Aroma Profile of Myrrh and Its Thermal Variation

The authors examined the thermal change in the aroma profile of myrrh. The fresh odor of raw myrrh and its hexane extract depended on the amount of （E）-13-ocimene. Myrrh was extracted with hexane to avoid inducing changes in the constituents and odor. The main constituent, （E）-L3-ocimene （group A; low boiling point）, and the other constituents （group B; high boiling point） of the hexane extract were separated by bulb-to-bulb distillation. The constituents of groups A and B were analyzed over time by nuclear magnetic resonance analysis and the odors were evaluated. Myrrh＇s odor depended on both the amount of thermally unstable （E）-[3-ocimene, which contributed to the fresh odor, and the constituents of group B （thermally stable）, which contributed to the myrrh-like odor. Six compounds （c^-santalene, （Z）-a-bisabolene, c^-bergamotene, （E）-ct-santalal, c^-photosantalol and campherenol） were isolated from group B. No individual group B component had a myrrh-like odor, although the combined odor of group B was myrrh like. The authors demonstrated that the aroma profile of myrrh depends on the thermal instability of （E）-^-ocimene and a combination of six thermally stable terpenes with similar molecular structures.

Ultrasound plays an important role not only in preoperative diagnosis but also in intraoperative guidance for liver *** ultrasound(IOUS)has become an indispensable tool for modern liver surgeons,especially for minimally invasive surgeries,partially substituting for the surgeon’s *** fundamental mode,Doppler mode,contrast enhancement,elastography,and real-time virtual sonography,IOUS can provide additional real-time information regarding the intrahepatic anatomy,tumor site and characteristics,macrovascular invasion,resection margin,transection plane,perfusion and outflow of the remnant liver,and local ablation efficacy for both open and minimally invasive liver *** and localization of intrahepatic lesions and surrounding structures are crucial for performing liver resection,preserving the adjacent vital vascular and bile ducts,and sparing the functional liver *** ultrasound can provide critical information for intraoperative decision-making and ***,all liver surgeons must master IOUS techniques,and IOUS should be included in the training of modern liver *** investigation of the potential benefits and advances in these techniques will increase the use of IOUS in modern liver surgeries *** study comprehensively reviews the current use of IOUS in modern liver surgeries.

In this paper, a new hybrid algorithm based on exploration power of a new improvement self-adaptive strategy for controlling parameters in DE （differential evolution） algorithm and exploitation capability of Nelder-Mead simplex method is presented （HISADE-NMS）. The DE has been used in many practical cases and has demonstrated good convergence properties. It has only a few control parameters as number of particles （NP）, scaling factor （F） and crossover control （CR）, which are kept fixed throughout the entire evolutionary process. However, these control parameters are very sensitive to the setting of the control parameters based on their experiments. The value of control parameters depends on the characteristics of each objective function, therefore, we have to tune their value in each problem that mean it will take too long time to perform. In the new manner, we present a new version of the DE algorithm for obtaining self-adaptive control parameter settings. Some modifications are imposed on DE to improve its capability and efficiency while being hybridized with Nelder-Mead simplex method. To valid the robustness of new hybrid algorithm, we apply it to solve some examples of structural optimization constraints.

The proportion of elderly people rises in the developed countries. The increased susceptibility of the elderly to infectious diseases is caused by immune dysfunction, especially T cell functional decline. Age-related hematopoietic stem cells deviate from lymphoid lineage to myeloid lineage. Thymus shrinks early in life, which is followed by the decline of na?ve T cells. T-cell receptor repertoire diversity declines by aging, which is caused by cytomegalovirus-driven T cell clonal expansion. Functional decline of B cell induces antibody affinity declines by aging. Many effector functions including phagocytosis of myeloid cells are down regulated by aging. The studies of aging of myeloid cells have some controversial results. Although M1 macrophages have been shown to be replaced by antiinflammatory(M2) macrophages by advanced age, many human studies showed that pro-inflammatory cytokines are elevated in older human. To solve this discrepancy here we divide age-related pathological changes into two categories. One is an aging of immune cell itself. Second is involvement of immune cells to age-related pathological changes. Cellular senescence and damaged cells in aged tissue recruit pro-inflammatory M1 macrophages, which produce pro-inflammatory cytokines and proceed to agerelated diseases. Underlying biochemical and metabolic studies will open nutritional treatment.

AIM： To investigate the efficacy of angiotensin Ⅱ receptor antagonist on hepatic stellate cells （HSCs） activation in the patients with non-alcoholic steatohepatitis （NASH）. METHODS： Seven patients with NASH were prescribed Iosartan, a selective angiotensin Ⅱ type 1 receptor antagonist （50 mg/d） for 48 wk. Liver biopsies were performed both at the entry and end of the study in all patients. Quiescent and activated HSCs were identified by double immunostaining using anti-p75 and α-smooth muscle actin antibodies, and the number of each phenotype was counted. Similarly, the liver specimens obtained from the eight patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver （NAFL） were also examined as controls. RESULTS： In NASH hepatic tissues, activated HSCs were dominantly distributed as compared with those in NAFL. The 48-wk Iosartan treatment induced a remarkable decrease in activated HSCs and a mild increase in quiescent phenotypes. CONCLUSION： Our data suggest the crucial involvement of HSCs in anti-fibrotic effect of angiotensin Ⅱ receptor antagonist on patients with NASH.

The Japanese Orthopedic Association proposed a concept called locomotive syndrome (LS) to identify middle-aged and older adults at high risk of requiring health care services because of problems with locomotion-associated lower muscle mass. To prevent LS, it is important to increase muscle mass and muscle strength in middle-age by continuous resistance training. A total of 38 men and women were assessed at baseline and 6 months. Body composition, physical strength and salivary cortisol and cortisone were analyzed. The exercise intervention program was performed by individual muscle endurance level. Body weight, muscle weight and basal metabolism were increased after exercise intervention. The 30-second sit-up test and 3-minute walking were increased, and the 10-time sit-to-stand was decreased significantly. This may be related to increase of leg and abdominal muscular strength. The exercise intervention program increased salivary 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 2 (11β-HSD2) activities significantly. These results suggested that 11β-HDS2 became the index for the increase of muscular strength to prevent LS.

Turbulent premixed flames propagating in homogeneous isotropic turbulent flows were directly simulated with a single-step irreversible reaction. Simulations were made for three different density ratios: case H, high-density ratio of flame ρ/ρ=7.53, case M, middle-density ratio of flame ρ/ρ=5.00, and case L, low-density ratio of flame ρ/ρ=2.50, while U’/U was nearly equal to unity. By these simulations, we obtained databases of fully developed stationary turbulent flames. These databases were investigated by analyzing the transport equations for turbulent kinetic energy and turbulent scalar flux to study flame-generated turbulence and counter-gradient diffusion. It was found that turbulent fluctuations of all components, especially the streamwise component, were amplified in the flame brash, and that flame-generated turbulence increased for a larger density ratio of the flame. Analysis based on the Favre-averaged transport equation for turbulent kinetic energy showed that pressure related terms produced kinetic energy in the flame brash. On the other hand, the diffusion and dissipation term and velocity gradient term decreased kinetic energy. It was also proved that the counter-gradient diffusion dominated turbulent scalar flux in the flame region. The Favre-averaged transport equation for turbulent scalar flux was analyzed on the basis of DNS databases. It was shown that the mean pressure gradient term, the fluctuating pressure term and the velocity-reaction rate correlation term played important roles on the counter-gradient diffusion, while the mean velocity gradient term, the mean progress variable gradient term and dissipation terms suppressed it.
