Experiments on formation of spherical tokamak (ST) plasmas by electroncyclotron heating (ECH) alone without a central OH solenoid have been carried out on LATE (LowAspect ratio Torus Experiments). By injecting a 2.45 GHz microwave pulse of 6.3 kW for 4 seconds, aplasma current is initiated and ramped up to I_p approx= 3 kA, and finally maintained for 1 secondby adjusting the external vertical field. Magnetic measurements show that closed flux surfaces areformed and the last closed flux surface has an aspect ratio of A ～ 1.3 and an elongation of κ～1.3. The electron density measured by an interferometer is more than 1.5 x 10^(11) cm^(-3) whichexceeds twice of the plasma cut-off density, suggesting that electron cyclotron heating bymode-converted electron Bernstein waves may take place.

Objectives Left ventricular systolic dyssynchrony is the most important determinant of response to cardiac resynchronization therapy （CRT）, playing a vital role to predict improvement of systolic function or LV reverse remodeling. CardioGRAF is a novel programmer based on the ECG gated single photon emission computed tomography （G-SPECT） imaging to detect LV systolic and diastolic dyssynchrony simultaneously. This study was to investigate the prevalence of systolic and diastolic left ventricular （LV） dyssynchrony in patients with heart failure. Methods We retrospectively studied 69 patients with heart disease, including 31 patients who had symptoms of heart failure （NYHA class Ⅱ-Ⅲ）, and 38 patients who had no symptoms of heart failure. （NYHA class Ⅰ）. G- SPECT data were analyzed by cardiaGRAF, and measurements included the time to end systole （TES）, the time to peak ejection （TPE）, the time to peak filling （TPF）, TES＋TPF and maximal difference （MD） of each parameters were obtained, using the 95th percentile of the control group as a cutoffof 150 ms for MD-TES, 139 ms for MD-TPE, 345 ms for MD-TPF and 315 ms for MD-TES＋TPF. Results The prevalence of LV systolic dyssynchrony was significantly higher in heart failure patients with reduced LV ejection fraction （LVEF）〈45% （72% for MD-TES; 64% for MD-TPE） compared with heart failure patients with preserved LVEF=45% （14% for both MD-TES and MD-TPE; P=0.002, P=0.005, respectively）; The prevalence of MD-TES〈150 ms was higher in NYHA class Ⅲ patients （64%） compared with NYHA class Ilpatients （27%, P=0.049）. However, the prevalence of the LV diastolic dyssynchrony were high but not difference between NYHA class III（47% for both MD-TPF and MD-TES＋TPF） and class Ⅲ（63% for MD-TPF; 69% for MD-TES＋TPF; P=NS） patients as well as between patients with preserved LVEF （43% for both MD-TPF and MD-TES＋TPF） and patients with reduced LVEF（64% for MD-TPF; 72% for MD-TES＋TPF; P=NS）. In this study, we developed a new computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model called Airflow Analyst that deepens the affinity between CFD and geographic information system (GIS). First, a precise simulation of the surface-mounted cube was conducted. Validation testing based on the obtained data confirmed the predictive accuracy of Airflow Analyst. Second, New National Stadium Japan (Tokyo Olympic Stadium) was accurately reproduced in a computer, capturing the latest detailed urban area data for the base. For the target of the constructed 3D models, simulations with a large number of grid points/cells (CFD) were conducted. These simulations reproduced the complex turbulent flow fields both inside and outside the stadium. The experiment successfully reproduced the CFD simulation using a large number of grid points/cells, where the conditions of the wind flow ventilation from the sky were similar to those of the intended stadium design.

Recently, the issue has surfaced that the availability factors for wind farms built on complex terrain are lower than the originally projected values. In other words, problems have occurred such as extreme decreases in generation output, failures of components inside and outside wind turbines including yaw motors and yaw gears, and cracking on wind turbine blades. As one of the causes of such issues, the effects of wind turbulence (terrain-induced turbulence) have been pointed out. In this study, we investigated the effects of terrain-induced turbulence on the structural strength of wind turbines through the measurement of strains in wind turbine blades and the analysis of wind data in order to establish a method for optimal wind turbine deployment that uses numerically simulated wind data and takes the structural strength of wind turbines into consideration. The investigation was conducted on Wind Turbine #10 of the Kushikino Reimei Wind Farm (in operation since Nov. 2012) in cooperation with Kyudenko New Energy Co., Ltd. Subsequently, we conducted numerical wind simulations (diagnoses of terrain-induced turbulence) to study the effects of the properties of airflow on the structural strength of wind turbines. For these simulations, the natural terrain version of the RIAM-COMPACT software package, which is based on large eddy simulation (LES), was used. The numerical simulations successfully reproduced the characteristics of the wind conditions and the structure of the three-dimensional airflow. These results enabled us to determine the threshold value for a turbulence index to be used for optimal wind turbine deployment planning that utilizes quantitative data from simulations with the natural terrain version of the RIAM-COMPACT software package.

