Hepatotoxic Chinese Medicinal Herbs:a literature Review

Hepatic impairment resulting from the use of botanicals is widely recognized.Along with the increasing use of Chinese Medicinal herbs in nowadays,their hepatotoxicity has raised extensive concerns.However,lack of objective diagnosis standard and the complexity of CMH formulae make it difficult to identify CMH-induced hepatotoxicity and the culprit herbs.Therefore,it is crucial to review current information on the potentially hepatotoxic CMHs to heighten clinical awareness and facilitate further studies.A working group of CMH-induced liver injury in Hong Kong Hospital Authority has been formed to conduct this work.

Design and synthesis of low bandgap(LBG) polymer donors is inevitably challenging and their processability from a non-halogenated solvent system remains a hurdle to overcome in the area of highperformance polymer solar cells(PSCs).Due to a high aggregation tendency of LBG polymers,especially diketopyrrolopyrrole(DPP)-based polymers coupled with bithiophenes in the polymer backbones,their widespread adoption in non-ha logena ted solvent-processed PSCs has been limited.Herein,a novel LBG DPP-based polymer,called PDPP4 T-1 F with asymmetric arrangement of fluorine atom,has been successfully synthesized and showed an outstanding power conversion efficiency(PCE) of 10.10% in a singlejunction fullerene-based PSCs.Furthermore,an impressive PCE of 13.21% has been achieved in a tandem device from a fully non-halogenated solvent system,which integrates a wide bandgap PDTBTBz-2 F polymer in the bottom cell and LBG PDPP4 T-1 F polymer in the top cell.The achieved efficiency is the highest value reported in the literature to date in fullerene-based tandem PSCs.We found that a uniformly distributed interpenetrating fibril network with nano-scale phase separation and anisotropy of the polymer backbone orientation for efficient charge transfer/transport and suppressed charge recombination in PDPP4 T-1 F-based PSCs led to outstanding PCEs in single and tandem-junction PSCs.

2019年1月24日,我带着家人在日本福冈市区逛着,突然看到路边公交车广告牌写着"DOLBY CINEMAS本初、博多发"难道日本第一家杜比影院就在福冈?我有一个习惯,出差有空的话,会尽量的安排看场电影,尤其异国他乡,一来了解当地的电影院状况,算是职业需求,二来看电影就是我最大的爱好。但本次来日本旅游,拖家带口,我没有动这个心思提前做计划……地球这么大,日本也不小,偏偏就给我瞎逛遇到日本首家杜比影院,不看场电影好像对不起自己?但我一个人跑去看电影,好像对不起家人(妹妹太小看不了),内心一直在争斗……

The interfaces between the inorganic metal oxide and organic photoactive layer are of outmost importance for efficiency and stability in organic solar cells(OSCs).Tin oxide(SnO_(2))is one of the promising candidates for the electron transport layer(ETL)in high-performance inverted OSCs.When a solution-processed SnO_(2)ETL is employed,however,the presence of interfacial defects and suboptimal interfacial contact can lower the power conversion efficiency(PCE)and operational stability of OSCs.Herein,highly efficient and stable inverted OSCs by modification of the SnO_(2)surface with ultraviolet(UV)-curable acrylate oligomers(SAR and OCS)are demonstrated.The highest PCEs of 16.6%and 17.0%are achieved in PM6:Y6-BO OSCs with the SAR and OCS,respectively,outperforming a device with a bare SnO_(2)ETL(PCE 13.8%).The remarkable enhancement of PCEs is attributed to the optimized interfacial contact,leading to mitigated surface defects.More strikingly,improved light-soaking and thermal stability strongly correlated with the interfacial defects are demonstrated for OSCs based on SnO_(2)/UV cross-linked resins compared to OSCs utilizing bare SnO_(2).We believe that UV cross-linking oligomers will play a key role as interfacial modifiers in the future fabrication of large-area and flexible OSCs with high efficiency and stability.

BACKGROUND Although much information is available regarding hepatitis C virus infection and diabetes,less is known about the relationship between hepatitis A virus(HAV)infection and diabetes.AIM To examine the roles of HAV in diabetes risk.METHODS This cross-sectional study population included data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey collected between 2005-2012.Adult subjects(≥20 years old)with available body mass index measurements,defined diabetes status,history of HAV vaccination,and HAV serology were included.HAV vaccination was based on self-reported history.Successful HAV immunization was defined as the presence of both vaccination and anti-HAV antibody.HAV infection was defined by the absence of vaccination but presence of anti-hepatitis A antibody.The odds ratio(OR)for diabetes with 95%confidence intervals(95%CI)was calculated for each HAV status and then adjusted for covariates.Sensitivity tests,based on different definitions of diabetes,were performed to verify the results.RESULTS Among 19942 subjects,4229 subjects(21.21%)received HAV vaccination and HAV antibody was present in 9224 subjects(46.25%).Although HAV infection was associated with an increased risk of diabetes(OR:1.13;95%CI:1.08-1.18),HAV vaccination was not associated with diabetes(OR:1.06;95%CI:0.95-1.18),and successful HAV immunization had no impact on the risk of diabetes(OR:1.11;95%CI:0.97-1.27).Thus,HAV infection was an unlikely cause of diabetes.Alternatively,in non-vaccinated subjects,diabetes increased the risk of HAV infection by 40%(OR:1.40,95%CI:1.27-1.54).CONCLUSION An association between HAV infection and diabetes is observed which is best explained by an increased risk of HAV infection in diabetic patients.Diabetic subjects are more susceptible to HAV.Thus,HAV vaccination is highly recommended in diabetic patients.

Multiscale analysis of composite material reinforced by randomly-dispersed particles

A multiscale analysis method is presented in which detailed information on the microscopic level is incorporated into macroscopic models capable of simulating damage evolution and ultimate failure.The composite considered is reinforced by randomly-dispersed particles,which reflects the statistical characteristics of real materials,such as cement-based materials.Specifically,a three-dimensional material body is decomposed into many unit cells.Each unit cell is reinforced by a cylindrical particle,the orientation of which is characterized by three Euler angles generated by the random number generator.Based on a detailed finite element analysis,the material properties of the representative volume element are obtained.As verification,the properties of the cylindrical particles are set equal to those of the matrix and the computed‘composite’properties reduce exactly to those of the‘isotropic’material,as expected.Through coordinate transformation,the effective material properties of each unit cell are calculated.The assembly of stiffness matrices of all unit cells leads to the stiffness matrix of the whole specimen.Under the simple tension loading condition,the initial damaged unit cell can be identified according to the vonMises yield criterion.The stiffness of the damaged unit cell will then be reduced to zero and it will cause stress redistribution and trigger further damage.It was found that the reinforcement is effective to mitigate and arrest the damage propagation,and therefore prolongs the material’s lifetime.These results suggest that the hierarchical coupling approaches used here may be useful for material design and failure protection in composites.
