Feasibility and efficacy of gentamicin for treating neonatal sepsis in community-based settings:a systematic review

Background:Neonatal sepsis is a leading cause of neonatal deaths in developing *** current recommended in-hospital treatment is parenteral ampicillin(or penicillin)and gentamicin in young infants for 10-14 days;however,very few could access and *** current review is to evaluate the feasibility of gentamicin in community based ***:Both observational and randomized controlled trials were ***,Embase,Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials and Central Trial Register of India were searched until September *** assessed the risk of bias by Cochrane Collaboration’s"risk of bias"***:Two observational studies indicated feasibility ensuring coverage of population,decrease in case fatality rate in the group treated by community health *** an RCT,no significant difference was observed in the treatment failure rates[odds ratio(OR)=0.88],and the mortality in the first and second week(OR=1.53;OR=2.24)between gentamicin and ceftriaxone *** the gentamicin group,the combination of penicillin and gentamicin showed a lower rate of treatment failure(OR=0.44)and mortality at second week of life(OR=0.17)as compared to the combination of gentamicin and oral ***:Gentamicin for the treatment of neonatal sepsis is both feasible and effective in community-based settings and can be used as an alternative to the hospitalbased care in resource compromised *** there was less evidence in the management of neonatal sepsis in hospitals as was seen in this review in which we included only one RCT and three observational studies.

Revealing localization and regulation of GTPase PmRab7 in lymphoid cells of Penaeus monodon after WSSV infection

Objective:To identify white spot syndrome virus(WSSV)entry into the host-cells of the cultured shrimp Penaeus monodon,we have attempted to localize PmRab7(Ras-related in brain)which is playing a vital role in the WSSV ***:In this study,we have cloned PmRab7 and expressed in Escherichia coli,further purified rPmRab7 was used for antibody production,isolation of lysosomal sub-cellular fractions and western blot against lysosomal ***,high fold-change in PmRab7 regulation with increasing copy number of WSSV has been studied by using real-time ***:651 bp amplicon size gene was successfully amplified,ligated amplicon with pTZ T-tail vector confirmed by colony PCR and retriction enzyme digestion on agarose ***(pRSET-B)651 bp gene transformed successfully in Rosetta and after 6 h of induction expressed rPmRab7 was on SDS page,furthermore soluble fraction of rPmRab7(26 kDa)was purified by ni-NTA ***7 antibody was received by Merk ***.,and western blot analysis revealed that PmRab7 is present in the lysosomal sub-cellular *** number of WSSV was increased 5 fold in 24 h and 20 fold in 72 h of infection and subsequently transcrtipt of PmRab7 was Ct=1.0 to Ct=***:Presence of PmRab7 on lysosome clearly indicating PmRab7 participating in lysosomal maturation,other hand WSSV may follow the same route of *** internalization has directly linked with regulation of PmRab7.

Resistant Tremors and Unexplained Weight Loss Could Also Be a Sign of HIV

This case study is done to show a different type of presentation of a HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) patient. Neurological symptoms in HIV are normally due to Progressive Multifocal Leukoencephalopathy (PML) which is a reactivated infection caused by John Cunningham virus (JC virus). The disease causes fatal demyelination of the central nervous system (CNS). This case presented a 51-year-old Nigerian man who complained of resistant tremors and unexplained weight loss. The patient was suspected to have HIV when a MRI scan revealed T2/FLAIR hyper intensity of white matter which was a sign of PML. HIV ELISA was done and came back with a positive result. PML presenting in the form of tremors is very rare and more research is required to focus on the neurological presentation of HIV.

Enteric fever is widely prevalent in the tropics. Central nervous system involvement is not rare and reported incidence varies from 5% to 35% [1]. Various well-known neuropsychiatric manifestations include confusional state, encephalopathy, meningism, convulsions and focal neurological deficits. Acute cerebellar ataxia as an isolated neurological complication of enteric fever is very rare and limited to only a few case reports [2]. Here we report a case of enteric fever who presents Acute Cerebellar Ataxia.

