China＇s outward FDI has been increasing recently, as the country＇s policies over industrialization and national security change. Using financial data of 244 Chinese enterprises, this study empirically investigates the patterns and determinants of China＇s outward FDI from 2001 to 2008 for its seven major destinations. Tobit and multiple regression analyses indicate that early Chinese FDI in 2001 and 2002 is concentrated in the labor-intensive industries in Asia, like those of early Japanese FDI in the early 1970s as well as those of Korean FDI in 1990s. The results also indicate that non-production oriented manufacturers invested in North America, in order to seek for market cultivation, technological advance, R＆D skills, and name brands. We also found that the central state-owned enterprises are the key FDI players in the continents with locational disadvantages

Novel technologies have been necessary for improving fruit quality and productivity of citrus,labor-saving and orchard conservation on steep slope lands since aging of growers and decrease in the number of successors is remarkable in mountain areas of southwestern *** purpose of this paper is to introduce new technologies for improving citrus production that have been developed in recent years.A new fruit quality control system using drip irrigation and liquid fertilization technique combined with year-round plastic mulching was developed,and it enables high quality and stable citrus fruit *** and/or nutrient solution is automatically supplied through drip tubes that are laid under the mulching sheets to give adequate water stress,so as to improve sugar and acid content of fruit.A new transportation system for steep sloping citrus orchards,which is a combination of the monorail system and contour narrow paths,was suggested.A small walking cultivator was developed to explain the procedure of narrow path *** introducing the narrow path,working hours for fertilizer and chemical herbicide application were *** prevention mapping of citrus orchards on slope lands was developed based on computer-aided seepage estimation and topographic *** mapping can show zones of both ascending flow and descending flow of underground water during heavy rains in citrus *** mapping is considered to be effective for the management of orchards and prevention of erosion on slope lands.

AIM:To construct and evaluate a new non-invasive fibrosis index for assessment of the stage of liver f ibrosis. METHODS:A new f ibrosis index (Fibro-Stiffness index) was developed in 165 of 285 patients with chronic hepatitis C, and was validated in the other 120 patients where liver biopsy was performed. Its usefulness was compared with liver stiffness (LS) measured by FibroScan, the aminotransferase-to-platelet ratio index, the Forns index and the FibroIndex. RESULTS: The Fibro-Stiffness index consists of LS,platelet count and prothrombin time. The values of the Fibro-Stiffness index differed signif icantly between neighboring f ibrosis stages except F0-F1. The area under the receiver operating characteristics curves of the Fibro-Stiffness index for prediction of F≥2 (0.90), F≥ 3 (0.90) and F= 4(0.92) in the estimation group and those for F≥ 3 (0.93) and F =4 (0.97) in the validation group were the highest among the 5 methods examined. The accuracy of the Fibro-Stiffness index had highest values for F≥2, F≥3 and F=4 in both the estimation and validation groups. The diagnostic performance for F= 4 was improved by a combination of the Fibro-Stiffness index with serum hyaluronic acid level. CONCLUSION: The Fibro-Stiffness index was constructed and validated. It showed superior diagnostic performance to other indices for F ≥ 2,3 and 4.

Introduction: We report the results of a prospective study of long-tern treatment with single-agent thalidomide in patients who had responded in a preceding trial of the use of thalidomide for relapsed/refractory myeloma. Patients and Methods: Nineteen patients were enrolled: 11 patients (57.9%) treated at a dosage of 100 mg/day;2 patients (10.5%) at a dosage of 200 mg/day;2 patients (10.5%) at a dosage of 300 mg/day;and 4 patients (21.1%) at a dosage of 400 mg/day. The median follow-up from the start of the preceding study was 3.0 years. At the time of entry to this study, 5 patients (26.3%) had partial response (PR), another 5 patients (26.3%) had a minimal response (MR), and the remaining 9 patients (47.4%) had shown no change (NC). Results: The cumulative MR rate was 78.9% (at the 32nd week) and the cumulative PR rate was 47.4% (at the 112th week). The median progression-free survival was 104 weeks and the median time to next treatment was 144 weeks. No patients experienced grade 4 or greater hematologic toxicity or grade 3 or greater non-hematologic toxicity. Conclusion: Long-term thalidomide maintenance therapy induced an increase in response rate, suppressed the progression to active myeloma without severe adverse events, and contributed to long survival with good activities of daily living.

With recent developments in nanoscience and nanotechnology, carbon-based nanomaterials, such as carbon nanotubes or Fullerene nanowhiskers (FNWs), are attracting a great deal of interest. However, nanomaterials have novel properties that may cause safety problems in biological systems. Although the toxic effects of multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) in vitro and in vivo have been well described, the effect of FNWs on cells remains unclear. In the present study, we analyzed the gene expression and cytotoxicity of FNWs-treated cells. The results of cell viabil-ity and gene expression analysis indicate that FNWs has a relatively smaller ability to induce cellular gene expression as compared with MWCNTs or titania nanoparticles. Our results suggest that FNWs have weak cytotoxic effects as compared to the effects of MWCNTs and tita-nia nanoparticles.

我们从南朝鲜七个有代表性的金矿床中挑选十块标本进行K-Ar年龄测定.从与金井矿床含金白岗岩脉有关的伟晶岩中分离出来的微斜长石测出的年龄为晚元古代.从天安地区浩美、天宝和南仓三矿床的矿石和有关的伟晶岩中采集的白云母的年龄为130～160百万年,进一步证实了该区的金矿化时代为中侏罗-晚侏罗世.无极、林川和居昌三矿床绢云母的测定结果为100百万年左右.这些成果加上从文献中收集到的数据表明南朝鲜在目前剥蚀面上出露的大部分贵金属、贱金属和重金属矿床形成于白垩纪时期,与Bulgugsa长英质岩浆活动有成因联系.
