Cybersecurity f.r Allied f.ture Submarines

Cyber has become a supposedly cheap f.rst-strike weapon of.political choice by potential adversaries in a milieu placing insurgency, terrorism, international crime and state-based inf.uences in close un-regulated proximity. The merging of.electronic and cyber warf.re means that not even submarines, however unconnected or f.rewalled they may be, are immune. The quantum attack surf.ce of.submarines is as much in their past, as they are in their designs today and their operations tomorrow: they must survive to be credible and ideally they should even be a contemporary of.ensive cyber deterrent. Such critical def.nsive systems require robust security systems engineering and cybersecurity test and evaluation to build and sustain their cyber-resilience. This paper uses Australia’s f.ture submarine program [1]1 to outline key f.cets needed in a submarine program to achieve cyber resilience, including how to adapt U.S. Department of.Def.nse (DoD) best practices to engineer, test and sustain cyber-resilient submarine systems. Strategies are needed that provision sovereign-owned and operated land-based test sites to design, build, demonstrate and sustain critical submarine systems. This work is most relevant to countries allied to the U.S. and importing submarine capabilities, such as within lesser European powers and also in the Indo-Pacif.c where both cyber warf.re and submarines are prolif.rating.

The ef.ect on spore germination of.the entomopathogenic f.ngus Lecanicillium muscarium f.llowing direct exposure f.r 24 h to the insecticides Majestik, Spray Oil, Agri- 50E, Savona and Oberon f.r the control of.both egg and second instar stages of.the sweetpotato whitef.y, Bemisia tabaci, was determined. Exposure to both Agri-50E and Oberon was f.llowed by acceptable spore germination. Inf.ctivity rates of.. muscarium on poinsettia f.liage in the presence of.dry residues of.the insecticides were also investigated. No signif.cant detrimental ef.ects on the levels of.control of.B. tabaci were recorded compared with f.ngus applied to residue-f.ee f.liage. Sequential application of.the chemicals Savona, Spray Oil and Majestik with the f.ngus all produced mortalities of.second instar B. tabaci above 90%. Incorporation of.these chemicals with L. muscarium into integrated control programs f.r B. tabaci is discussed.

The Application of.Epidemiology f.r Categorising DNS Cyber Risk f.ctors

This Epidemiology can be applied to cybersecurity as a novel approach f.r analysing and detecting cyber threats and their risks. It provides a systematic model f.r the analysis of.likelihood, consequence, management, and prevention measures to examine malicious behaviours like disease. There are a f.w research studies in discrete cybersecurity risk f.ctors;however, there is a signif.cant research gap on the analysis of.collective cyber risk f.ctors and measuring their cyber risk impacts. Ef.ective cybersecurity risk management requires the identif.cation and estimation of.the probability of.inf.ction, based on a comprehensive range of.historical and environmental f.ctors, including human behaviour and technology characteristics. This paper explores how an epidemiological principle can be applied to identif. cybersecurity risk f.ctors. These risk f.ctors comprise both human and machine behaviours prof.led as risk f.ctors. This paper conducts a preliminary analysis of.the relationships between these risk f.ctors utilising Domain Name System (DNS) data sources. The experimental results indicated that the epidemiological principle can ef.ectively examine and estimate cyber risk f.ctors. The proposed principle has a great potential in enhancing new machine learning-enabled intrusion detection solutions by utilising this principle as a risk assessment module of.the solutions.

The integrated use of.chemical insecticides and the entomopathogenic nematode, Steinemema carpocapsae （Nematoda： Steinernematidae）, f.r the control of.sweetpotato whitef.y, Bemisia tabaci （Hemiptera： Aleyrodidae）

The integration of.chemical insecticides and inf.ctive juveniles of.the entomopathogenic nematode Steinernema carpocapsae （Wesier）（Nematoda： Steinernematidae）, to control second instars of.the sweetpotato whitef.y, Bemisia tabaci Gennadius （Hemiptera： Aleyrodidae） was investigated. Using a sand bioassay, the ef.ects of.direct exposure of.S. carpocapsae f.r 24 h to f.eld rate dilutions of.f.ur insecticides （spiromesif.n, thiacloprid, imidacloprid and pymetrozine） on inf.ctivity to Galleria mellonella larvae were tested. Although all chemicals tested, except spiromesif.n, produced acceptable nematode inf.ctivity rates, they were all signif.cantly less than the water control. The ef.ect of.insecticide treatment （dry residues of.spiromesif.n, thiacloprid and pymetrozine and soil drench of.imidacloprid） on the ef.icacy of.the nematode against B. tabaci was also investigated. Nematodes in combination with thiacloprid and spiromesif.n gave higher B. tabaci mortality （86.5% and 94.3% respectively） compared to using nematodes alone （75.2%） on tomato plants. There was no signif.cant dif.erence in B. tabaci mortality when using the chemicals imidacloprid, pymetrozine and spiromesif.n in conjunction with nematodes compared to using the chemicals alone. However, using thiacloprid in combination with the nematodes produced signif.cantly higher B. tabaci mortality than using the chemical alone. The integration of.S. carpocapsae and these chemical agents into current integrated pest management programmes f.r the control of.B. tabaci is discussed.

