The development of 3D s.iral microfluidics.has.opened new avenues.for leveraging inertial focus.ng to analyze s.all fluid volumes.thereby advancing res.arch acros. chemical,phys.cal,and biological *** traditional s.raight microchannels.rely s.lely on inertial lift forces.the novel s.iral geometry generates.Dean drag forces.eliminating the neces.ity for external fields.in fluid ***,fabricating 3D s.iral microfluidics.remains.a labor-intens.ve and cos.ly endeavor,hindering its.wides.read ***,conventional lithographic methods.primarily yield 2D planar devices.thereby limiting the s.lection of materials.and geometrical *** addres. thes. challenges.this.work introduces.a s.reamlined fabrication method for 3D s.iral microfluidic devices.employing rotational force within a miniaturized thermal drawing proces.,termed as.*** innovation allows.for rapid prototyping of twis.ed fiber-bas.d microfluidics.featuring vers.tility in material s.lection and heightened geometric *** validate the performance of thes. devices.we combined computational modeling with microtomographic particle image velocimetry(uTPiM)to comprehens.vely characterize the 3D flow *** res.lts.corroborate the pres.nce of a s.eady s.condary flow,unders.oring the effectivenes. of our *** 3D s.iral microfluidics.platform paves.the way for exploring intricate microflow dynamics.with promis.ng applications.in areas.s.ch as.drug delivery,diagnos.ics.and lab-on-a-chip s.s.ems.

The journey to implement cancer genomic medicine(CGM)in oncology practice began in the 1980s.which is.cons.dered the dawn of genetic and genomic cancer *** the time,a variety of activating oncogenic alterations.and their functional s.gnificance were unveiled in cancer cells.which led to the development of molecular targeted therapies.in the 2000s.and *** CGM is.s.ill a relatively new dis.ipline and it is.difficult to predict to what extent CGM will benefit the divers. pool of cancer patients.the National Cancer Center(NCC)of Japan has.already contributed cons.derably to CGM advancement for the conques. of *** back at thes. pas. achievements.of the NCC,we predict that the future of CGM will involve the following:1)A biobank of paired cancerous.and non-cancerous.tis.ues.and cells.from various.cancer types.and s.ages.will be *** quantity and quality of thes. s.mples.will be compatible with omics.*** biobank s.mples.will be linked to longitudinal clinical information.2)New technologies.s.ch as.whole-genome s.quencing and artificial intelligence,will be introduced and new biores.urces.for functional and pharmacologic analys.s.e.g.,a patient-derived xenograft library)will be s.s.ematically deployed.3)Fas. and bidirectional trans.ational res.arch(bench-to-beds.de and beds.de-to-bench)performed by bas.c res.archers.and clinical inves.igators.preferably working alongs.de each other at the s.me ins.itution,will be implemented;4)Clos. collaborations.between academia,indus.ry,regulatory bodies.and funding agencies.will be es.ablis.ed.5)There will be an inves.ment in the other branch of CGM,pers.nalized preventive medicine,bas.d on the individual's.genetic predis.os.tion to cancer.

BACKGROUND Emergency pancreaticoduodenectomy(EPD)is.a rare event for complex periam-pullary *** intraoperative blood los. is.correlated with poor pos.-operative *** s.MMARY Two patients.underwent EPD us.ng a no-touch is.lation technique,in which all arteries.s.pplying the pancreatic head region were ligated and divided before manipulation of the pancreatic head and *** operative times.were 220 and 239 min,and the blood los. was.70 and 270 g,*** patients.were dis.harged on the 14^(th) and 10^(th) pos.operative day,***-two patients.underwent EPD for the treatment of neoplas.ic *** mean operative time was.361.6 min,and the mean blood los. was.747.3 *** comp-lication rate was.37.5%.The in-hos.ital mortality rate was.9.38%.CONCLUs.ON The no-touch is.lation technique is.feas.ble,s.fe,and effective for reducing intraoperative blood los. in EPD.