Above Ground Biomass Assessment from Combined Optical and SAR Remote Sensing Data in Surat Thani Province, Thailand

Today the carbon content in the atmosphere is predominantly increasing due to greenhouse gas emission and deforestation. Forest plays a key role in absorbing carbon dioxide from atmosphere by process of sequestration through photosynthesis and stores in form of wood biomass which contains nearly 70% - 80% of global carbon. Different forms of biomass in the environment include agricultural products, wood, renewable energy and solid waste. Therefore, it is essential to estimate the biomass content in the environment. In olden days, biomass is estimated by forest inventory techniques which consume lot of time and cost. The spatial distribution of biomass cannot be obtained by traditional inventory forest techniques so the application of remote sensing in biomass assessment is introduced to solve the problem. Overall accuracy of classified map indicates that land features of Surat Thani on map show an accuracy of 91.13% with different land features on ground. Both optical (LANDSAT-8) and synthetic aperture radar (ALOS-2) remote sensing data are used for above ground biomass (AGB) assessment. Biomass that stores in branch and stem of tree is called as above ground biomass. Twenty ground sample plots of 30 m × 30 m utilized for biomass calculation from allometric equations. Optical remote sensing calculates the biomass based on the spectral indices of Soil Adjusted Vegetation Index (SAVI) and Ratio Vegetation Index (RVI) by regression analysis (R2 = 0.813). Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is an emerging technique that uses high frequency wavelengths for biomass estimation. HV backscattering of ALOS-2 shows good relation (R2 = 0.74) with field calculated biomass compared to HH (R2 = 0.43) utilizes for biomass model generation by linear regression analysis. Combination of both optical spectral indices (SAVI, RVI) and HV (ALOS-2) SAR backscattering increases the plantation biomass accuracy to (R2 = 0.859) compared to optical (R

In the 21st century the fresh water scarcity increased very rapidly due to the urbanization and industrialization process. In these conditions the urban wastewater plays an important role in the water usage criteria. In this aspect, in all the major cities, wastewater treatment plants have been constructed to treat the urban wastewater in view of decreasing the water scarcity. The presence of nutrients in the wastewater is considered as beneficial to agricultural practices. The contaminants present in the wastewater pose health risks directly to agricultural workers and indirectly to the consumers as the long term application of the wastewater may result in the accumulation of toxic elements in soil and in plants. In this way the heavy metals will circulate among the food chain and food web to cause adverse effects on human health as well as on soil health. In the present study an attempt has been made to study the characteristics of urban wastewater at wastewater treatment plant of Mysore city. And also heavy metal behavior was studied with the analysis of heavy metals in wastewater, Biosolid and receiving soil along with the plants which indicates the uptake of heavy metals.

Multimodality Vessel Modeling Analysis for Cerebral Arteriovenous Malformation

Cerebral arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are a type of vascular anomaly consisting of large intertwined vascular growth (Nidus) that is prone to serious hemorrhaging and can result in patient death if left untreated. Intervention through surgical clipping of feeding and draining vessels to the Nidus is a common treatment. However, identification of which vessels to clip is challenging even to experienced surgeons aided by conventional image guidance systems. The lumped modeling for the Cerebral Arteriovenous Malformation (CAVM) hemodynamic analysis is of high importance in clinical world. As part of the treatment planning for CAVM, it is difficult for doctors to assess the NIDUS part, which may get rupture while inserting catheter. In this paper, we have proposed a non-invasive method for assessing the hemodynamic condition of AVM. The measurement of flow and pressure without intervention along the vessel is a big challenge due to occlusion, bending and thinning of the vessel in Arteriovenous Malformation patients. In this paper, we analyzed a lumped model for the vascular malformation using various imaging multi-modalities that help to analyze CAVM Structures.
