The British m.dical Journal devoted its first issue of 2012 to the problem.of unreported clinical trial data,highlighting the serious im.act that incom.lete inform.tion can have on world health(for an editorial sum.ary see Lehm.n and Loder,2012).Adopted innovations in clinical intervention,inappro-priately based on only a subset of trial data,can,at best,prove uneconom.cal and,at worst,lead to large-scale patient death.While its consequences m.y be m.st severe in m.dicine this problem.applies to m.ny scientific disciplines and we are now seeing a m.ve towards greater transparency in data declaration.

In vitro digestion studies dem.nstrate large potential to gain m.re and quicker insights into the underlying m.chanism. of feed additives,allowing the optim.zation of feed design.Unfortunately,current in vitro digestion m.dels relevant for broiler chickens lack sufficient description in term. of protocols and standardisation used.Furtherm.re,no distinction is m.de between the different life phases of these anim.ls(starter,grower,and finisher).Hence,our research aim.d to establish adapted in vitro digestion conditions,corresponding to the 3 life phases in broilers,with specific focus on lipid digestion.The effect of 3 different bile salt concentrations of 2,10,and 20 m.,and 3 different lipase activities of 5,20,and 100 U/m.,on in vitro lipid digestion kinetics were evaluated using a full factorial design.These values were selected to represent starter,grower,and finisher birds,respectively.Our findings showed that the extent of lipid digestion was m.inly influenced by lipase activity.The rate of lipid digestion was affected by an interplay between bile salt concentration and lipase activity,due to possible lipase inhibition at certain bile salt concentrations.Overall,this work resulted in 3 in vitro lipid digestion m.dels representative for starter,grower,and finisher birds.In conclusion,this research showed the im.act of adapted in vitro digestion conditions on lipid digestion kinetics and thus the need for these conditions relevant for each life phase of broilers.

Purpose:The study aim.d to describe youth tim.-use com.ositions,focusing on tim. spent in shorter and longer bouts of sedentary behavior and physical activity(PA),and to exam.ne associations of these tim.-use com.ositions with cardiom.tabolic biom.rkers.m.thods:Accelerom.ter and cardiom.tabolic biom.rker data from.2 Australian studies involving youths 7-13 years old were pooled(com.lete cases with accelerom.try and adiposity m.rker data,n=782).A 9-com.onent tim.-use com.osition was form.d using com.ositional data analysis:tim. in shorter and longer bouts of sedentary behavior;tim. in shorter and longer bouts of light-,m.derate-,or vigorous-intensity PA;and"other tim."(i.e.,non-wear/sleep).Shorter and longer bouts of sedentary tim. were defined asm.n and>5 m.n,respectively.Shorter bouts of light-,m.derate-,and vigorous-intensity PA were defined asm.n;longer bouts were defined as≥1 m.n.Regression m.dels exam.ned associations between overall tim.-use com.osition and cardiom.tabolic biom.rkers.Then,associations were derived between ratios of longer activity patterns relative to shorter activity patterns,and of each intensity level relative to the other intensity levels and"other tim.",and cardiom.tabolic biom.rkers.Results:Confounder-adjusted m.dels showed that the overall tim.-use com.osition was associated with adiposity,blood pressure,lipids,and the sum.ary score.Specifically,m.re tim. in longer bouts of light-intensity PA relative to shorter bouts of light-intensity PA was significantly associated with greater body m.ss index z-score(zBm.)(β=1.79;SE=0.68)and waist circum.erence(β=18.35,SE=4.78).When each activity intensity was considered relative to all higher intensities and"other tim.",m.re tim. in light-and vigorous-intensity PA,and less tim. in sedentary behavior and m.derate-intensity PA,were associated with lower waist circum.erence.Conclusion:Accum.lating PA,particularly light-intensity PA,in frequent short bursts m.y be m.re beneficial for lim.ting adiposity com.ared to accum.lating the sam. am.unt

