Variability in conflict of interest disclosures by physicians presenting trauma research

AIM To quantify the variability of financial disclosures by authors presenting orthopaedic trauma research. METHODS Self-reported authorship disclosure information published for the 2012 American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons(AAOS) and Orthopaedic Trauma Association(OTA) meetings was compiled from meeting programs. Both the AAOS and OTA required global disclosures for participants. Data collected included:(1) total number of presenters;(2) number of presenters with financial disclosures;(3) number of disclosures per author;(4) total number of companies supporting each author; and(5) specific type of disclosure. Disclosures made by authors presenting at more than one meeting were then compared for *** Of the 5002 and 1168 authors presenting at the AAOS and OTA annual meetings, respectively, 1649(33%) and 246(21.9%) reported a financial disclosure(P nference, the mean number of disclosures among presenters with disclosures was 4.01 with a range from 1 to 44. The majority of authors with disclosures reported three or more disclosures(n = 876, 53.1%). The most common cited disclosurewas as a paid consultant(51.5%) followed by research support(43.0%) and paid speaker(34.8%). Among the 256 physicians with financial disclosures presenting at the OTA conference, the mean number of disclosures was 4.03 with a range from 1 to 22. Similar to the AAOS conference, the majority of authors with any disclosures at the OTA conference reported three or more disclosures(n = 140, 54.7%). Most authors with a disclosure had three or more disclosures and the most common type of disclosure was paid consulting. At the OTA conference, the most commonly cited form of disclosure was paid consultant(54.3%) followed by research support(46.1%) and paid speaker(42.6%). Of the 346 researchers who presented at both meetings, 112(32.4%) authors were found to have at least one disclosure discrepancy. Among authors with a discrepancy, 36(32.1%) had three or

Aims Plants generally respond to nitrogen(n)fertilization with increased growth,but n addition can also suppress rhizosphere effects,which consequently alters soil *** quantified the influence of n addition on rhizosphere effects of two C4 grasses:smooth crabgrass(Digitaria ischaemum)and bermudagrass(Cynodon dactylon).Methods Plants were grown in nutrient-poor soil for 80 days with either 20 or 120μg nH4no3-n g dry soil−1.n mineralization rates,microbial biomass,extracellular enzyme activities and bacterial community structure were measured on both rhizosphere and bulk(unplanted)soils after plant *** Findings Fertilization showed nominal differences in net n mineralization,extracellular enzyme activity and microbial biomass between the rhizosphere and bulk soils,indicating minimal influence of n on rhizosphere ***,the presence of plant roots showed the strongest impact(up to 80%)on rates of net n mineralization and activities of three soil enzymes indicative of n release from organic *** component analysis of terminal restriction fragment length polymorphism(t-rFlP)also reflected these trends by highlighting the importance of plant roots in structuring the soil bacterial community,followed by plant species and n fertilization(to a minor extent).overall,the results indicate minor contributions of short-term n fertilization to changes in the magnitude of rhizos-phere effects for both grass species.

Micropeltidaceae species are flyspeck fungi which have been subjected to few systematic *** re-examined 27 genera which were accepted in the Micropeltidaceae and re-described them based on herbaria materials and *** on morphology and phylogenetic investigations,we transfer Micropeltidaceae to a new order,Micropeltidales(Lecanoromycetes).Genera with bluish or greenish upper walls(Dictyopeltella,Dictyothyriella,Dictyothyrina,Dictyothyrium,haplopeltheca,Micropeltis,Scolecopeltidium and Stomiopeltopsis)are accepted in the new taxonomic concept for Micropeltidaceae.A molecular clock approach estimated the divergence time of the Micropeltidaceae crown group at 130(165–104)Mya,which also supports its rank as an order(diverging from 220–100 Mya).The evolutionary histories between Micropeltidaceae species and host plants are interpreted by cophylogenetic analyses calibrated by their divergence *** result indicates that the diversification of Angiospermae(130–80 Mya)fosters the formation of genera of Micropeltidaceae mainly via cospeciation events,and this codivergent period would be an important reference when establishing generic boundaries of epifoliar fungi.

We purpose to determine the nationality of the European middle-distance athletes under 18 years(U18)and under 20 years(U20)during the last decade,to verify the participation trend for each country,and to assess whether the place of competition can be associated with the athletes ranking *** sample comprised 902 European male runners,ranked among the best finishers from 2009 to *** athletes were divided into two categories(n_(U18)=266;and n_(U20)=636)of two distances(n_(1500m)=397;n_(3000m)=505).The Mantel test was used for participation trend and the Chi-square test(χ^(2))was used to verify differences between the ranking position and the place of *** both distances,the highest number of athletes were from Spain(n=127),followed by Turkey(n=62)and Great Britain(n=50).no significant trends were shown for most of the countries,in both distances.A positive trend was shown for Slovenia(i.e.,3000m)over the years.A non-significant association was verified between the countries and the ranking position,as non-significant differences were proved for the place of *** information may be useful to guide athlete development programs in each country.
