Localized delivery of drugs is an emerging field both with regards to drug delivery during disease as well as in tissue *** significant achievements made in the last decades,the efficient delivery of proteins and peptides remains challenging,especially in cases requiring long-term release of proteins after *** localized delivery of nucleic acids(nA)represents an interesting alternative due to higher physicochemical stability of nA,increased efficiency by harnessing cells as bioreactors for the production of required proteins and improved versatility with regards to expression of specific proteins through plasmid DnA or repression of gene products through ***,unlike most proteins and peptides,nA must be delivered to the cytoplasm or nucleus to be efficacious,resulting in significant delivery *** herein describe frequently used non-viral vectors for the delivery of nA including polyplexes,lipoplexes and lipopolyplexes and summarize recent developments in the field of nucleic acid delivery systems for local application based on hydrogels,solid scaffolds and physical delivery *** challenges associated with the different approaches are identified and options to address these challenges are discussed.

We revisit a new type of Voronoi diagram, in which distance is measured from a point to a pair of points. We consider a few more such distance functions, based on geometric primitives, namely, circles and triangles, and analyze the structure and complexity of the nearest- and furthest-neighbor 2-site Voronoi diagrams of a point set in the plane with respect to these distance functions. In addition, we bring to notice that 2-point site Voronoi diagrams can be alternatively interpreted as 1-site Voronoi diagrams of segments, and thus, our results also enhance the knowledge on the latter.

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a heterogeneous and aggressive hematologic malignancy that is associated with a high relapse rate and poor prognosis. Despite advances in immunotherapies in solid tumors and other hematologic malignancies, AML has been particularly difficult to treat with immunotherapies, as their efficacy is limited by the ability of leukemic cells to evade T cell recognition. In this review, we discuss the common mechanisms of T cell evasion in AML: (1) increased expression of immune checkpoint molecules;(2) downregulation of antigen presentation molecules;(3) induction of T cell exhaustion;and (4) creation of an immunosuppressive environment through the increased frequency of regulatory T cells. We also review the clinical investigation of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) in AML. We discuss the limitations of ICIs, particularly in the context of T cell evasion mechanisms in AML, and we describe emerging strategies to overcome T cell evasion, including combination therapies. Finally, we provide an outlook on the future directions of immunotherapy research in AML, highlighting the need for a more comprehensive understanding of the complex interplay between AML cells and the immune system.

In one-dimensional semiconductors such as conjugated polymers and semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotubes(s-SWCnTs),injected charge carriers(electrons or holes)can have profound impacts on both electronic conductivity and optical spectra,even at low carrier *** charge-related spectral features is a key fundamental challenge with important technological ***,we employ a systematic suite of experimental and theoretical tools to understand the mid-infrared charge signatures of heavily p-type doped polymer-wrapped *** a broad range of nanotube diameters,we find that hole charge carriers induce strong Fano anti-resonances in mid-infrared transmission spectra that correspond to defect-related(D-band)and in-plane tangential(G-band)Raman-active vibrational modes,along with antiresonances arising from infrared(IR)-active polymer and SWCnT *** employ^(13)C isotope-labeled s-SWCnTs and a removable wrapping polymer to clarify the relative intensities,energies,and sources of all observed *** performed with the“amplitude mode model”are used to quantitatively reproduce Raman spectra and also help to explain the outsized intensity of the D-band anti-resonance,relative to the G-band,observed for both moderately and degenerately doped *** results provide a framework for future studies of ground-and excited-state charge carriers in s-SWCnTs and a variety of low-dimensional materials.

Local Volunteerism and Resilience Following Large-Scale disaster: Outcomes for Health Support Team Volunteers in Haiti

In-depth interviews with local Haitian volunteers trained in a psychological disaster recovery program called Health Support Team(HST) provide insight into the psychosocial outcomes resulting from their engagement with the program. Qualitative interviews were conducted with four male Haitian participants who had survived the January 2010 Haiti earthquake and had worked as HST volunteers for at least 6 months. Interviews were analyzed using narrative inquiry analysis, which allows individuals to discover and disclose a deeper meaning in their experience and enables the researchers to access more detailed data. Previous research supports the claim that volunteerism provides many important psychological benefits, and the results of the present study suggest that among survivors of large-scale disasters, volunteerism is beneficial as a means of increasing psychological resilience and facilitating personal recovery. Results and themes of our analysis included a reported increase in both hope and purpose for the respondents. Findings suggest that volunteerism on the part of members of the surviving community following large-scale disaster increases resilience among the volunteers and further contributes to their recovery.

There are many approaches to address geospatial monitoring of pipeline overpasses,among which the most widespread methods are terrestrial laser scanning and total station ***,there is a problem in comparing the geospatial monitoring data collected by different methods in different *** main task of this work is to find the correspondence between points in different *** total station measurements are carried out in specific discrete points of the pipeline *** contrast,terrestrial laser scanning allows the collection of the whole data set without fixing specific point *** order to compare different data in different epochs,it is necessary to select a relevant presentation of the monitoring results(reference model)and specify appropriate criteria for quality *** general,a pipeline can be presented as a spatial *** this study,two types of reference models are considered:cubic splines and Bezier *** models are examined for the monitoring of two gas pipeline *** first measurement epoch is accomplished by the terrestrial laser scanning,and the second measurement epoch is completed by the total *** reference models are simulated by Matlab *** preliminary accuracy of ground laser scanning and total station mea-surement is selected as the criterion of quality *** simulation and comparison results provide the evidence that the correct selection of reference model is a crucial component of successful geospatial *** results show that the Hermite splines are effective in the comparison of different data *** splines present the interpolation accuracy compatible with measurement accuracy,i.e.,15-20 mm for spatial displacement determination.