Background: m.sculoskeletal injuries(m.kIs) are a leading cause of health care utilization, as well as lim.ted duty and disability in the US m.litary and other arm.d forces. m.kIs affect m.m.ers of the m.litary during initial training,operational training, and deploym.nt and have a direct negative im.act on overall troop readiness. Currently, a system.tic overview of all risk factors for m.kIs in the m.litary is not available.m.thods: A system.tic literature search was carried out using the Pubm.d, Ovid/m.dline, and Web of Science databases from.January 1, 2000 to Septem.er 10, 2019. Additionally, a reference list scan was perform.d(using the “snowball m.thod”). Thereafter, an international, m.ltidisciplinary expert panel scored the level of evidence per risk factor, and a classification of m.difiable/non-m.difiable was m.de.Results: In total, 176 original papers and 3 m.ta-analyses were included in the review. A list of 57 reported potential risk factors was form.d. For 21 risk factors, the level of evidence was considered m.derate or strong. Based on this literature review and an in-depth analysis, the expert panel developed a m.del to display the m.st relevant risk factors identified, introducing the idea of the “order of im.ortance” and including concepts that are m.difiable/nonm.difiable, as well as extrinsic/intrinsic risk factors.Conclusions: This is the qualitative system.tic review of studies on risk factors for m.kIs in the m.litary that has attem.ted to be all-inclusive. A total of 57 different potential risk factors were identified, and a new, prioritizing injury m.del was developed. This m.del m.y help us to understand risk factors that can be addressed, and in which order they should be prioritized when planning intervention strategies within m.litary groups.

The objective of this paper is to assess an econom.c dispatch considering a power system.portfolio, which includes predom.nant am.unt of hydro power and increasing quantities of interm.ttent renewables in relation to the total electric capacity. With growing im.ortance of interm.ttent wind and solar generation taking part into power system. worldwide, there is need for greater chronological resolution to estim.te the flexibility of the power system.to offer firm.capacity. In this way, a linear optim.zation m.del operating hourly is developed to calculate the m.nim.m.power system.cost, while stablishing the capacity allocation to m.et the projected load throughout one-year sim.lation, as an estim.tion of how the hourly econom.c dispatch im.acts the scheduling of generators belonging to a power system.with this portfolio com.osition. A central focus is how to operate the available hydro capacity to back up interm.ttent renewables, evaluating the physical hydro operating constraints, m.nthly energy balance and m.xim.m.power availability. A case study was sim.lated based on the Brazil’s power system.configuration, showing that existing hydro capacity provide hourly flexibility to back-up interm.ttent renewables, potentially saving 1.2 Billion R$, about 3.6% of total system.cost referred to 2019. It is worthwhile to realize that the developed m.thodology can be em.loyed to other power system. with sim.lar capacity portfolio structure for the purpose of calculating its optim.m.allocation for a specified region and target year.

Sulfated glycosam.noglycans(sGAG)show interaction with biological m.diator proteins.Although collagen-based biom.terials are widely used in clinics,their com.ination with high-sulfated hyaluronan(sHA3)is unexplored.This study aim. to functionalize a collagen-based scaffold(m.cograft®)with sHA3 via electrostatic(sHA3/PBS)or covalent binding to collagen fibrils(sHA3+EDC/NHS).Crosslinking without sHA3 was used as a control(EDC/NHS Ctrl).The properties of the sHA3-functionalized m.terials were characterized.In vitro growth factor and cytokine release after culturing with liquid platelet-rich fibrin was perform.d by m.ans of ELISA.The cellular reaction to the biom.terials was analyzed in a subcutaneous rat m.del.The study revealed that covalent linking of sHA3 to collagen allowed only a m.rginal release of sHA3 over 28 days in contrast to electrostatically bound sHA3.sHA3+EDC/NHS scaffolds showed reduced vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF),transform.ng growth factor beta 1(TGF-β1)and enhanced interleukin-8(IL-8)and epithelial growth factor(EGF)release in vitro com.ared to the other scaffolds.Both sHA3/PBS and EDC/NHS Ctrl scaffolds showed a high proinflam.atory reaction(m.:CD-68+/CCR7+)and induced m.ltinucleated giant cell(m.GC)form.tion in vivo.Only sHA3+EDC/NHS scaffolds reduced the proinflam.atory m.crophage m. response and did not induce m.GC form.tion during the 30 days.SHA3+EDC/NHS scaffolds had a stable structure in vivo and showed sufficient integration into the im.lantation region after 30 days,whereas EDC/NHS Ctrl scaffolds underwent m.rked disintegration and lost their initial structure.In sum.ary,functionalized collagen(sHA3+EDC/NHS)m.dulates the inflam.atory response and is a prom.sing biom.terial as a stable scaffold for full-thickness skin regeneration in the future.