The interaction between auxin and cytokinin is important in many aspects of.plant *** measurements of.both auxin and cytokinin concentration and reporter gene expression clearly show the coexistence of.auxin and cytokinin concentration patterning in Arabidopsis root ***,in the context of.crosstalk among auxin,cytokinin,and ethylene,little is known about how auxin and cytokinin concentration patterns simultaneously emerge and how they regulate each other in the Arabidopsis *** work utilizes a wide range of.experimental observations to propose a mechanism f.r simultaneous patterning of.auxin and cytokinin *** addition to revealing the regulatory relationships between auxin and cytokinin,this mechanism shows that ethylene signaling is an important f.ctor in achieving simultaneous auxin and cytokinin patterning,while also predicting other experimental *** the mechanism with a realistic in silico root model reproduces experimental observations of.both auxin and cytokinin *** made by the mechanism can be compared with a variety of.experimental observations,including those obtained by our group and other independent experiments reported by other *** of.these predictions include patterning of.auxin biosynthesis rate,changes in PIN1 and PIN2 patterns in pin3,4,7 mutants,changes in cytokinin patterning in the pls mutant,PLS patterning,and various trends in dif.erent *** research reveals a plausible mechanism f.r simultaneous patterning of.auxin and cytokinin concentrations in Arabidopsis root development and suggests a key role f.r ethylene pattern integration.

Robust reduction of.graphene f.uoride using an electrostatically biased scanning probe

We report a novel and easily accessible method to chemically reduce graphene f.uoride （Gf. sheets with nanoscopic precision using high electrostatic f.elds generated between an atomic f.rce microscope （Af.） tip and the Gf.substrate. Reduction of.f.uorine by the electric f.eld produces graphene nanoribbons （GNR） with a width of.105-1,800 nm with sheet resistivity drastically decreased f.om 〉1 TΩ.sq.^-1 （Gf. down to 46 kΩ.sq.^-1 （GNR）. f.uorine reduction also changes the topography, f.iction, and work f.nction of.the Gf. Kelvin probe f.rce microscopy measurements indicate that the work f.nction of.Gf.is 180-280 meV greater than that of.graphene. The reduction process was optimized by varying the Af. probe velocity between 1.2 μm.s^-1 and 12 μm.s^-1 and the bias voltage applied to the sample between -8 and -12 V. The electrostatic f.eld required to remove f.uorine f.om carbon is -1.6 ***-1. Reduction of.the f.uorine may be due to the sof.ening of.the C-f.bond in this intense f.eld or to the accumulation and hydrolysis of.adventitious water into a meniscus.

Theory of.a Mach Ef.ect Thruster II

According to Einstein, General Relativity contains the essence of.Mach’s ideas. Mach’s principle can be summarized by stating that the inertia of.a body is determined by the rest of.the mass-energy content of.the universe. Inertia here arises f.om mass-energy there. The latter, was a statement made by John Wheeler in his 1995 book, Gravitation and Inertia, coauthored by Ciuf.lini. Einstein believed that to be f.lly Machian, gravity would need a radiative component, an action-at-a-distance character, so that gravitational inf.uences on a body f.om f.r away could be f.lt immediately. In 1960’s, Hoyle and Narlikar (HN) developed such a theory which was a gravitational version of.the Absorber theory derived by Wheeler-f.ynman f.r classical electrodynamics and later expanded upon by Davies and Narlikar f.r quantum electrodynamics. The HN-f.eld equation has the same type of.mass f.uctuation terms as in the Woodward Mach ef.ect thruster theory. The f.rce equation, used to predict the thrust in our device, can be derived f.om the mass f.uctuation. We outline a new method f.r deriving the f.rce equation. We present new experimental tests of.the thruster to show that the thrust seen in our device is not due to either heating or Dean Drive ef.ects. Successf.l replications have been perf.rmed by groups in Austria and Canada, but their work is still pending in the peer review literature.

In vivo transcription of.two promoters, P_(TH4) and P_(TH270) involved in regulation of.Streptomyces dif.erentiation

The promoters, PTH4 and P-TH270 involved in the regulation of.Streptomyces coelicolor dif.erentiation were subcloned into Streptomyces promoter, i.e. probe plasmid pIJ4083, and the recombinant plasmids, pIJ4470 and pIJ4471, were constructed. Two promoters could drive the expression of.reporter gene encoding catechol dioxygenase when pIJ4470 and pIJ4471 were introduced into some white mutants (C85, C70, C71, C17 and C119). The total RNA was isolated f.om these strains containing recombinant plasmid. Probes were prepared by labelling 5 -ends of.PTH4 AND PTH270 DNA f.agments using radioisotope. DNA - RNA hybridization was carried out with the probes and RNAs isolated f.om dif.erent strains. The S1 mapping result showed that all RNAs f.om strains of.C85/pIJ4470, C85/4471, C70/pIJ4470, C70/pIJ4471 and C17/pIJ4470 as well as C17/pIJ4471 gave rise to strong positive hy-bridization signal, whereas RNAs f.om C71/pIJ4470 and C71/pIJ4471 did not give any positive signal. RNAs f.om C119/pIJ4470 and C119/pIJ4471 gave weak hybridization signal. The result indicated that the transcription of.both PTH4 and PTH270 promoters might depend on whiG, an essential gene in Streptomyces dif.erentiation, and partially de-pend on whiH, but they did not depend on other dif.erentiation genes (whiA, whiB and whiI) .
