On-line partial discharge(PD)monitoring is being increasingly adopted to improve the asset management and maintenance of medium-voltage(mV)*** study presents a novel method for autonomous analysis and classification of motor PD patterns in situations where a phase-reference voltage waveform is not *** main contributions include a polar PD(PPD)pattern and a fractal theory-based autonomous PD recognition *** pattern that is applied to convert the traditional phase-resolved PD pattern into a circular form addresses the lack of phase information in on-line PD monitoring *** fractal theory is then presented in detail to address the task of discrimination of 6 kinds of single source and 15 kinds of multi-source PD patterns related to motors,as outlined in IEC *** classification of known and unknown defects is calculated by a method known as centre *** of the proposed method is demonstrated using data from laboratory experiments on three typical PD *** study also discusses the application of the proposed techniques with 24 sets of on-site PD measurement data from 4 motors in 2 nuclear power *** results show that the proposed method performs effectively in recognising not only the single-source PD but also multi-source PDs.

Electron microscopy and defect analysis are a cornerstone of materials science,as they offer detailed insights on the microstructure and performance of a wide range of materials and material *** a robust and flexible platform for automated defect recognition and classification in electron microscopy will result in the completion of analysis orders of magnitude faster after images are recorded,or even online during image *** analysis has the potential to be significantly more efficient,accurate,and repeatable than human analysis,and it can scale with the increasingly important methods of automated data ***,an automated recognition tool is developed based on a computer vison–based approach;it sequentially applies a cascade object detector,convolutional neural network,and local image analysis *** demonstrate that the automated tool performs as well as or better than manual human detection in terms of recall and precision and achieves quantitative image/defect analysis metrics close to the human *** proposed approach works for images of varying contrast,brightness,and *** promising results suggest that this and similar approaches are worth exploring for detecting multiple defect types and have the potential to locate,classify,and measure quantitative features for a range of defect types,materials,and electron microscopic techniques.

RAD9 regulates multiple cellular processes that influence genomic integrity,and for at least some of its functions the protein acts as part of a heterotrimeric complex bound to HUS1 and RAD1 ***9 participates in DNA repair,including base excision repair,homologous recombination repair and mismatch repair,multiple cell cycle phase checkpoints and *** addition,functions including the transactivation of downstream target genes,immunoglobulin class switch recombination,as well as 3′–5′exonuclease activity have been *** RAD9 expression has been linked to breast,lung,thyroid,skin and prostate tumorigenesis,and a cause–effect relationship has been demonstrated for the latter ***,human RAD9 overproduction correlates with prostate cancer whereas deletion of mrad9,the corresponding mouse gene,in keratinocytes leads to skin *** results reveal that RAD9 protein can function as an oncogene or tumor suppressor,and aberrantly high or low levels can have deleterious health *** is not clear which of the many functions of RAD9 is critical for carcinogenesis,but several alternatives are considered herein and implications for the development of novel cancer therapies based on these findings are examined.

In order to prepare high toughness(Ti,Zr,Nb,Ta,mo)C ceramics at low temperatures while maintaining high hardness,a liquid-phase sintering process combined with Co-based liquid-phase extrusion strategy was adopted in this *** densification temperature can be lowered to 1350℃,which is much lower than the solid-state sintering temperature(~2000℃)generally employed for high-entropy carbide *** sintered at 1550℃and 30 mPa applied pressure,part of the Co-based liquid-phase was squeezed out of the graphite mold,such that only~3.21 vol%of Co remained in the high-entropy *** to the Co-free solid-state sintered(Ti,Zr,Nb,Ta,mo)C ceramics,prepared at 2000℃and 35 mPa,the hardness was slightly decreased from 25.06±0.32 to 24.11±0.75 GPa,but the toughness was increased from 2.25±0.22 to 4.07±0.13 mPa·m^(1/2).This work provides a new strategy for low-temperature densification of high-entropy carbides with both high hardness and high toughness.

Tissue engineering response may be tailored via controlled,sustained release of active agents from protein-loaded degradable microparticles incorporated directly within three-dimensional(3D)ice-templated collagen ***,the effects of covalent crosslinking during scaffold preparation on the availability and release of protein from the incorporated microparticles have not been ***,we load 3D ice-templated collagen scaffolds with controlled additions of poly-(DL-lactide-co-glycolide)*** probe the effects of subsequent N-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-N0-ethylcarbodiimide hydrochloride crosslinking on protein release,using microparticles with different internal protein *** isothiocyanate labelled bovine serum albumin is used as a model protein *** scaffolds display a homogeneous microparticle distribution,and a reduction in pore size and percolation diameter with increased microparticle addition,although these values did not fall below those reported as necessary for cell *** protein distribution within the microparticles,near the surface or more deeply located within the microparticles,was important in determining the release profile and effect of crosslinking,as the surface was affected by the carbodiimide crosslinking reaction applied to the *** of microparticles with a high proportion of protein at the surface caused both a reduction and delay in protein *** located within the bulk of the microparticles,was protected from the crosslinking reaction and no delay in the overall release profile was seen.

High Performance In Vivo Near-IR (>1 μm) Imaging and Photothermal Cancer Therapy with Carbon Nanotubes

Short single-walled carbon nanotubes(SWNTs)functionalized by PEGylated phospholipids are biologically non-toxic and long-circulating nanomaterials with intrinsic near infrared photoluminescence(NIR PL),characteristic Raman spectra,and strong optical absorbance in the near infrared(NIR).This work demonstrates the first dual application of intravenously injected SWNTs as photoluminescent agents for in vivo tumor imaging in the 1.0-1.4μm emission region and as NIR absorbers and heaters at 808 nm for photothermal tumor elimination at the lowest injected dose(70μg of SWNT/mouse,equivalent to 3.6 mg/kg)and laser irradiation power(0.6 W/cm2)reported to *** vivo resonance Raman imaging revealed the SWNT distribution within tumors at a high spatial *** tumor elimination was achieved for large numbers of photothermally treated mice without any toxic side effects after more than six months ***,side-by-side experiments were carried out to compare the performance of SWNTs and gold nanorods(AuNRs)at an injected dose of 700μg of AuNR/mouse(equivalent to 35 mg/kg)in NIR photothermal ablation of tumors in *** effective tumor elimination with SWNTs was achieved at 10 times lower injected doses and lower irradiation powers than for *** results suggest there are significant benefits of utilizing the intrinsic properties of biocompatible SWNTs for combined cancer imaging and therapy.

The eigenvalue problems of the buckling loads and natural frequencies of a braced beam on an elastic foundation are investigated. sented. The eigenvalues vary with the different The exact solutions for the eigenvalues are preparameters and are especially sensitive to the brace location. As the beam of a continuous system has infinite eigenvalues and these eigenvalues are influenced differently by a brace, the eigenvalues show rich variation patterns. Because these eigenvalues physically correspond to the structure buckling loads and natural frequencies, the study on the eigenvalues variation patterns can offer a design guidance of using a lateral brace of translation spring to strengthen the structure.
