Role of dental plaque,saliva and periodontal disease in Helicobacter pylori infection

Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection is one of the most common bacterial infections in humans. Although H. pylori may be detected in the stomach of approximately half of the world’s population, the mechanisms of transmission of the microorganism from individual to individual are not yet clear. Transmission of H. pylori could occur through iatrogenic, fecal-oral, and oral-oral routes, and through food and water. The microorganism may be transmitted orally and has been detected in dental plaque and saliva. However, the role of the oral cavity in the transmission and recurrence of H. pylori infection has been the subject of debate. A large number of studies investigating the role of oral hygiene and periodontal disease in H. pylori infection have varied significantly in terms of their methodology and sample population, resulting in a wide variation in the reported results. Nevertheless, recent studies have not only shown that the microorganism can be detected fairly consistently from the oral cavity but also demonstrated that the chances of recurrence of H. pylori infection is more likely among patients who harbor the organism in the oral cavity. Furthermore, initial results from clinical trials have shown that H. pylori-positive dyspeptic patients may benefit from periodontal therapy. This paper attempts to review the current body of evidence regarding the role of dental plaque, saliva, and periodontal disease in H. pylori infection.

BACKGROUND： Diagnostic parameters that can predict the presence of chronic pancreatitis（Cp） in patients with recurrent pain due to pancreatitis would help to direct appropriate therapy. This study aimed to compare the serum levels of monocyte chemoattractant protein-1（MCp-1）, transforming growth factor-β1（TGF-β1）, nerve growth factor（NGF）, resistin and hyaluronic acid（HA） in patients with recurrent acute pancreatitis（RAp） and Cp to assess their ability to differentiate the two ***： Levels of serum markers assessed by enzymelinked immunosorbent assay（ELISA） were prospectively compared in consecutive patients with RAp, Cp and in controls and stepwise discriminant analysis was performed to identify the markers differentiating RAp from ***： One hundred and thirteen consecutive patients（RAp=32, Cp=81） and 78 healthy controls were prospectively enrolled. The mean（SD） age of the patients was 32.0（14.0）years; 89（78.8%） were male. All markers were significantly higher in Cp patients than in the controls（p〈0.001）; MCp-1NGF and HA were significantly higher in RAp patients than in the controls（p〈0.001）. Stepwise discriminant analysis showed significant difference（p=0.002） between RAp and Cp for resistin with an accuracy of 61.9%, discriminant scores of ≤-0.479 and ≥0.189 indicating RAp and Cp, respectively. The other markers had no differential value between RAp and ***： Serum resistin is a promising marker to differentiate between RAp and Cp and needs validation in future studies, especially in those with early Cp.

Development of image motion compensation system for 1.3 m telescope at Vainu Bappu Observatory

We developed a tip-tilt system to compensate the turbulence induced image motion for the 1.3 m telescope at Vainu Bappu Observatory,at *** instrument is designed to operate at the visible wavelength band(480-700 nm)with a field of view of 1′×1′.The tilt corrected images have demonstrated up to ≈57% improvement in image resolution and a corresponding peak intensity increase by a factor of ≈2.8.A closed-loop correction bandwidth of ≈26 Hz has been achieved with on-sky tests and the root mean square motion of the star image has been reduced by a factor of ~*** results are consistent with theoretical and numerical predictions of wave-front aberrations caused by atmospheric turbulence and image quality improvement expected from a real-time control *** this paper,we present details of the instrument design,laboratory calibration studies and quantify its performance on the telescope.

Comparing acid steatocrit and faecal elastase estimations for use in M-ANNHEIM staging for pancreatitis

AIM To compare two tests for exocrine pancreatic function(EpF) for use in M-ANNHEIM staging for pancreatitis. METHODS One hundred and ninety four consecutive patients with acute pancreatitis(Ap; n = 13), recurrent acute pancreatitis(RAp; n = 65) and chronic pancreatitis(Cp; n = 116) were enrolled. EpF was assessed by faecal elastase-1(FE-1) estimation and stool fat excretion by the acid steatocrit method. patients were classified as per M-ANNHEIM stages separately based on the results of the two tests for comparison. Independent Student's t-test, χ~2 test, Kruskal-Wallis test, Mann-Whitney U test and Mc Nemar's test were used as appropriate. RESULTS Sixty-one(52.5%) patients with Cp had steatorrhoea when assessed by the acid steatocrit method; 79 (68.1%) with Cp had exocrine insufficiency by the FE-1 test(χ~2 test, p pearman's rho =-0.376, p parately by acid steatocrit and the FE-1. Thirteen(6.7%), 87(44.8%), 89(45.8%) and 5(2.5%) patients were placed in M-ANNHEIM stages 0,?Ⅰ, Ⅱ, and Ⅲ respectively, with the use of acid steatocrit as against 13(6.7%), 85(43.8%), 75(38.6%), and 21(10.8%) respectively by FE-1 in stages 0,?Ⅰ, Ⅱ, and Ⅲ thereby altering the stage in 28(14.4%) patients(p performed better than the acid steatocrit test for use in the staging of pancreatitis by the M-ANNHEIM classification since it diagnosed a higher proportion of patients with exocrine insufficiency.

