Changes induced by osmotic stress in the morphology, biochemistry, physiology, anatomy and stomatal parameters of almond species(Prunus L. spp.) grown in vitro

We investigated the influence of different levels of osmotic stress on growth and development in selected wild almond species （eight Prunus spp.） grown in vitro. The study, while endorsing the efficacy of in vitro screening of auxiliary buds of wild almond for osmotic stress tolerance, showed species variability in its response to osmotic stress. Osmotic stress reduced growth and development of all the species. How-ever, the putative tolerant Prunus spp. showed better performance than the putative susceptible genotypes. On average there was an 80% de-crease in shoot dry weight at -1.2 MPa. Reduction in shoot weight was more common in osmotic stress-susceptible species in the section labeled‘Euamygdalus’. The tolerant Prunus species produced smaller changes in biochemical responses than the sensitive cultivars for malondialdehyde content, catalase activity, relative permeability of protoplast membranes, and net photosynthetic rate. The tolerant species maintained cell integrity better than drought sensitive species. Wild almond species in the section labeled ‘Spartioides’ （Prunus arabica （Olivier） Neikle, Prunus glauca＆amp;nbsp;（Browicz） A.E. Murray, Prunus scoparia Spach） and ‘Lycioides’ （Pru-nus lycioides Spach, Prunus reuteri Bossi. et Bushe） were best adapted to osmotic stress. Increase in chlorophyll concentration and leaf thickness under high osmotic stress can be considered as preliminary selection parameters for osmotic stress tolerance in Prunus spp. The study con-firmed the efficacy of the in vitro method for screening of large number of genotypes for osmotic stress tolerance in wild almond species.

Effects of Plasticizers,Antioxidants and Burning Rate Modifiers on Aging Performance of the HTPB/HMDI Composite Solid Propellant

The effects of plasticizers,antioxidants and burning rate modifiers on the aging performance of the composite solid propellant based on hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene(HTPB)/hexamethylene diisocyanate(HMDI)were explored by apply-ing an accelerated aging program for 90 day at 70 ℃. The HTPB propellant matrix with the diisooctyl sebacate(DOS)as plasti-cizers and diisooctyl azelate(DOZ), antioxidants as N,N ′-Diphenyl-p-phenylenediamine(AO) and 2,2′-methylenebis(4-methyl-6-tert-butylphenol)(cyanox 2246)and burning rate modifiers as barium ferrite(BF),copper chromites(CC)and fer-ric oxide(FO)were varied. Results show that sample(S1)which based on DOS decreases the stress value and increases the strain value which considered to be an excellent start for aging program. Sample(S3)containing AO presents the higher resis-tance to oxidation showing the better performance that reflects on increasing the shelf life of the composite solid propellant mo-tor. Sample(S5)which based on BF enhances the ballistic performance among over the other tested two samples. The accelerat-ed aging program allowed us to estimate the motor in-service lifetime.

Low-frequency Oscillation Damping Control for Large-scale Power System with Simplified Virtual Synchronous Machine

This study focuses on a virtual synchronous machine(VSM) based on voltage source converters to mimic the behavior of synchronous machines(SMs) and improve the damping ratio of the power system. The VSM model is simplified according to some assumptions(neglecting the speed variation and the stator transients) to allow for the possibility of dealing with low-frequency oscillation in large-scale systems with many VSMs. Furthermore, a virtual power system stabilizer(VPSS) structure is proposed and tuned using a method based on a linearized power system dynamic model. The linear and nonlinear analyses examine the stability of two modified versions of a 16-machine power system in which, in the first case, partial classical machines are replaced by VSMs, and in the second case, all SMs are replaced by VSMs. The simulation results of the case studies validate the efficiency of the proposed control strategy.

Sustainable land management in Mali

This study uses logistic and Poisson regression models to examine the factors influencing the adoption of sustain-able land management(SLM)practices in Mali using two rounds of the nationally representative survey Enquête Agricole de Conjoncture Intégrée aux Conditions de Vie des Mé*** SLMs considered include the applica-tion of organic fertilizers,the application of inorganic fertilizers,the use of improved seeds,and the practice of *** average the application of organic fertilizers(39.2%),and inorganic fertilizers(28.7%)are the most frequent SLM practices among Malian farmers,and between 2014 and 2017,we observe a decline in the practice of *** regression results show that farmers’adoption of different SLMs is significantly associated with biophysical factors(average temperature,climate type,plot size,plot shape,and location),de-mographic factors(age,gender,education,household size),and socioeconomic factors(number of cultivated plots,livelihood diversification,type of crop grown,market access,credit access,economic shocks,and social capital).Our findings suggest that policymakers and agricultural development agencies in Mali need to adopt a multidimensional policy framework to unlock the untapped potential of SLM practices in promoting sustainable agriculture and food security.