In this paper, we report on the first observation of blue-light emission bands from europium-doped tantalum pentoxide (Ta2O5:Eu) thin films prepared using a simple co-sputtering method. We prepared four specimens from one as-deposited sample, and we subsequently annealed them at 700°C, 800°C, 900°C, or 1000°C for 20 min. Four remarkable photoluminescence (PL) peaks at wavelengths of 600, 620, 650, and 700 nm due to the 5D0→7F1, 5D0→7F2, 5D0→7F3, and 5D0→7F4 transitions of Eu3+ were observed from all the specimens, and blue PL peaks around a wavelength of 450 nm were also observed from the specimens annealed at 800°C, 900°C, and 1000°C. The blue PL peaks seem to be originated from the 4f65d1→4f7 transition of Eu2+. Both Eu3+ and Eu2+ ions seem to exist in our Ta2O5:Eu co-sputtered thin films annealed at temperatures from 800°C to 1000°C. Such Ta2O5:Eu co-sputtered thin films seem to be used as multi-functional coating films having both anti-reflection and down-conversion effects for realizing high-efficiency silicon solar cells.

Benefit of laparoscopic liver resection in high body mass index patients

AIM: To explore the impact of body mass index(BMI) on surgical outcomes in patients undergoing laparoscopic liver resection(LLR).METHODS: From January 2010 to February 2015, sixty-eight patients who underwent primary partial liver resection in our institute were retrospectively reviewed. Surgical outcomes of LLR were compared with those of open liver resection(OLR). In addition, we analyzed associations with BMI and surgical ***: Among 68 patients, thirty-nine patients underwent LLR and 29 were performed OLR. Significant difference in operation time, blood loss, and postoperative hospital stay was observed. There were no signi ficant di fferences in mortali ty and morbidity in two groups. Twenty-two patients(32.4%) were classified as obese(BMI ≥ 25). A statistically significant correlation was observed between BMI and operation time, between BMI and blood loss in OLR, but not in LLR. The operation time and blood loss of OLR were significantly higher than that of LLR in obese patients. Open liver resection and BMI were independent predictors for prolonged operation time and increased blood loss in multivariate ***: The present study demonstrated that BMI had influenced to surgical outcomes of OLR. LLR was less influenced by BMI and had great benefit in obese patients.

We fabricated europium and cerium co-doped tantalum (V) oxide (Ta2O5: Eu, Ce) thin films using our co-sputtering method for the first time, and evaluated photoluminescence (PL) properties of the films after annealing at 600°C - 1100°C for 20 min. Four remarkable PL peaks at wavelengths of 600, 620, 700, and 705 nm were observed from the film annealed at 900°C. The intensities of the 700- and 705-nm peaks due to the 5D0 → 7F4 transition of Eu3+ were much stronger than those of the 600-nm (5D0 → 7F1) and 620-nm (5D0 → 7F2) peaks of the film annealed at 900°C. It seems that energy transfer from Ce3+ to Eu3+ occurs in the film, and much energy is selectively used for the 5D0 →7F4 and 5D0 →?7F1?transitions. Such a Ta2O5: Eu, Ce co-sputtered thin film seems to be used as a multi-functional coating film having both anti-reflection and down-conversion effects for realizing a high-efficiency silicon solar cell.

We prepared thulium-doped tantalum (V) oxide (Ta2O5:Tm) thin films using co-sputtering of two Tm2O3 pellets and a Ta2O5 disc, and we observed photoluminescence (PL) peaks not only around a wavelength of 800 nm due to the 3H4→3H6 transition of Tm3+ but also around a wavelength of 400 nm (violet) from the films after annealing for the first time. Comparatively narrow PL peaks around the wavelength of 400 nm were observed from the films annealed at 800°C and 900°C for 20 min. The peak intensity from the film annealed at 900°C was approximately four-times stronger than that from the film annealed at 800°C. The origin of the 400-nm peaks seems to be the same as our non-doped Ta2O5 thin films deposited using radio-frequency sputtering because we observe PL peaks around 400 - 430 nm from the Ta2O5 films. Such a Ta2O5:Tm co-sputtered thin film seems to be used as a multi-functional coating film having both anti-reflection and down-conversion effects for realizing a high-efficiency silicon solar cell.
