Parapatric speciation with recurrent gene flow of two sexual dichromatic pheasants

Understanding speciation has long been a fundamental goal of evolutionary *** is widely accepted that speciation requires an interruption of gene flow to generate strong reproductive isolation between *** mechanism of how speciation in sexually dichromatic species operates in the face of gene flow remains an open *** species in the genus Chrysolophus,the Golden Pheasant(***)and Lady Amherst’s Pheasant(***),both of which exhibit significant plumage dichromatism,are currently parapatric in southwestern China with several hybrid recordings in *** this study,we estimated the pattern of gene flow during the speciation of the two pheasants using the Approximate Bayesian Computation(ABC)method based on data from multiple *** a newly assembled de novo genome of Lady Amherst’s Pheasant and resequencing of widely distributed individuals,we reconstructed the demographic history of the two pheasants by the PSMC(pairwise sequentially Markovian coalescent)*** results provide clear evidence that the gene flow between the two pheasants was consistent with the predictions of the isolation with migration model during divergence,indicating that there was long-term gene flow after the initial divergence(ca.2.2 million years ago).The data further support the occurrence of secondary contact between the parapatric populations since around 30 kya with recurrent gene flow to the present,a pattern that may have been induced by the population expansion of the Golden Pheasant in the late *** results of the study support the scenario of speciation between the Golden Pheasant and Lady Amherst’s Pheasant with cycles of mixing-isolation-mixing,possibly due to the dynamics of geographical context in the late *** two species provide a good research system as an evolutionary model for testing reinforcement selection in speciation.

Mechanisms for the link between onset and duration of open water in the Kara Sea

The sea ice conditions in the Kara Sea have important impacts on Arctic shipping,oil and gas production,and marine environmental *** this study,sea ice coverage(C_(R))less than 30%is considered as open water,its onset and end dates are defined as T_(open)and T_(close),*** sea ice melt onset(T_(melt))is defined as the date when ice-sea freshwater flux initially changes from ice into the ***-based sea ice concentration(SIC)from 1989 to 2019 shows a negative correlation between T_(open)and T_(close)(r=-0.77,p<0.01)in the Kara *** phenomenon is also obtained through analyzing the hindcast simulation from 1994 to 2015 by a coupled ocean and sea-ice model(NAPA1/4).The model results reveal that thermodynamics dominate the sea ice variations,and ice basal melt is greater than the ice surface *** budget estimation suggests that the heat flux is significant correlated with T_(open)(r=-0.95,p<0.01)during the melt period(the duration of multi-year averaged T_(melt)to T_(open))influenced by the sea ice ***,this heat flux is also suggested to dominate the interannual variation of the heat input during the whole heat absorption process(r=0.81,p<0.01).The more heat input during this process leads to later T_(close)(r=0.77,p<0.01).This is the physical basis of the negative correlation between T_(open)and T_(close).Therefore,the duration of open water can be predicted by T_(open)and thence support earlier planning of marine activities.

Runjing extract promotes spermatogenesis in rats with ornidazole-induced oligoasthenoteratozoospermia through extracellular signal-regulated kinase signalling,and regulating vimentin expression

OBJECTIVE:To investigate the efficacy of Runjing(RJ)extract on oligoasthenoteratozoospermia(OAT)induced by ornidazole(ORN)in rats,and to study the underlying ***:Twenty-four adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were treated with normal saline(control),ORN(OAT model),ORN+4.725 g-dose)and ORN+18.9 g·kg^(-1)·d^(-1) RJ extract(low·kg^(-1)·d^(-1) RJ extract(high-dose)for 4 *** rats were then euthanized and sperm and testis samples were collected for *** count,motility and morphology were calculated by sperm suspension from cauda *** histopathological changes were analyzed by hematoxylin and eosin staining and Td T mediated d UTP nick end ***,the expression of vimentin and extracellular signal-regulated kinase(ERK)were examined through Western blot,and the distribution of vimentin was detected via ***:ORN successfully induces seminiferous epithelium injury,cellular apoptosis,and finally OAT(P<0.05).However,both low-dose and highdose RJ extract partially rescues the altered phenotypes(P<0.05).Moreover,the expressions of vimentin and ERK were significantly altered in ORN testes(all P<0.001),while RJ extract partially reversed these effects(P<0.01 or P<0.001).CONCLUSION:RJ extract can help maintain spermatogenesis through ERK signalling,and regulating vimentin expression.

