A double balanced Gilbert-cell class-A amplifier bleeding mixer (DBGC CAAB mixer) is proposed and implemented. The injection current is utilized to amplify the local oscillator (LO) signal to improve the performance of the transconductor stage. The DBGC CAAB mixer achieves a conversion gain of 17.5 dB at -14 dBm LO power, and the noise figure is suppressed from 45 dB to 10.7 dB. It is important to stress that the new configuration will not drain additional power in contrast to the former current bleeding mixers. This topology dramatically relieves the requirement of the LO power. The DBGC CAAB mixer is implemented by using 0.18-μm RFCMOS technology and operates at the 2.4 GHz ISM application with 10 MHz intermediate frequency. The power consumption is 12 mA at 1.5 V supply voltage. The DBGC CAAB mixer features the highest FOM figure within a wide range of LO power.

Robustness of the network controllability reflects how well a networked system can maintain its controllability against destructive attacks. The measure of the network controllability robustness is quantified by a sequence of values that record the remaining controllability of the network after a sequence of node-removal or edge-removal attacks. Traditionally, the controllability robustness is determined by attack simulations, which is computationally time consuming. In this paper, an improved method for predicting the controllability robustness of undirected networks is developed based on machine learning using a convolutional neural network. This approach is motivated by the following observations: 1) there is no clear correlation between the topological features and the controllability robustness of a general undirected network, 2) the adjacency matrix of a network can be represented as a gray-scale image, 3) the convolutional neural network technique has proved successful in image processing without human intervention. In the new framework, preprocessing and filtering are embedded, and a sufficiently large number of training datasets generated by simulations are used to train several convolutional neural networks for classification and prediction,respectively. Extensive experimental studies were carried out, which demonstrate that the proposed framework for predicting the controllability robustness of undirected networks is more accurate and reliable than the conventional single convolutional neural network predictor.

A WiFi-ZigBee hybrid BAN solution, namely WiZBAN, is proposed and implemented to cater for the development of high traffic AMI for smart grid application. It is important to highlight that the major challenge of WiZBAN is to handle the high density environment which results in heavy traffic loading and weak signal propagation. To overcome the captioned problem, Vertical Backbone Communication (VBC) and Horizontal Floor Communication (HFC) are defined for WiZBAN. The WiZBAN consists of WiZBAN Gateway (WiZGW), WiZBAN Meter Hub (WiZBAN) and WiZBAN In Home Display (WiZIHD) which caters for the smart grids services including smart metering and demand response. The WiZGW is the entrance of WiZBAN and connects WiZBAN to utilities. The WiZGW also teams up with WiZMH to enables VBC. On the other hand, WiZMH serves as the interception point of VBC and HFC. It interacts with smart meters and sets up the HFC together with WiZIHD to provide the user interface for end users. To shorten the transmission time, WiFi is adopted for VBC while ZigBee is applied to HCF to overcome the weak signal propagation. To investigate the performance of WiZBAN, a case study has been conducted based on an existing 23 floor residential building. From the measured and simulated results, the average round trip delay of demand response and smart metering are found to be 0.6 s and 9 s respectively.

The widely adoption of Electric Vehicle (EV) has been identified as a major challenge for future development of smart grids. The ever increasing electric vehicle charging further increases the energy demand. This paper reports the development of an Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) as an effective tool to reshape the load profile of EV charging by adopting appropriate demand side management strategy. This paper presents a total solution for EV charging service platform (EVAMI) based on power line and internet communication. It must be stressed that the development of Third Party Customer Service Platform in this investigation facilitates a single bill to be issued to EV owners. Hence, EV owners understand their energy usage and thus may perform energy saving activity efficiently. Experiment and evaluation of the proposed system show that the throughput achieved is about 5 Mbps at 10 ms end to end delay in Power line Communication. By introducing two dimensional dynamic pricing and charging schedule, the proposed EVAMI successfully reduces 36% peak consumption and increases the “off peak” consumption by 54%. Therefore the EVAMI does not only reduce the peak consumption but also relocates the energy demand effectively.

A WiMAX-ZigBee energy management system for green education has been developed. The system helps to resolve the disgusting environmental problems. This paper explores the concept of energy management and introduces an Energy Management System located at campus areas. Analysis shows that 30% energy can be saved from the total energy consumption which translates to a saving of 72 thousand million kWh of energy annually. Such saving reduces 48 million tons of CO2 emission for the environment.

