Chinese rice wine making is a typical simultaneous saccharification and fermentation(SSF) *** the fermentation process,temperature is one of the key parameters which decide the quality of Chinese rice *** optimize the SSF process for Chinese rice wine brewing,the effects of temperature on the kinetic parameters of yeast growth and ethanol production at various temperatures were determined in batch cultures using a mathematical *** kinetic parameters as a function of temperature were evaluated using the software *** these functions with the mathematical model,an appropriate form of the model equations for the SSF considering the effects of temperature were *** kinetic parameters were found to fit the experimental data satisfactorily with the developed temperature-dependent *** temperature profile for maximizing the ethanol production for rice wine fermentation was determined by genetic *** optimum temperature profile began at a low temperature of 26 °C up to 30 *** operating temperature increased rapidly to 31.9 °C,and then decreased slowly to 18 °C at 65 ***,the temperature was maintained at18 °C until the end of fermentation.A maximum ethanol production of 89.3 g·L^(-1)was ***,our model would facilitate the improvement of Chinese rice wine production at the industrial scale.

In recent years there has been an increasing interest in the use of autohydrogenotrophic bacteria to treat nitrate from wastewater. however, our knowledge about the characteristics of extracellular polymeric substances（EPS） releasing by these activities is not yet very advanced. This study aimed to investigate the change in EPS compositions under various p h values and hydrogen flow rates, taking into consideration nitrogen removal. Results showed that p h 7.5 and a hydrogen flow rate of 90 m L/min were the optimal operating conditions, resulting in 100% nitrogen removal after 6 hr of operation. Soluble and bound polysaccharides decreased, while bound proteins increased with increasing p h. Polysaccharides increased with increasing hydrogen flow rate. No significant change of bound proteins was observed at various hydrogen flow rates.

A new spherical torus called VEST （Versatile Experiment Spherical Torus） is designed, constructed and successfully commissioned at Seoul National University. A unique design feature of the VEST is two partial solenoid coils installed at both vertical ends of a center stack, which can provide sufficient magnetic fluxes to initiate tokamak plasmas while keeping a low aspect ratio configuration in the central region. According to initial double null merging start-up scenario using the partial solenoid coils, apprdpriate p6wer supplies for driving a toroidal field coil, outer poloidal field coils, and the partial solenoid Coils are fabricated and successfully commissioned. For reliable start-up, a pre-ionization system with two cost-effective homemade magnetron power supplies is also prepared. In addition, magnetic and spectroscopic diagnostics with appropriate data acquisition and control systems are well prepared for initial operation of the device. The VEST is ready for tokamak plasma operation by completing and commissioning most of the designed components.

Background:Benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPh)is a common condition in middle-aged and elderly *** of the prostate causes lower urinary tract *** is a phytochemical extracted from chili peppers and exerts many pharmacological actions,such as anti-tumor and anti-inflammatory ***:Our study investigated the effect of capsaicin in vitro and in a mouse model in vivo.A prostatic stromal myofibroblast cell line(WPMY-1)was co-incubated with testosterone(1µM)and different concentrations of capsaicin(10–100µM)for 24 and 48 ***(10–100µM)significantly inhibited testosterone-treated WPMY-1 cell growth at 48 h by MTT *** testosterone propionate(7.5 mg/kg)-induced BPh mouse model was used to examine the anti-proliferative effect of *** with capsaicin(10 mg/kg)for 14 days significantly attenuated prostatic *** was used as a positive ***:Capsaicin significantly decreased prostate weight and prostate index(prostate/body weight ratio)in BPh *** expression of 5α-reductase type II,androgen receptor(AR)and prostate specific antigen(PSA)protein expression and PSA serum were all significantly reduced in capsaicin-treated BPh *** addition,capsaicin also activated transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 mediated apoptosis and autophagy in BPh ***:These results demonstrate multiple positive effects of capsaicin in controlling prostate growth and suggest its therapeutic potential in the treatment of BPh.

background This study evaluates the validity of Alvarado Score in predicting disease severity and the development of postoperative complications in pediatric *** This is a retrospective,bicentered study on pediatric patients with emergency appendicectomy performed from 2006 to *** relationship of Alvarado Score(low:1-4,medium:5-6,high:7-10)and operative findings/complications was *** A total of 316 patients were included and the median age on admission was 10.8 *** overall median score was 8.***.13.3%,20.2%,and 66.5%of patients had low,medium,and high risk scores,respectively.36.1%of patients had complicated appendicitis and the median score was comparable with that of the uncomplicated cases(7.0 vs 7.4,p=0.21).More complicated cases were found in the medium-risk group(high vs medium vs low=29.7%vs 61.4%vs 31.0%,p=0.01).Rebound tenderness had the highest positive predictive value(65%)for complicated *** complications were found in 16.5%of patients with a higher median score(7.87 vs 5.8,p=0.01).Conclusion Alvarado Score does not predict disease severity but postoperative *** with medium risk score should also be treated promptly for the risk of having complicated *** tenderness may be a signal for complicated appendicitis and should be properly examined.

Transistor size is constantly being reduced to improve performance as well as power consumption. For the channel length to be reduced, the corresponding gate dielectric thickness should also be reduced. Unfortunately, graphene devices are more complicated due to an extra capacitance called quantum capacitance (C Q) which limits the effective gate dielectric reduction. In this work, we analyzed the effect of C Q on device-scaling issues by extracting it from scaling of the channel length of devices. In contrast to previous reports for metal-insulator-metal structures, a practical device structure was used in conjunction with direct radio-frequency field-effect transistor measurements to describe the graphene channels. In order to precisely extract device parameters, we reassessed the equivalent circuit, and concluded that the on-state model should in fact be used. By careful consideration of the underlap region, our device modeling was shown to be in good agreement with the experimental data. C Q contributions to equivalent oxide thickness were analyzed in detail for varying impurity concentrations in graphene. Finally, we were able to demonstrate that despite contributions from C Q, grapheme’s high mobility and low-voltage operation allows for graphene channels suitable for next generation transistors.