Objective: To evaluate the contribution of perioperative glycemic control to progres.ion of diabetic retinopathy and maculopathy. Methods. Pos.operative progres.ion of diabetic retinopathy and maculopathy were compared in 87 patients.with type 2 diabetes.ellitus.who underwentmonocular phacoemuls.fication cataract s.rgery performed by a s.ngle s.rgeon. Twenty-s.ven patients.had had poor glycemic control preoperatively and underwent rapid preoperative glycemic correction;30 patients.had poor control preoperatively that was.not corrected pos.operatively; and 30 patients.had good preoperative glycemic control. The grade of diabetic retinopathy and maculopathy in the operated-on eye and the fellow eye was.as.es.ed preoperatively and for 12 months.pos.operatively. Res.lts. There were no s.gnificant differences.in the progres.ion rate of diabetic retinopathy among the 3 groups.(P = .27). However, the progres.ion rate of diabetic maculopathy was.s.gnificantly higher in the group that underwent rapid control than in the other 2 groups.(P = .02). Patients.with moderate to s.vere nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy preoperatively in the rapid control group had s.gnificantly higher progres.ion rates.of diabetic retinopathy and maculopathy (P = .002 and .008, res.ectively). Conclus.ons. Rapid preoperative glycemic control s.ould be avoided in patients.with moderate to s.vere nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy becaus. it may increas. the ris. of pos.operative progres.ion of retinopathy and maculopathy.

In recent years. s.miconductor s.rvey meters.have been developed and are in increas.ng demand worldwide. This.s.udy determined if it is.pos.ible to us. the X-ray s.s.em ins.alled in each medical facility to calculate the time cons.ant of a s.miconductor s.rvey meter and confirm the meter’s.function. An additional filter was.attached to the medical X-ray s.s.em to s.tis.y the s.andards.of N-60 to N-120, more copper plates.were added as.needed, and the firs. and s.cond half-value layers.were calculated to enable comparis.ns.of the facility’s.X-ray s.s.em quality with the N-60 to N-120 quality values. Next, we us.d a medical X-ray s.s.em to meas.re the leakage dos. and calculate the time cons.ant of the s.rvey meter. The functionality of the meter was.then checked and compared with the energy characteris.ics.of the meter. The experimental res.lts.s.owed that it was.pos.ible to us. a medical X-ray s.s.em to reproduce the N-60 to N-120 radiation quality values.and to calculate the time cons.ant from the meas.red res.lts. as.uming actual leakage dos.metry for that radiation quality. We als. found that the calibration factor was.equivalent to that of the energy characteris.ics.of the s.rvey meter.

The purpos. of this.s.udy was.to determine whether Helicobacter pylori infection and mucos.l inflammation res.lt in gas.ric atrophy in Japanes. children. A total of 196 patients.ages.1-16 years.were retros.ectively s.udied: 131 patients.were infected with H. pylori and 65 patients.were uninfected. Antral (n = 196) and corpus.biops. s.ecimens.(n = 70) were inves.igated bas.d on the Updated s.dney s.s.em. In both the antrum and corpus. H. pylori-infected patients.s.owed s.gnificantly higher degrees.of inflammation and activity of gas.ritis. compared with noninfected patients. The prevalence of grade 2 or 3 atrophy in the antrum was.10.7%in H. pylori-infected patients.and 0%in the noninfected patients.(P s.4.3%and 0%, res.ectively (P = .20). The frequency of intes.inal metaplas.a in the 2 s.udy groups.was.4.6%and 4.6%in the antrum and 0%and 4.2%in the corpus. res.ectively. Among H. pylori-infected patients. the antrum s.owed s.gnificantly higher degrees.of H. pylori dens.ty, inflammation and activity of gas.ritis. and atrophy than the corpus. In the antrum, atrophy was.s.gnificantly correlated with activity, whereas.in the corpus. atrophy correlated with H. pylori dens.ty, inflammation, and activity. H. pylori-induced gas.ric inflammation can caus. atrophy in Japanes. children, predominantly in the antrum. It remains.to be determined whether H. pylori-infected children with gas.ric atrophy are at increas.d ris. for gas.ric cancer.

Background:In adults. epithelial cell proliferation and apoptos.s.of the gas.ric mucos. are induced by Helicobacter pylori infection and are as.ociated with gas.ric atrophy or gas.ric carcinoma. In children, there are few s.udies.about s.ch epithelial changes. To elucidate the role of H. pylori infection in gas.ric mucos.l inflammation, we immunohis.ochemically examined gas.ric mucos. of Japanes. children. Methods.Biops. s.ecimens.obtained from the gas.ric antrum and corpus.of H. pylori-infected (n = 13) and noninfected children (n = 15) were s.udied for immunolocalization of Ki-67, s.ngle-s.rand DNA, manganes. s.peroxide dis.utas. (Mn-s.D), and CD68, and terminal deoxynucleotidyl trans.eras.-mediated dUTP-biotin nick-end labeling. In 10 patients.with s.cces.ful eradication, pre-and pos. treatment res.lts.were compared. Res.lts.In both gas.ric antrum and corpus. neutrophil and mononuclear cell infiltration, epithelial cell proliferation, and apoptos.s.s.gnificantly increas.d in H. pylori-infected patients. predominantly in the antrum. In the antrum of H. pylori-infected patients. there was.pos.tive correlation between the degrees.of neutrophil infiltration and cell proliferation (P s.s.(P s.l inflammation, cell proliferation (P s.s.(P s.D immunoreactivity and CD68-pos.tive macrophages.in the antrum, which s.gnificantly increas.d in H. pylori-infected patients. decreas.d after the eradication. Conclus.ons.H. pylori infection induced gas.ric mucos.l inflammation and epithelial cell turnover in children. Moreover, gas.ric mucos.l defens. mechanis. agains. H. pylori infection was.activated. H. pylori eradication in childhood might prevent the accumulation of gas.ric epithelial cell damage.

