsorption for MO. Adsorption and degradation experiments were carried out at different pHs, nanocomposite concentrations and UV irradiation times. Removal of MO in acidic solutions was more effective than in basic solutions. The real-time study showed that the MO degradation with the nanocom- posite under UV irradiation was a fast process. In addition, the photocatalytic degradation mechanism was proposed. The study suggests that the PEI-AuNPs-Hemin may have promising applications in environmental monitoring and protection.
