Appendiceal mucocele: Case reports and review of current literature

The mucocele of the appendix is an uncommon disorder which is often asymptomatic but sometimes causes acute appendicitis-like symptoms. Sometimes, patients with mucocele can present with confusing symptoms. Preoperative suspicion and diagnosis of appendiceal mucocele are important. Ultrasonography and computed tomography are useful tools for the diagnosis of appendiceal mucocele. It may be also recognised by colonoscopy as a smooth submucosal lesion of the cecum. Optima management of the mucocele could be achieved through accurate preoperative diagnosis. Preoperative diagnosis is a major component for minimizing intra-operative and post-operative complications. We herein report five cases and discuss the diagnostic methods and surgical treatment.

Lipoma within an inverted Meckel's diverticulum presen- ting with hemorrhage and partial intestinal obstruction is an exceptional clinical entity. We report a case of 47-year-old male with a history of recurrent episodes of partial intestinal obstruction and melena due to a subserosal lipoma located in the base of an inverted Meckel's diverticulum. According to our knowledge, this is the first case of a lipoma within a Meckel's diverticulum giving rise to this clinical scenario without the existence of heterotrophic gastric or pancreatic tissues.

AIM: To investigate the gastroprotective effect of vardenafil against indomethacin-induced gastric damage. METHODS: Forty-eight female Wistar albino rats were randomly divided into 6 groups. Group 1 received saline only. Group 2 (indomethacin) received indomethacin. Rats in group 3 and 4 were pretreated with different doses of famotidine. Group 5 and 6 were pretreated with different doses of vardenafil. Rats in groups 3 to 6 received 25 mg/kg indomethacin 30 min after pretreatment. The animals were sacrificed 6 h later and their stomachs were opened. Gastric lesions were counted and measured. The stomach of each animal was divided in two parts for histopathological examinations and nitric oxide (NO) and malondialdehyde (MDA) assays, respectively. RESULTS: There were no gastric mucosal lesion in the saline group but all rats in the indomethacin group had gastric mucosal ulcerations (ulcer count; 6.25 ± 3.49, and mean ulcer area; 21.00 ± 12.35). Ulcer counts werediminished with famotidine 5 mg/kg (4.12 ± 2.47, P > 0.05), 20 mg/kg (2.37 ± 4.43, P < 0.05), vardenaf il 2 mg/kg (4.37 ± 3.06), and vardenafil 10 mg/kg (1.25 ± 1.38, P < 0.05) compared to the indomethacin group. Gastric mucosal lesion areas were diminished with famotidine 5 mg/kg (8.62 ± 2.97, P < 0.001), famotidine 20 mg/kg (0.94 ± 2.06, P < 0.001), vardenafil 2 mg/kg (6.62 ± 5.87, P < 0.001), and vardenafil 10 mg/kg (0.75 ± 0.88, P < 0.001) compared to the indomethacin group. MDA levels were signif icantly higher in indometh-acin group (28.48 ± 14.51), compared to the famotidine 5 mg/kg (6,21 ± 1.88, P < 0.05), famotidine 20 mg/kg (5.88 ± 1.60. P < 0.05), vardenaf il 2 mg/kg (15.87 ± 3.93, P < 0.05), and vardenafil 10 mg/kg (10.97 ± 4.50, P < 0.05). NO concentration in gastric tissues of the fa-motidine groups were significantly increased (P < 0.05), but the NO increases in the vardenafil groups were not statistically significant. AIM： To evaluate the frequency of neural cell adhesion molecule （NCAM）-180 expression in fresh tumor tissue samples and to discuss the prognostic value of NCAM-180 in routine clinical practice.METHODS： Twenty-six patients （16 men, 10 women） with colorectal cancer were included in the study. Fresh tumor tissue samples and macroscopically healthy proximal margins of each specimen were subjected to flow-cytometric analysis for NCAM-180 expression.RESULTS： Flow-cytometric analysis determined NCAM-180 expression in whole tissue samples of macroscopically healthy colorectal tissues. However, NCAM-180 expression was positive in only one case （3.84%） with well-differentiated Stage Ⅱ disease who experienced no active disease at 30 months follow-up. CONCLUSION： As a consequence of the limited number of cases in our series, it might not be possible to make a generalisation, nevertheless the routine use of NCAM-180 expression as a prognostic marker for colorectal carcinoma seems to be unfeasible and not cost-effective in clinical practice due to its very low incidence.