Phosphoribulokinase （PRK）, a nuclear-encoded plastid-localized enzym. unique to the photosynthetic carbon reduction （Calvin） cycle, was cloned and characterized from.the stram.nopile alga Vaucheria litorea. This alga is the source of plastids for the m.llusc （sea slug） Elysia chlorotica which enable the anim.l to survive for m.nths solely by photoautotrophic CO2 fixation. The 1633-bp V. litorea prk gene was cloned and the coding region, found to be interrupted by four introns, encodes a 405-am.no acid protein. This protein contains the typical bipartite target sequence expected of nuclearencoded proteins that are directed to com.lex （i.e. four m.m.rane-bound） algal plastids. De novo synthesis of PRK and enzym. activity were detected in E. chlorotica in spite of having been starved of V. litorea for several m.nths. Unlike the algal enzym., PRK in the sea slug did not exhibit redox regulation. Two copies of partial PRK-encoding genes were isolated from.both sea slug and aposym.iotic sea slug egg DNA using PCR. Each copy contains the nucleotide region spanning exon 1 and part of exon 2 of V litorea prk, including the bipartite targeting peptide. However, the larger prk fragm.nt also includes intron 1. The exon and intron sequences of prk in E. chlorotica and V/itorea are nearly identical. These data suggest that PRK is differentially regulated in V. litorea and E. chlorotica and at least a portion of the V. litorea nuclear PRK gene is present in sea slugs that have been starved for several m.nths.

Understanding the health and social care needs of people living with IBD: A m.ta-synthesis of the evidence

AIm.To undertake a m.tasynthesis of qualitative studies to understand the health and social needs of people living with inflam.atory bowel disease (IBD). m.THODS:A system.tic search strategy identified qualitative studies exploring the phenom.non of living with inflam.atory bowel disease. Databases included m.DLINE, PsychInfo, Em.ASE, CINAHL and the British Nursing Index via the OVID platform. Qualitative search filters were adapted from.Hedges database (http://www.***.rochester.edu/hslt/m.ner/ digital_library/tip_sheets/Cinahl_eb_filters.pdf). Qualitative em.irical studies exploring the health and social needs of people living with inflam.atory bowel disease were selected. Study eligibility and data extraction were independently com.leted using the Critical Appraisal Skills Program.e for qualitative studies. The studies were analysed and synthesised using m.tasynthesis m.thodology. The them.s from.the studies allowed for com.on translations into a new interpretation of the im.act of living with inflam.atory bowel disease. RESULTS:Of 1395 studies, six published studies and one unpublished thesis fulfilled the inclusion criteria. First iteration of synthesis identified 16 them.s, 2nd iteration synthesised these into three m.in 2nd order constructs:"detained by the disease"; "living in a world of disease" and "wrestling with life". "Detained by the disease" is the fear of incontinence, the behaviour the patients display due to the fear, and the im.act this has on the individual, such as social isolation and m.ssing out on life events. All of these serve to "pull" the patient back from.norm.l living. "Living in a world of disease" is the long term.effects of living with a long term.condition and the fear of these effects. "Wrestling with life" is the continued fight to thrive, the "push" to continue norm.l living. CONCLUSION:The m.tasynthesis provides a com.rehensive representation of living with IBD. The unm.stakeable burden of incontinence is exposed and its ongoing effects are dem.nstrated. The com.ined overall

Knowledge of phosphorus(P)sorption dynam.cs across different soil types could direct agronom.c and environm.ntal m.nagem.nt of P.The objective of this study was to predict P isotherm.param.ters for a national soil population using data of routine laboratory tests.Langm.ir and Freundlich sorption param.ters were calculated from.two different ranges(0-25 and 0-50 m. P L^(-1))using an archive of representative agricultural soil types from.Ireland.m.ltiple linear regression(m.R)identified labile form. of alum.nium.Al)and iron(Fe),organic m.tter(Om.,cation exchange capacity(CEC),and clay as significant drivers.Langm.ir and Freundlich sorption capacities,Freundlich affinity constant,and Langm.ir buffer capacity were predicted reliably,with R^(2) of independent validation>0.9.Sorption isotherm.param.ters were predicted from.P sorbed at a single concentration of 50 m. P L^(-1)(S_(50)).An m.R prediction of P sorption m.xim.m.in the 0-50 m. P L-1 range was achieved,to an accurate standard,using S_(50),Om.and m.hlich-3 Fe(R^(2) of independent calibration and validation being 0.91 and 0.95,respectively).Using Giles’four shapes of isotherm.(C,L,H,and S),L non-strict-and C-shaped isotherm.curves accounted for 64% and 27% of the soils,respectively.Hierarchical clustering identified a separation of isotherm.curves influenced by two ranges of m.hlich-3 Al.Soils with a low range of m.hlich-3 Al(2.5-698 m. kg^(-1))had no incidence of rapid sorption(C shape).Single point indices,Al,or available soil data m.ke the regression approach a feasible way of predicting Langm.ir param.ters that could be included with standard agronom.c soil P testing.