DNA Barcoding and Mini-DNA Barcoding Reveal Mislabeling of Salmonids in Different Distribution Channels in the Qingdao Area

There is an increasing demand for salmonid authentication due to the globalization of the salmonid *** barcoding and mini-DNA barcoding are widely used for identifying fish species based on a fragment of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I(COI)*** this study,rainbow trout(Oncorhynchus mykiss),steelhead trout(***),and Atlantic salmon(Salmo salar)collected from two salmonid aquaculture bases in China were authenticated by DNA barcoding(about 650 bp)and mini-DNA barcoding(127 bp)to evaluate the accuracy of the two methods in the identification of different salmonid *** results revealed that both methods could effectively distinguish *** and *** with 100%***,the two methods failed to separate rainbow trout(***)and steelhead trout(***),which are the same species but cultured in different water ***,salmonid samples from three main distribution channels in the Qingdao area(traditional supermarkets,online supermarkets,and sushi bars)were identified by the two *** of *** with *** was discovered,and the 27.78%overall substitution rate of salmonids in the Qingdao area was higher than those in other regions reported in previous *** addition,the mislabeling rates of salmonids from traditional supermarkets,online supermarkets,and sushi bars were compared in this *** mislabeling rate was significantly greater in sushi bars(50%)than in the other two channels(16.67%),suggesting that stronger monitoring and enforcement measures are necessary for the aquatic food catering industry.

Evolution of groundwater recharge-discharge balance in the Turpan Basin of China during 1959-2021

Groundwater overexploitation is a serious problem in the Turpan Basin,Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China,causing groundwater level declines and ecological and environmental problems such as the desiccation of karez wells and the shrinkage of *** on historical groundwater data and field survey data from 1959 to 2021,we comprehensively studied the evolution of groundwater recharge and discharge terms in the Turpan Basin using the groundwater equilibrium method,mathematical statistics,and GIS spatial *** reasons for groundwater overexploitation were also *** results indicated that groundwater recharge increased from 14.58×10^(8)m^(3)in 1959 to 15.69×10^(8)m^(3)in 1980,then continued to decrease to 6.77×10^(8)m^(3)in *** discharge increased from 14.49×10^(8)m^(3)in 1959 to 16.02×10^(8)m^(3)in 1989,while continued to decrease to 9.97×10^(8)m^(3)in *** 1980,groundwater recharge-discharge balance has been broken,the decrease rate of groundwater recharge exceeded that of groundwater discharge and groundwater recharge was always lower than groundwater discharge,showing in a negative equilibrium,which caused the continuous decrease in groundwater level in the Turpan *** 1980 to 2002,groundwater overexploitation increased rapidly,peaking from 2003 to 2011 with an average overexploitation rate of 4.79×10^(8)m^(3)/a;then,it slowed slightly from 2012 to 2021,and the cumulative groundwater overexploitation was 99.21×10^(8)m^(3)during *** research can provide a scientific foundation for the restoration and sustainable use of groundwater in the overexploited areas of the Turpan Basin.

Effects of inclination angles of disc cutter on machining quality of Nomex honeycomb core in ultrasonic cutting

Ultrasonic cutting with a disc cutter is an advanced machining method for the high-quality processing of Nomex honeycomb *** machining quality is influenced by ultrasonic cutting parameters,as well as tool orientations,which are determined by the multi-axis machining requirements and the angle control of the cutting ***,in existing research,the effect of the disc cutter orientation on the machining quality has not been studied in depth,and practical guidance for the use of disc cutters is *** this work,the inclined ultrasonic cutting process with a disc cutter was analyzed,and cutting experiments with different inclination angles were *** theoretical residual height models of the honeycomb core,as a result of the lead and tilt angles,were established and verified with the results obtained by a linear laser displacement *** shows that the residual height of the honeycomb core,as a result of the tilt angle,is much larger than that as a result of the lead ***,the tearing of the cell wall on the machined surface was observed,and the effects of the ultrasonic vibration,lead angle,and tilt angle on the tear rate and tear length of the cell wall were *** results revealed that ultrasonic vibration can effectively decrease the tearing of the cell wall and improve the machining *** in the tilt angle have less effect than changes in the lead angle on the tearing of the cell *** determination of inclination angles should consider the actual processing requirements for the residual height and the machining quality of the cell *** study investigates the influence of the inclination angles of a disc cutter on the machining quality of Nomex honeycomb core in ultrasonic cutting and provides guidelines for machining.
