The translocon on the outer membrane of mitochondria （TOM） facilitates the import of nuclear-encoded proteins. The principal machinery of mitochondrial protein transport seems conserved in eukaryotes; however, divergence in the composition and structure of TOM components has been observed between mammals, yeast, and plants. TOM9, the plant homolog of yeast Tom22, is significantly smaller due to a truncation in the cytosolic receptor domain, and its precise function is not understood. Here we provide evidence showing that TOM9.2 from Arabidopsis thaliana is involved in the formation of mature TOM com- plex, most likely by influencing the assembly of the pore-forming subunit TOM40. Dexamethasone- induced RNAi gene silencing of TOM9.2 results in a severe reduction in the mature TOM complex, and the assembly of newly imported TOM40 into the complex is impaired. Nevertheless, mutant plants are fully viable and no obvious downstream effects of the loss of TOM complex, i.e., on mitochondrial import ca- pacity, were observed. Furthermore, we found that TOM9.2 can bind calmodulin （CAM） in vitro and that CaM impairs the assembly of TOM complex in the isolated wild-type mitochondria, suggesting a regula- tory role of TOM9.2 and a possible integration of TOM assembly into the cellular calcium signaling network.

Introduction:Bats are threatened by agricultural intensification,and although bat ecology in agricultural landscapes is in the focus of current research,the effects of interacting spatiotemporal factors on species-specific bat activity above farmland remain understudied.Our aim was to identify spatiotemporal factors and their interactions relevant for the activity of bat species above conventionally managed arable fields.Methods:We repeatedly monitored relative bat activity above open arable fields in Germany using acoustic monitoring.We used site-related biotic and abiotic factors and landscape characteristics across five spatial scales,their combinations,and interactions to identify those factors which best explain variation in bat activity.Results:Numerous interactions between landscape characteristics and the insect abundance affected bat activity above fields.For instance,Pipistrellus pipistrellus became more active with increasing insect abundance,but only above fields with a low proportion of woody vegetation cover in the surroundings.Additionally,the level of bat activity in summer depended on landscape characteristics.For example,the activity of Pipistrellus nathusii was relatively low in summer above fields that were surrounded by vegetation patches with a high degree of edge complexity(e.g.,hedgerow).However,the activity remained at a relatively high level and did not differ between seasons above fields that were surrounded by vegetation patches with a low degree of edge complexity(e.g.,roundly shaped forest patch).Conclusions:Our results revealed that landscape characteristics and their interactions with insect abundance affected bat activity above conventionally managed fields and highlighted the opportunistic foraging behavior of bats.To improve the conditions for bats in agricultural landscapes,we recommend re-establishing landscape heterogeneity to protect aquatic habitats and to increase arthropod availability.

A Miniaturized Crawler Design Based on an Origami-inspired and Geometrically Constrained Spherical Six-bar Linkage

This paper focuses on a newly developed transmission for a milli-scale eight-legged crawling robot called OriSCO.The transmission allows intuitive steering by directly changing the direction of the propulsion force.The transmission is based on the constrained spherical six-bar linkage.The constrained spherical six-bar linkage passes only reciprocating motion out of the motor’s rotating motion,allowing the crawling legs to kick the ground and obtain propulsion.Steering is achieved by adjusting the geometric constraints of the spherical six-bar using a servomotor,allowing the direction of propulsion to be changed.As a result,the OriSCO can move along the ground at a speed of 2.15 body lengths/s,and the robot is 60 mm long.

Risk factors of sexually transmitted infections among female sex workers in Republic of Korea

Background:Female sex workers(FSW)who live in urban areas in Republic of Korea have a particularly high risk of sexually transmitted diseases(STD).We investigated the prevalence of s STDs in FSWs in order to determine the factors associated with sexually transmitted infections in Korea.Methods:Study data were collected from 832 FSWs through a 2014 survey on the prevalence of STDs in high risk populations in Republic of Korea.We assessed the associations between sexually transmitted infections and demographic and risk behaviour variables through logistic regression analysis.Results:The risk probability of sexually transmitted infection was higher for those who drank alcohol often as well as those who had their first sexual experience at an early age.However,the effects of these factors were attenuated by working conditions.The risk probability of sexually transmitted infections was higher for those who engaged in sex with several customers per day as well as for those who did not practice regular condom use.Conclusions:The risk factors for sexually transmitted infections among FSWs in Republic of Korea are related to and affected by working conditions.Thus,multifaceted health interventions to protect FSWs and their sexual health are deemed necessary.

目的调查中小型医院护士交接班的现状、对患者安全文化的认知、对交接班评价的水平,并探讨影响交接班评价的因素。方法选取在韩国中小型医院工作的425名护士为研究对象。调查采用自我评估问卷,包括一般资料问卷、交接班相关特征(Handoff-related Characteristics)、患者安全调查问卷(Patient Safety Survey Questionnaire)和交接班评价量表(Handover Evaluation Scale)。结果护士对患者安全文化的认知水平得分为(3.65±0.45)分,处于中等水平。护士对交接班评价得分为(5.24±0.85)分。大多数护士所在病房没有交接班指南和核查表,在交接班时会出现疏漏。护士对交接班的评价结果受以下因素影响:学历、排班形式、工作年限、交接班方式、对现阶段交接班的满意度、交接时是否出现疏漏、有无交接班指南、交接班教育时间的适当性(P<0.05)。结论为了改进交接班现状,应制订相关制度和标准。有必要开发结构化的交接班教育系统,开展正规的交接班教育,传播统一的交接班知识。

Survival improvement and prognostic factors in recent management of extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma:A single-center study