Drug use during pregnancy is not ***-induced liver injury(DILI)is a potential complication that is rare but can adversely affect both the mother and the *** many drugs can directly cause hepatotoxicity,idiosyncratic liver injury is common in *** of adverse drug reactions,lack of adequate literature regarding drug safety in pregnancy,and the inherent difficulty in diagnosing DILI during pregnancy make the management of this condition *** review attempts to describe the existing literature regarding DILI in pregnancy,which is mainly in the form of case reports;several studies have looked at the safety of antithyroid drugs,antiretroviral drugs,and paracetamol,which have an indication for use in pregnancy;the relevant data from these studies with regard to DILI has been *** addition,the review describes the diagnosis of DILI,grading the disease severity,assessment of causality linking the drug to the adverse event,regulatory guidelines for evaluating the potential of drugs to cause liver injury,efforts to ensure better participation of women in clinical trials and studies in pregnant women population in particular,and the challenges involved in generating adequate research *** establishment of DILI registries in various countries is an encouraging development;however,there is a need for promoting active,spontaneous reporting of adverse events during pregnancy to ensure rapid generation of evidence regarding the safety of a drug in pregnant women.

Steam as coolant and lubricant in turning of metal matrix composites

Green cutting has become focus of attention in ecological and environmental protection. Steam is cheap, poilution-free and eco-friendly, and then is a good and economical coolant and lubricant. Steam generator and steam feeding system were developed to generate and feed steam. Comparative experiments were carried out in cutting AA6061-15 vol.% SiC （25 p.m particle size）, with cubic boron nitride （CBN） insert KB-90 grade under the conditions of compressed air, oil water emulsion, steam as coolant and lubricant, and dry cutting, respectively. The experimental results show that, with steam as coolant and lubricant, gradual reduction in the cutting force, friction coefficient, surface roughness and cutting temperature values were observed. Further, there was reduction in built up edge formation. It is proved that use of water steam as coolant and lubricant is environmentally friendly.

The computation of facial profile from dental morphometrics has been a subject of great interest in forensic *** use of teeth to draw a profile and facial features is valuable in times of mass disasters when body remains are unavailable due to extreme *** study aims to identify and evaluate applicable parameters in the permanent maxillary central incisors and the face of an individual.A correlation of these parameters establishes a mathematical equation that further charts a tooth‑facial profile *** soft and hard tissue landmarks on the face in the frontal and the lateral profiles(using standardized photographs)and seven landmarks on the facial/labial surface of the clinical crown of the permanent maxillary central incisor(using casts of the maxilla)were identified for the *** on these,a set of eight horizontal and seven vertical parameters on the face and four parameters on the tooth were created for the *** and external correlations between the two were carried out and statistically analyzed.A logistic regression was made to predict the probability of the parameters most likely to be reproduced in the creation of the facial profile,based on tooth *** results indicated a definite correlation between the facial and the tooth *** the multiple parameters,a definite correlation in the horizontal dimension could be established between the mouth width and the mesiodistal width(MDW)of the *** the vertical dimension,a definite relationship existed between the crown height of the tooth and the width of the midface(zygoma‑mandible).There exist divergences in the correlation of tooth and facial parameters.

Decentralized Multigrid for In-situ Big Data Computing

Modern seismic sensors are capable of recording high precision vibration data continuously for several months. Seismic raw data consists of information regarding earthquake’s origin time, location, wave velocity, ***, these high volume data are gathered manually from each station for analysis. This process restricts us from obtaining high-resolution images in real-time. A new in-network distributed method is required that can obtain a high-resolution seismic tomography in real time. In this paper, we present a distributed multigrid solution to reconstruct seismic image over large dense networks. The algorithm performs in-network computation on large seismic samples and avoids expensive data collection and centralized computation. Our evaluation using synthetic data shows that the proposed method accelerates the convergence and reduces the number of messages exchanged. The distributed scheme balances the computation load and is also tolerant to severe packet loss.

Cure characteristics of hydroxyl terminated polybutadiene (HTpB) prepolymer with avariety of blocked toluene diisocyanate (TDI) in the presence of triethylamine (TEA) andchloroacetic acid catalyst are reported. phenol, thiophenol, p-chloropheno1, p-nitrophenol,p-cresol, resorcinol, naphthols, caprolactam and butylated-hydroxytoluene were used as blockingagents. Viscosity measurements have been carried out using a mixture of HTpB and blocked TDIin cyclohexanone in the presence of the catalysts at 50℃ and 60℃ using Haake rotational vis-cometer. Viscosity measurements have also been carried out with 50% solids such as ammonium sulphate along with HTpB and TDI adduct.
