AIM： To evaluate the usefulness of various computed tomography （CT） findings including distribution of infiltration or fluid collection in differentiating the major etiologies of acute pancreatitis. METHODS： We reviewed 75 relatively severe cases of acute pancreatitis of alcoholic （n = 43） or biliary stone （n = 32） etiology having infiltration or fluid collection on CT. We compared the pancreatic size, CT grading, presence or absence of biliary calculi, and dilatation of pancreatic or bile duct. We also evaluated degree and the distribution of infiltration and fluid collection in each group. RESULTS： The sizes of pancreas were not different between alcohol group and stone group. Alcohol group showed higher CT grading than stone group （P 〈 0.05）. Presence of biliary stone and duct dilatation was statistically significant in differentiating etiology （P 〈 0.05）. Alcohol group showed significantly prominent peripancreatic pathology than stone group only in left peritoneal compartment （P = 0.020）. COnCLUSIOn： Alcoholic pancreatitis tends to form more prominent peripancreatic changes than gallstone pancreatitis in relatively severe cases. This is evident on the anterior aspect of left abdomen. Although clinical history and some CT findings usually are a major determinant of the etiology, this pattern of peripancreatic pathology may have an ancillary role in determining the etiologies of acute pancreatitis in the equivocal cases.

Mg-Al-Zn-Ca-Y alloys with excellent ignition and corrosion resistances—termed SEn alloys(where the letters"S,""E,"and"n"stand for stainless,environmentally friendly,and non-flammable,respectively)—have been developed *** this study,the microstructure,tensile properties,and high-cycle fatigue properties of an extruded Mg-9.0Al-0.8Zn-0.1Mn-0.3Ca-0.2Y(SEn9)alloy are investigated and compared with those of a commercial Mg-9.0Al-0.8Zn-0.1Mn(AZ91)alloy extruded under the same *** the extruded SEn9 alloy and the extruded AZ91 alloy have a fully recrystallized structure comprising equiaxed grains,but the former has a smaller average grain size owing to the promoted dynamic recrystallization during *** extruded AZ91 alloy contains coarse Mg_(17)Al_(12) discontinuous precipitate(DP)bands parallel to the extrusion direction,which are formed during its cool down after *** contrast,the extruded SEn9 alloy contains relatively fine undissolved Al_(2)Ca,Al_(8)Mn_(4)Y,and Al_(2)Y second-phase particles,which are formed during the solidification stage of the casting *** tensile strength of the extruded SEn9 alloy,which has finer grains and more abundant particles,is slightly higher than that of the extruded AZ91 ***,the difference in their strengths is relatively small because the stronger solid-solution hardening and precipitation hardening effects in the extruded AZ91alloy offset the stronger grain-boundary hardening and dispersion hardening effects in the extruded SEn9alloy to some *** tensile elongation of the extruded AZ91 alloy is significantly lower than that of the extruded SEn9 alloy because the large cracks formed in the DP bands in the former cause its premature *** the extruded SEn9 alloy has higher tensile properties than the extruded AZ91alloy,the high-cycle fatigue life and fatigue strength of the former are shorter and lower,respectively,than those of the *** DP bands in the extruded