Refrigeration is considered a prime technology for preserving meat *** alterations are commonly ignored by industry during refrigeration,which have impacts on product ***,we conducted research on pork loin and salmon fllets that were preserved for o,5,9,12,and 15 d,where different temperature fluctuations and shocks were established on 4℃.Data revealed that several meat parameters such as total volatile basic nitrogen,total viable count,and lipid oxidation were significantly changed in the±2 C fluctuations group compared with the constant temperature ***,both the temperature fluctuations and shocks groups had accelerated myofibril protein degrad-ation,while desmin expression and species richness/diversity of bacteria were significantly reduced in the±2℃fluctuations group compared with the constant temperature ***,temperature fluctuations and shocks accelerated the destruction of muscle structural ***,both conditions accelerated meat spoilage by progressively expanding the water-loss channels,which can reduce meat *** study provides a new theoretical basis for the proper use of refrigerated temperatures for storing meat products.

The effect of platinum(a rare metal)-aluminide coating parameters on the tensile properties of nickel-based superalloy Rene■80 was evaluated at 871℃.For this purpose,initial layers of platinum with different thicknesses(2,4,6 and 8μm)were coated on tensile samples Then,low-temperature high-activity(LTHA)and hightemperature low-activity(HTLA)processes were used for *** of microstructural evaluations using scanning electron microscope(SEM)and phase analysis by X-ray diffraction(XRD)showed a three-layer structure coating for different platinum layer thicknesses and both aluminizing *** the thickness of the platinum layer from 2 to 8μm led to the improvement in the final coating thickness from 91.6 to 102.1μm in *** increase was from 128.1 to 148.6μm in *** results of hot tensile tests at 871℃ showed a decrease in strength properties of the coated samples compared to the uncoated ***,HTLA and high thicknesses of the initial platinum layer showed an intense *** results of fractographic evaluations abou uncoated samples showed a ductile *** the other hand,coated samples showed a simultaneous ductile and brittle fracture failure *** the main fracture morphology was brittle cleavage fracture which was for the HTLA.

The diagnosis of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)and metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease only on the basis of laboratory parameter score such as Hepatic Steatosis Index which includes liver enzymes,gender,basal metabolic index,and presence of diabetic mellitus is not sufficient to exclude other causes of deranged liver enzymes especially medications and autoimmune related liver *** the guideline suggests ultrasound is the preferred first-line diagnostic procedure for imaging of NAFLD,as it provides additional diagnostic information and the combination of biomarkers/scores and transient elastography might confer additional diagnostic accuracy and evident from previous similar studies too.

Borax/phosphorous oxychloride （BPO） efficiently catalyzes the preparation of 1,5-benzodiazepine derivatives of o-phenylenediamines and ketones in solvent-free and solution conditions. The reaction proceeds efficiently under ambient conditions giving excellent yields of the products. This new protocol allows the recycling of catalyst with no loss in its potency.

Rifaximin vs conventional oral therapy for hepatic encephalopathy:A meta-analysis

AIM: To characterize the efficacy of rifaximin in the management of hepatic encephalopathy (HE) as several randomized controlled studies have shown contradictory results on its effectiveness in comparison to other oral agents. METHODS: We performed a systematic review and random effects meta-analysis of all eligible trials identifi ed through electronic and manual searches. Twelve randomized controlled trials met the inclusion criteria with a total of 565 patients. RESULTS: The clinical effectiveness of rifaximin was equivalent to disaccharides or other oral antibiotics[odds ratio (OR) 0.96; 95% CI: 0.94-4.08] but with a better safety profi le (OR 0.27; 95% CI: 0.12-0.59). At the completion of treatment protocols, patients receiving rifaximin showed lower serum ammonia levels [weighted mean difference (WMD) = -10.65; 95% CI: -23.4-2.1; P = 0.10], better mental status (WMD = -0.24; 95% CI: -0.57-0.08; P = 0.15) and less asterixis (WMD -0.1; 95% CI -0.26-0.07; P = 0.25) without reaching statistical signifi cance. On the other hand, other psychometric outcomes such as electroencephalographic response and grades of portosystemic encephalopathy were superior in patients treated with rifaximin in comparison to the control group (WMD = 0.21, 95% CI: -0.33-0.09, P = 0.0004; and WMD = -2.33, 95% CI: -2.68-1.98, P = 0.00001, respectively). Subgroup and sensitivity analysis did not show any signifi cant difference in the above fi ndings. CONCLUSION: Rifaximin appears to be at least as effective as other conventional oral agents for the treatment of HE with a better safety profi le.