Background:Cholangiocarcinoma was considered as a dismal disease with very poor prognosis until re-cently.Cholangiocarcinoma is increasingly found due to increased life expectancy.Although surgical and medical management were advanced recently,data on the prognosis,especially extrahepatic cholangio-carcinoma(ECC),were limited.This study aimed to identify clinicopathologic features and prognosis of patients with ECC.Methods:Patients followed up and diagnosed with ECC between January 2014 and December 2016 at a tertiary hospital were included,whereas those with intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma,gallbladder cancer,and ampullary cancer were excluded.Results:A total of 83 patients were followed after the treatment(49 men and 34 women;median age 73.3 years).Cancer location was classified as distal common bile duct(25 patients),proximal com-mon bile duct(24 patients),common hepatic duct(20 patients),and hilar(14 patients).About 14.5%of patients had history of another malignant neoplasm,and 24.1%patients had chronic illness.Surgi-cal resection was performed in 54 patients(65%)and dysplasia was combined in 63%(34/54).Adjuvant chemotherapy was performed in 54%(29/54),but only 7 underwent palliative chemotherapy in 29 non-surgical patients.The median overall survival in all patients was 30.9 months.In analyzing the treatment modality,median survival of adjuvant chemotherapy,surgery only,palliative chemotherapy,and support-ive care groups were 42.9,30.9,12.0,and 8.9 months,respectively(P<0.05).In the Cox regression analy-sis of survival,age,surgical resection,chemotherapy,and comorbidity were significant prognostic factors,and the comorbidity was the only significant prognostic factor in the multivariable analysis(hazard ratio[HR]=2.80;95%CI:1.32–5.95;P=0.007).In a subgroup analysis of surgical patients,the presence of dysplasia was a favorable prognostic factor in the multivariable analysis(HR=0.29;95%CI:0.09–0.91;P=0.033).Conclusions:The overall survival of patients with ECC was quite high and increased with chemotherapy.Abs

Porous Microspheres Comprising CoSe2 Nanorods Coated with N-Doped Graphitic C and Polydopamine-Derived C as Anodes for Long-Lived Na-Ion Batteries

Metal–organic framework-templated nitrogen-doped graphitic carbon(NGC)and polydopaminederived carbon(PDA-derived C)-double coated one-dimensional CoSe_(2) nanorods supported highly porous threedimensional microspheres are introduced as anodes for excellent Na-ion batteries,particularly with long-lived cycle under carbonate-based electrolyte system.The microspheres uniformly composed of ZIF-67 polyhedrons and polystyrene nanobeads(φ=40 nm)are synthesized using the facile spray pyrolysis technique,followed by the selenization process(P-CoSe_(2)@NGC NR).Further,the PDA-derived C-coated microspheres are obtained using a solution-based coating approach and the subsequent carbonization process(P-CoSe_(2)@PDA-C NR).The rational synthesis approach benefited from the synergistic effects of dual carbon coating,resulting in a highly conductive and porous nanostructure that could facilitate rapid diffusion of charge species along with efficient electrolyte infiltration and effectively channelize the volume stress.Consequently,the prepared nanostructure exhibits extraordinary electrochemical performance,particularly the ultra-long cycle life stability.For instance,the advanced anode has a discharge capacity of 291(1000th cycle,average capacity decay of 0.017%)and 142 mAh g^(-1)(5000th cycle,average capacity decay of 0.011%)at a current density of 0.5 and 2.0 A g^(-1),respectively.

Development of hyaluronic acid-based edible film for alleviating dry mouth

For alleviating dry mouth symptoms,edible films based on hyaluronic acid(HA)with 3 different m(800,1200 and 2300 kDa)were prepared(800 F,1200 F and 2300 F,respectively),and the properties as well as effectiveness were compared.The concentration of each HA dispersion for film forming was set as 3.0%,1.5%or 1.0%,for the m800,1200 and 2300 kDa,respectively,based on the solubility.The 800 F showed the highest thickness,tensile strength,and water vapor transparency,whereas obtained the lowest transparency and elongation at break among samples.All of the HA films showed safety against microorganism during 28 storage day at 40℃with 60%humidity.The optimum site for film attachment in mouth was the palate,and800 F was the most effective for stimulating saliva secretion,eliciting a 38%increase compared to control(without film),tested by the elderly over 65 years old.By the sensory test,800 F was also the most acceptable.Based on above results,the edible films effectively stimulating saliva secretion could be produced with HA,and the physical,sensory characteristics as well as disintegration times of the film could be controlled by mand the dissolution concentration of HA.

High performance of TiO_(2)/Cu_(x)O photoelectrodes for regenerative solar energy storage in a vanadium photoelectrochemical cell

Photocatalysts for harvesting solar energy to either electricity or chemical fuels have attracted much attention recently, but they have big obstacles such as wide bandgaps and rapid charge recombinations to overcome for final applications. In this study, we investigates a useful method to utilize vanadium redox pairs, which are commonly applied for vanadium redox flow batteries, to diminish charge recombinations and thus to enhance photocurrent response in regenerative solar energy storage. The results reveal significant improvements in photocurrent density by forming cuprous and cupric oxides in TiO_(2)/Cu_(x)O electrodes under solar AM 1.5 illuminations using the vanadium photoelectrochemical storage cell at 0.025 mol L^(-1) of vanadium redox species in the acid electrolytes. In addition, the stabilized photocurrent density of the copper content optimized TiO_(2)/Cu_(x)O electrodes is almost tripled from the TiO_(2) only electrode because the charge recombinations can be mitigated with the content optimized TiO_(2)/Cu_(x)O electrodes. Therefore, the optimized TiO_(2)/Cu_(x)O electrode results in the highest charge storing performance in the catholyte chamber, and the roles of vanadium redox species are also clearly demonstrated.