Background: Conditional survival(CS) has been established as a clinically relevant prognostic factor for cancer survivors, and the CS in gallbladder(GB) cancer has not yet been fully evaluated. In this study, we evaluated the cancerspecific CS rate and cancer-specific survival(CSS) rate in patients with GB cancer at multiple time points and investigated prognostic factors which affect cancer-specific CS rate to provide more accurate survival ***: Between 2004 and 2013, a total of 9760 patients with GB cancer were identified from the Surveillance,Epidemiology, and End Results(SEER) data. The 3-year cancer-specific CS rate was calculated using the covariateadjusted survival function in the Cox model for each year since diagnosis, and the results were analyzed together with the adjusted CSS rates at the same time points. Cox proportional hazards regression was performed to ascertain the individual contribution of factors associated with CSS rate at diagnosis and cancer-specific CS rates at 1,3, and 5 years after ***: The adjusted 5-year CSS rate was 26.1 %. The adjusted 3-year cancer-specific CS rates at 1,2,3,4, and 5 years after diagnosis were 55.5,72.2,81.5,86.8, and 90.5%, respectively. At the time of diagnosis, age, race, histology, grade,T, n, and M categories, surgery, radiotherapy, insurance status, and marriage status were significant prognostic factors of CSS. Five years after diagnosis, however,T and M categories were significant prognostic factors for survivors(P = 0.007 and P = 0.009, respectively), whereas surgery and radiotherapy were ***: T and M categories were significant prognostic factors even 5 years after the initial diagnosis, whereas local treatments at the time of diagnosis were not, suggesting that patients with GB cancer at high risks might need further adjuvant therapy after primary treatments. nanocrystalline ZrB2 film and nanocomposite Zr-B-O-n films were prepared by non-reactive as well as re- active magnetron sputtering techniques, respectively. By means of X-ray diffraction analysis, electron probe microanalysis, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy, the influence of nitrogen flow ratio on the film microstructure and characteristics were investigated systematically, including the depo- sition rate, chemical compositions, phase constituents, grain size, chemical bonding, as well as cross-sectional morphologies. Meanwhile, the hardness and adhesion of above films were also evaluated by micro-indentation method and a scratch tester. With increasing the nitrogen flow ratio, the deposition rate of above films de- creased approximately linearly, whereas the contents of n and O in the films increased gradually and tended to saturation. Moreover, the film microstructure was also altered gradually from a fine columnar microstructure to a featureless glass-structure. As the nitrogen flow ratio was 11.7%, the Zr-B-O-n film possessed an typical nanocomposite structure and presented good mechanical properties. During the process of reactive sputtering of metal borides, the introduction of nitrogen can show a pronounced suppression of columnar grain growth and strong nanocomposite structure forming ability.

To enable the computer-aided design of vertically stacked two-dimensional(2D)van der Waals(vdW)heterostructure devices,we here introduce a non-equilibrium first-principles simulation method based on the multi-space constrained-search density functional *** it to graphene/few-layer hBn/graphene field-effect transistors,we show that the negative differential resistance(nDR)characteristics can be produced not only from the gating-induced mismatch between two graphene Dirac cones in energy-momentum space but from the bias-dependent energetic shift of defect ***,for a carbon atom substituted for a nitrogen atom(C_(n))within inner hBn layers,the increase of bias voltage is found to induce a self-consistent electron filling of in-gap C_(n)states,which in turn changes voltage drop profiles and produces symmetric nDR *** the Cn placed on outer hBn layers,however,the pinning of C_(n)states to nearby graphene significantly modifies device characteristics,demonstrating the critical impact of atomic details for 2D vdW devices.

Objective:The effectiveness of adjuvant treatments for resected gallbladder carcinoma(GBC)has remained unclear due to lack of randomized controlled trials;thus,the aim of present study was to evaluate the role of adjuvant treatments,including chemoradiotherapy(CRT)and/or chemotherapy(CTx),in patients with resected ***:A total of 733 GBC patients who received curative-intent surgical resection were identified in a multi-institutional *** 733 patients,372(50.8%)did not receive adjuvant treatment,whereas 215(29.3%)and 146(19.9%)received adjuvant CTx and CRT,*** locoregional recurrence-free survival(LRFS),recurrence-free survival(RFS),and overall survival(OS)of the adjuvant treatment groups were compared according to tumor stage(stage II *** III–IV).Results:In stage II disease(n=381),the 5-year LRFS,RFS,and OS were not significantly different among the no-adjuvant therapy,CTx,and CRT groups,and positive resection margin,presence of perineural invasion,and nx classification were consistently associated with worse LRFS,RFS,and OS in the multivariate analysis(Pn=352),the CRT group had significantly higher 5-year LRFS,RFS,and OS than the no-adjuvant therapy and CTx groups(67.8%,45.2%,and 56.9%;37.9%,28.8%,and 35.4%;and 45.0%,30.0%,and 45.7%,respectively)(Pnclusions:CRT has value as adjuvant treatment for resected GBC with stage III–IV *** study is needed for stage II disease with high-risk features.