AIM： TO investigate the effect of exogenous erythro- poietin （EPO） administration on acute lung injury （ALI） in an experimental model of sodium taurodeoxycholate- induced acute necrotizing pancreatitis （ANP）. METHODS： Forty-seven male Wistar albino rats were randomly divided into 7 groups： sham group （n = 5）, 3 ANP groups （n = 7 each） and 3 EPO groups （n = 7 each）. ANP was induced by retrograde infusion of 5% sodium taurodeoxycholate into the common bile duct. Rats in EPO groups received 1000 U/kg intramuscular EPO immediately after induction of ANP. Rats in ANP groups were given 1 mL normal saline instead. All animals were sacrificed at postoperative 24 h, 48 h and 72 h. Serum arnilase, IL-2, IL-6 and lung tissue malondialdehyde （MDA） were measured. Pleural effusion volume and lung/body weight （LW/BW） ratios were calculated. Tissue levels of TNF-a, IL-2 and IL-6 were screened immunohistochemically. Additionally, ox-LDL accumulation was assessed with immune-fluorescent staining. Histopathological alterations in the lungs were also ***： The mean pleural effusion volume, calculated LW/BW ratio, serum IL-6 and lung tissue MDA levels were significantly lower in EPO groups than in ANP groups. No statistically significant difference was observed in either serum or tissue values of IL-2 among the groups. The level of tumor necrosis factor-（~ （TNF-（~） and IL-6 and accumulation of ox-LDL were evident in the lung tissues of ANP groups when compared to EPO groups, particularly at 72 h. Histopathological evaluation confirmed the improvement in lung injury parameters a^er exogenous EPO administration, particularly at 48 h and 72 h. CONCLUSION： EPO administration leads to a significant decrease in ALI parameters by inhibiting polymorphonuclear leukocyte （PMNL） accumulation, decreasing the levels of proinflammatory cytokines in circulation, preserving microvascular endothelial cell integrity and reducing oxidative stress-associated lipid peroxidation and therefore, can

Parkinson’s disease is a serious disease that causes ***,a new dataset has been introduced on this *** aim of this study is to improve the predictive performance of the model designed for Parkinson’s disease *** and large,original DNN models were designed by using specific or random number of neurons and *** study analyzed the effects of parameters,i.e.,neuron number and activation function on the model performance based on growing and pruning *** other words,this study addressed the optimum hidden layer and neuron numbers and ideal activation and optimization functions in order to find out the best Deep Neural Networks *** this context of this study,several models were designed and *** overall results revealed that the Deep Neural Networks were significantly successful with 99.34%accuracy value on test ***,it presents the highest prediction performance reported so ***,this study presents a model promising with respect to more accurate Parkinson’s disease diagnosis.

Resin flow correction control with electromagnetic field source, a new variation of the vacuum-assisted resin transfer molding (VARTM) process called electromagnetically induced preform resting (EIPR) for dynamical resin flow controlling is introduced to manipulate the flow front and local permeability to prevent the formation of dry spots. This paper proposes an active and real-time flow control approach that is implemented during the composite laminate infusion. The EIPR process applies an electromagnetic field source to pinch (raise) and vibrate the upper flexible mold to rest the fiber preform and increase the local permeability. Vibration action delivers the fluid through the preform. The EIPR process includes a new and creative upper flexible vacuum bag with embedded elements to lift and create local vibrations via an automated gantry system. The control methodology is performed by tracking the flow front with a real-time correction. System capability is demonstrated with three configurations of preform of different preform permeabilities in each experiment. A low permeability preform is employed in these configurations to disturb the flow pattern and cause an artificial problem or pseudo problem during the filling process. The results indicate that this system fills the mold completely and reduces the filling time without any dry spots and therefore creates no waste material.

The popularity of news,which conveys newsworthy events which occur during day to people,is substantially important for the spectator or *** interact with news website and share news links or their *** study uses supervised learning based machine learning techniques in order to predict news popularity in social media *** techniques consist of basically two phrases:a)the training data is sent as input to the classifier algorithm,b)the performance of prelearned algorithm is tested on the testing *** so,a knowledge discovery from the data is *** this context,firstly,twelve datasets from a set of data are obtained within the frame of four categories:Economic,Microsoft,Obama and ***,news popularity prediction in social network services is carried out by utilizing Gradient Boosted Trees,Multi-Layer Perceptron and Random Forest learning *** prediction performances of all algorithms are examined by considering Mean Absolute Error,Root Mean Squared Error and the R-squared evaluation *** results show that most of the models designed by using these algorithms are proved to be applicable for this ***,a comprehensive study for the news prediction is presented,using different techniques,drawing conclusions about the performances of algorithms in this study.
