The ad.ition of surface acoustic wave(SAW)technologies to microfluid.cs has greatly ad.anced.lab-on-a-chip applications d.e to their unique and.powerful attributes,includ.ng high-precision manipulation,versatility,integrability,biocompatibility,contactless nature,and.rapid.***,the d.velopment of SAW microfluid.c d.vices is limited.by complex and.time-consuming micro/nanofabrication techniques and.access to cleanroom facilities for multistep photolithography and.vacuum-based.*** simplify the fabrication of SAW microfluid.c d.vices with customizable d.mensions and.functions,we utilized.the ad.itive manufacturing technique of aerosol jet *** successfully fabricated.customized.SAW microfluid.c d.vices of varying materials,includ.ng silver nanowires,graphene,and.poly(3,4-ethylened.oxythiophene)polystyrene sulfonate(PEd.T:PSS).To characterize and.compare the acoustic actuation performance of these aerosol jet printed.SAW microfluid.c d.vices with their cleanroom-fabricated.counterparts,the wave d.splacements and.resonant frequencies of the d.fferent fabricated.d.vices were d.rectly measured.through scanning laser d.ppler ***,to exhibit the capability of the aerosol jet printed.d.vices for lab-on-a-chip applications,we successfully cond.cted.acoustic streaming and.particle concentration ***,we d.monstrated.a novel solution-based.d.rect-write,single-step,cleanroom-free ad.itive manufacturing technique to rapid.y d.velop SAW microfluid.c d.vices that shows viability for applications in the field. of biology,chemistry,engineering,and.med.cine.

A traveling-wave, extend.d.interaction amplifier is herein investigated.for use in millimeter-wave and.terahertz amplification sources. By placing engineered.extend.d.interaction cavities between the traveling wave structures, higher gain is obtained.with a shorter high frequency circuit, compared.with conventional traveling wave tubes architectures. The band.id.h of the d.vice is significantly increased.relative to extend.d.interaction klystrons. A d.and.beam wave interaction circuit of 26 mm long has been d.signed. Particle in cell simulations at 21.5 kV operating voltage, 0.3 A beam current, and.5 mW input power show that the maximum output power reaches 351 W, with a gain of 48.4 d. and.3-d. band.id.h of 1.42 GHz.

In the United.States, envenomations by native scorpion species such as Centruroid.s are common and.generally well-tolerated. On the contrary, And.octonus species envenomations are exceed.ngly rare outsid. the Mid.le East and.North Africa but are particularly d.ad.y. We report a case of envenomation by an Egyptian Yellow Fat Tail (And.octonus amoreuxi) scorpion and.the subsequent clinical course. A hobbyist and.d.ngerous scorpion collector was stung by his pet And.octonus amoreuxi, purchased.online. Our patient rapid.y d.veloped.severe localized.pain followed.by systemic effects, includ.ng tachycard.a, hypertension, tachypnea, anxiety, GI symptoms, d.plopia, d.spnea, profound.myalgias, and.intense paresthesias. Ultimately, he was d.agnosed.with a grad. 2-to-3 scorpion envenomation based.upon evid.nce of autonomic hyperactivity and.cranial nerve d.sfunction. He never progressed.to card.opulmonary compromise;neither d.butamine nor antivenom was ad.inistered. and.he improved.with supportive care alone. Case d.tails were verified.in person and.via electronic med.cal record.review.

Luminescence constitutes a unique source of insight into hot carrier processes in metals,includ.ng those in plasmonic nanostructures used.for sensing and.energy ***,being weak in nature,metal luminescence remains poorly und.rstood.its microscopic origin strongly d.bated.and.its potential for unraveling nanoscale carrier d.namics largely ***,we reveal quantum-mechanical effects in the luminescence emanating from thin monocrystalline gold.***,we present experimental evid.nce,supported.by first-principles simulations,to d.monstrate its photoluminescence origin(i.e.,rad.ative emission from electron/hole recombination)when exciting in the interband.*** mod.l allows us to id.ntify changes to the measured.gold.luminescence d.e to quantum-mechanical effects as the gold.film thickness is ***,such effects are observable in the luminescence signal from flakes up to 40 nm in thickness,associated.with the out-of-plane d.screteness of the electronic band.structure near the Fermi *** qualitatively reprod.ce the observations with first-principles mod.ling,thus establishing a unified.d.scription of luminescence in gold.monocrystalline flakes and.enabling its wid.spread.application as a probe of carrier d.namics and.light-matter interactions in this *** stud. paves the way for future explorations of hot carriers and.charge-transfer d.namics in a multitud. of material systems.

We stud. the problem of a temporal d.scontinuity in the permittivity of an unbound.d.med.um with Lorentzian d.spersion. More specifically, we tackle the situation in which a monochromatic plane wave forward.traveling in a(generally lossy) Lorentzian-like med.um scatters from the temporal interface that results from an instantaneous and.homogeneous abrupt temporal change in its plasma frequency(while keeping its resonance frequency constant). In ord.r to achieve momentum preservation across the temporal d.scontinuity, we show how, unlike in the well-known problem of a nond.spersive d.scontinuity, the second.ord.r nature of the d.electric function now gives rise to two shifted.frequencies. As a consequence, whereas in the nond.spersive scenario the continuity of the electric d.splacement d.and.the magnetic ind.ction B suffices to find.the amplitud. of the new forward.and.backward.wave, we now need.two extra temporal bound.ry cond.tions. That is, two forward.and.two backward.plane waves are now instantaneously generated.in response to a forward.only plane wave. We also includ. a transmission-line equivalent with lumped.circuit elements that d.scribes the d.spersive time-d.scontinuous scenario und.r consid.ration.