A Study of Address Shortage in a Tree Based ZigBee Network for Mobile Health Applications

There are increasing demands for mobile health applications. This paper reports the development of a mobile health profile which dedicates to mobile applications. The mobile health profile is developed in association with the ZigBee Health Care profile and the IEEE 11073 standard which is normally applied to non-mobile applications. Since mobile sensors have to be carried by patients, the mobile health profile must facilitate mobility. In this investigation, a ZigBee fixed-mobile network (ZFMN) is defined and developed to supplement the ZigBee Health Care Profile for patient monitoring. The mobility study of ZigBee is performed using a random waypoint OPNET simulation model. In a ZFMN, the critical issue of address shortage is identified and discussed. It is analyzed that the problematic address shortage in a ZFMN may generate a huge amount of orphaned end devices and thus the packet drop percentage may potentially rise to 70%, rendering the network unable to function properly. Without introducing additional governing schemes, it is evaluated that the communication of the entire ZigBee network may paralyze. Further vigorous test are performed (by OPNET) on the communication capability of ZFMN when devices are randomly moving and sending data in 1s. It is vital to point out that under the adverse condition of address shortage, the performance of a ZFMN is still encouraging as long as the packet drop percentage has been kept below 3% before running out of address. The conclusion drawn in this analysis is that the packet drop percentage should be kept below 3% to provide a satisfactory QoS for an effective mobile health application using ZFMN such as patient monitoring. Such finding is also important for other future mobile application design of ZigBee. The address shortage issue is left as an open problem that needs attention for a resolution.

Injuries to the central nervous system(CNS)such as stroke,brain,and spinal cord trauma often result in permanent disabilities because adult CNS neurons only exhibit limited axon *** brain has a surprising intrinsic capability of recovering itself after ***,the hostile extrinsic microenvironment significantly hinders axon *** advances have indicated that the inactivation of intrinsic regenerative pathways plays a pivotal role in the failure of most adult CNS neuronal ***,substantial evidence has convincingly demonstrated that the mechanistic target of rapamycin(mTOR)signaling is one of the most crucial intrinsic regenerative pathways that drive axonal regeneration and sprouting in various CNS *** this review,we will discuss the recent findings and highlight the critical roles of mTOR pathway in axon regeneration in different types of CNS ***,we will demonstrate that the reactivation of this regenerative pathway can be achieved by blocking the key mTOR signaling components such as phosphatase and tensin homolog(PTEN).Given that multiple mTOR signaling components are endogenous inhibitory factors of this pathway,we will discuss the promising potential of RNA-based therapeutics which are particularly suitable for this purpose,and the fact that they have attracted substantial attention recently after the success of coronavirus disease 2019 *** specifically tackle the blood-brain barrier issue,we will review the current technology to deliver these RNA therapeutics into the brain with a focus on nanoparticle *** will propose the clinical application of these RNA-mediated therapies in combination with the brain-targeted drug delivery approach against mTOR signaling components as an effective and feasible therapeutic strategy aiming to enhance axonal regeneration for functional recovery after CNS injury.

Many medication errors could be avoided if administration was more closely linked with structured monitoring. The contributory factors to administration errors occurred in one recent year were reviewed and identified contributory factors to errors as six domains of administration principles according to the report from the Quality and Safety website. The current measures including guidelines, policy, and practices to prevent the administration errors identified in the previous step were searched from the United Christian Hospital (UCH) homepage. Meanwhile, the international measures suggested in literature were identified to address the administration errors identified. 41 cases were identified as medication errors related to administration error events, with total twenty contributory factors identified according to the incident report which identified five contributory factors as common causes. Measures to prevent interruption of medication round and measures to improve individual knowledge and skills, and personal responsebility were suggested to fill the gaps. The medication administration errors should be avoided through both education reinforcing programme and preventive interventions of distraction or interruption to the procedure after comparing the existing measures to the suggested measures from literature. This study was so important to improve the current measures to prevent medication administration errors.

AIM:To elucidate etiologic associations between Helicobacter pylori(H pylori),lifestyle,environmental factors and gastric cardiac adenocarcinoma(GCA)among men. METHODS:A hospital-based case-control study was conducted in Taiwan from 2000 to *** cases were newly confirmed as primary *** controls were selected matching with age,sex,and admission date to each *** were informedof potential risk factors with a structured question- naire by trained interviewers during hospitalization and provided a blood sample for the determination of H pylori *** ratio(OR)and 95%confidence interval(95%CI)were used to evaluate risk,and a multivariate conditional logistic regression model was performed. RESULTS:All participants recruited for this study were men,consisting of 41 cases and 205 *** of the univariate analysis showed that significant factors associated with the etiology of GCA included H pylori(OR =2.69,95%CI=1.30-5.53),cigarette smoking(OR= 2.28,95%CI=1.05-4.96),working or exercising after meals(OR=3.26,95%CI=1.31-8.11),salted food (OR=2.51,95%CI=1.08-6.11),fresh vegetables(OR =0.28,95%CI=0.09-0.80),fruits(OR=0.19,95% CI=0.04-0.89),and rice as principal food(OR=0.53, 95%CI=0.30-0.85).Multivariate conditional logistic regression models indicated that a significantly elevated risk of contracting GCA was associated with working or exercising after meals(OR=3.18,95%CI=1.23-9.36) and H pylori infection(OR=2.93,95%CI=1.42-6.01). In contrast,the consumption of fresh vegetables(OR =0.22,95%CI=0.06-0.83),fruits(OR=0.28,95% CI=0.09-0.79)and rice as principal food(OR=0.48, 95%CI=0.24-0.93)remained as significant beneficial factor associated with GCA. CONCLUSION:Working or exercising after meals and H pylori infection increase the risk of GCA,but higher intakes of rice,fresh vegetables and fruits reduce the risk.