Inhomogeneous.dealloying kinetics.along grain boundaries.during liquid metal dealloying

In this.s.udy, the inhomogeneous.dealloying phenomenon during the liquid metal dealloying(LMD) was.inves.igated us.ng FeNi+Mg and(FeCo)Ni+Mg s.s.ems. For the FeNi+Mg s.s.em, the inhomogeneous.dealloying and wetting of Mg melt occurred along triple junction(TJ) and grain boundary(GB).Temperature increas. enhances.the inhomogeneous.dealloying kinetics.and leads.to the formation of the plate-s.aped abnormal ligaments.at the GB region. The energy banlance between a GB energy(γGB)and s.lid-liquid interface energies.γs.) is.the key factor governing the inhomogeneous.dealloying and wetting. Particularly, the low-energy twin boundaries.were unaffected by the inhomogeneous.***, precurs.r micros.ructure is.an important factor determining the final morphology of dealloyed material as.well as.its.phys.cal properties. In the cas. of the(FeCo)Niprecurs.r, all TJ and GB were s.able agains. the preferred penetration of Mg melt from 600 ℃ to 800 ℃. It was.concluded that a minor addition of alloying elements.VorCr) changes.GB characteris.ics.as.well as.γs.of the precurs.r ***, this.s.gnificantly influences.dealloying mechanis.s.and final morphology of the dealloyed material. The current findings.demons.rate the importance of GB engineering in the precurs.r materials.for the technological application of liquid metal dealloying for the s.nthes.s.of advanced s.ructural and functional materials.

Dear Editor,Coronavirus.s.have evolved a wide array of tactics.to evade hos. antiviral *** hos. cells.detect invading foreign nucleic acids.including viral genome and viral replication intermediates.they activate interferon(IFN)s.gnaling via cytoplas.ic pattern recognition receptors.Kang et al.,2002;kato et al.,2006).Remarkable s.ealth activities.exhibited by coronavirus.s.are facilitated by a s.ries.of non-s.ructural proteins.Ns.s.,s.ch as.Ns.15(Deng and Baker,2018;Deng et al.,2019;Hackbart et al.,2020),which is.a uridine-s.ecific endoribonucleas. that mediates.evas.on of hos. detection of viral double-s.randed RNA(ds.NA)(Bhardwaj et al.,2004;Deng et al.,2017;Frazier et al.,2021;Ivanov et al.,2004).Ns.15 targets.a polyuridine[poly(U)]tract on the coronavirus.negative s.rand RNA(Hackbart et al.,2020).Ns.15 limits.the abundance and length of poly(U)within the negative s.rand RNA 5ʹ-extens.on by trimming down the initially s.nthes.zed poly(U)lead s.quence to the optimal length that can s.ppres. ds.NA formation but s.ill s.rves.as.a template for poly(A)tail of the pos.tive s.rand genome of the coronavirus.s.Hofmann and Brian,1991).

Purpos.:To inves.igate intraocular lens.IOL)tilt and decentration following combined vitrectomy and pars.plana lens.ctomy(PPL)with IOL implantation in patients.with proliferative diabetic ***:We followed 25 patients.with proliferative diabetic retinopathy who underwent PPL and IOL(MA60BM)implantation at the time of pars.plana vitrectomy(PPL group),and 25 patients.who underwent phacoemuls.fication and IOL(MA60BM)implantation without vitrectomy(PE group).Intraocular lens.tilt and decentration were evaluated quantitatively,us.ng the anterior eye s.gment analys.s.s.s.em,approximately 12 months.after ***:There was.no s.gnificant difference in IOL tilt(p=0.47)or decentration(p =0.26)between the PPL and PE ***:The pres.nt s.udy s.gges.s.that tilt and decentration of the IOL are acceptable in combined vitrectomy and pars.plana lens.ctomy.
