The local design and construction practices in the United Arab Emirates （UAE）, together with Dubai＇s unique rate of development, warrant special attention to the selection of Lateral Force-Resisting Systems （LFRS）. This research proposes four different feasible solutions for the selection of the LFRS for tall buildings and quantifies the impact of these selections on seismic performance and cost. The systems considered are： Steel Special Moment-Resisting Frame （SMRF）, Concrete SMRF, Steel Dual System （SMRF with Special Steel Plates Shear Wall, SPSW）, and Concrete Dual System （SMRF with Special Concrete Shear Wall, SCSW）. The LFRS selection is driven by seismic setup as well as the adopted design and construction practices in Dubai. It is found that the concrete design alternatives are consistently less expensive than their steel counterparts. The steel dual system is expected to have the least damage based on its relatively lesser interstory drifts. However, this preferred performance comes at a higher initial construction cost. Conversely, the steel SMRF system is expected to have the most damage and associated repair cost due to its excessive flexibility. The two concrete alternatives are expected to have relatively moderate damage and repair costs in addition to their lesser initial construction cost.

Cushion is a layer of granular materials between the raft and the ground. The shear behavior of the interface between the cushion and the raft may influence the seismic performance of the superstructure. In order to quantify such influences, horizontal shear tests on the interfaces between different cushion materials and concrete raft under monotonic and cyclic loading were carried out. The vertical pressure P_v, material type and cushion thickness h_c were taken as variables. Conclusions include： 1） under monotonic loading, P_v is the most significant factor; the shear resistance P_（hmax） increases as P_v increases, but the normalized factor of resistance μ_n has an opposite tendency; 2） for the materials used in this study, μ_n varies from 0.40 to 0.70, the interface friction angle δ_s varies from 20° to 35°, while u_（max） varies from 3 mm to 15 mm; 3） under cyclic loading, the interface behavior can be abstracted as a ＂three-segment＂ back-bone curve, the main parameters include μ_n, the displacement u_1 and stiffness K_1 of the elastic stage, the displacement u_2 and stiffness K_2 of the plastic stage; 4） by observation and statistical analysis, the significance of different factors, together with values of K_1, K_2 and μ_n have been obtained.

根据GSA和DoD为预防结构逐步破坏而制订的规范中所推荐的APM方法,对提高重力荷载下,钢结构抗弯能力的三种改造方法的有效性进行了分析。主要采用的是三维非线性动力分析法。分析模型为6×3跨的18层钢结构,这个结构曾由于底层突然移除一根柱而遭受到破坏。对跨长为5,6,7·5,9m的4个建筑进行了分析。分别采用三种方法改造结构并对其进行了评估,即增加梁的强度、增加梁的刚度以及同时增加梁的强度与刚度。通过分析改造后梁的转角、约束力和位移延性这三个性能指标的增强效应,来评估相应改造方法的有效性。

Objective: To study the timing of Bevacizumab (BVC) in the overall treatment strategy of advanced metastatic colorectal cancer - early use (first-line) or later use. Methods: 41 patients with progressive metastatic colorectal carcinoma were included. Patients were randomized to receive chemotherapy with or without BVC. Primary end point was objective response. Secondary end points were median survival, time to tumor progression, and toxicity. Results: Partial response with second-line BVC group constituted 25% and 18.8% in patients with first-line chemotherapy and BVC-based regimen respectively, compared to 11.8% and 5.9% with second-line chemotherapy. Median time to progression was 3.1 vs. 2.3 months for cases with first-line chemotherapy and BVC-based regimens respectively. Median survival was 8.2 vs. 4 months in both groups respectively (P = 0.019). Conclusion: Second-line chemotherapy combined BVC had higher disease control rate (partial response and stable disease), median time to progression and median survival in BVC-na?ve patients compared to patients with first-line BVC-based therapy. BVC should be maintained in the second- and third-line settings, as cases with BVC discontinuation had significantly lower median time to disease progression and median survival. Selection of patients for use of BVC was recommended with taking into consideration the cost-benefit value and that the discontinuation of BVC would increase tumor progression.

Protective compartments are typically used to protect some specific structures from internal explosions,such as industrial buildings that contain devices that may explode in certain *** research investigates how the response of reinforced concrete(RC)compartment structures subjected to internal blast loads are affected by the following aspects:introduction of material nonlinearity in the analysis,reinforcement ratio,and aspect ratio of the *** achieve this goal,a calibrated and sophisticated FE numerical model is introduced,and a parametric study for the intended aspects is carried out.A discussion of the results and conclusions are offered,which show the role of each aspect in the dynamic performance of the compartment *** main conclusions are as follows:introduction of material nonlinearity in this type of analysis and for these structures is very important and significant in obtaining accurate outputs that are similar to actual behavior;the reinforcement ratio has a significant effect on the response and its effect varies depending on the thickness of the compartment;in general,increasing the reinforcement ratio enhances the behavior and reduces the stresses in the compartment;and the aspect ratio of the compartment does not show a clear pattern on the response of such structures under internal blast loads.

The large-scale application of renewable energy power generation technology brings new challenges to the operation of traditional power grids andenergy management on the load side. Microgrid can effectively solve this problemby using its regulation and flexibility, and is considered to be an ideal *** traditional method of computing total transfer capability is difficult due tothe central integration of wind farms. As a result, the differential evolutionextreme learning machine is offered as a data mining approach for extractingoperating rules for the total transfer capability of tie-lines in wind-integratedpower systems. K-medoids clustering under the two-dimensional “wind power-load consumption” feature space is used to define representative operational scenarios initially. Then, using stochastic sampling and repetitive power flow, aknowledge base for total transfer capability operating rule mining is ***, a novel method is used to filter redundant characteristics and find featuresthat are closely associated to the total transfer capability in order to decrease theultra-high dimensionality of operational features. Finally, by feeding the trainingdata into the proposed algorithm, the total transfer capability operation rules arederived from the knowledge base. It can be seen that, the proposed algorithmcan optimize the system performance with good accuracy and generality, according to numerical data.

Objective: To assess the clinical anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial efficacy of Nigella sativa oil compared with chlorhexidine in patients with gingivitis. Methods: A double-blind, randomized clinical trial was conducted in patients having chronic generalized gingivitis. Patients were randomly assigned to receive Nigella sativa oil(n=18) or chlorhexidine(n=19). The following assessments were made on day 0 and day 15: plaque index, gingival index, gingival IL-6 and IL-18 levels were measured using ELISA, plaque colony-forming units, and alpha-hemolytic Streptococcus strains. Data were analyzed using parametric and non-parametric tests and Fisher’s exact ***: Both interventions reduced plaque index and gingival index scores(P0.05). The post-intervention plaque index and gingival index scores and inflammatory cytokine levels between the two groups were not significantly different. Both interventions caused a significant reduction in the plaque colony-forming units(P<0.000 1), reducing pathogenic bacteria: Streptococcus mitis, Streptococcus oralis, Streptococcus sanguinis, and Streptococcus parasanguinis in the chlorhexidine group(50%)(P=0.103 1), and the Nigella sativa oil group(20%)(P=0.739 5). Conclusions: Nigella sativa oil had anti-inflammatory and antibacterial activities, reducing biofilm formation and disrupting the colonization of pathogenic bacteria essential for the progression of periodontal disease. Nigella sativa oil could offer an alternative therapy for treating gingivitis and may prevent associated systemic diseases and improve overall health outcomes.
