The sustainability of rice production continues to be a subject of uncertainty and inquiry attributed to shifts in climatic conditions. In light of the impending climate change crisis and the high labor and water costs accompanying it, direct-seeded rice(DSR) is unquestionably one of the most practical solutions. Despite its resource and climate-friendly advantages, early maturing rice faces weed competitiveness and seedling establishment challenges. Resolving these issues is crucial for promoting its wider adoption among farmers, presenting it as a more effective sustainable rice cultivation method globally. Diverse traditional and contemporary breeding methods are employed to mitigate the limitations of the DSR approach, leveraging advanced techniques such as speed breeding and genome editing. Focusing on key traits like mesocotyl length elongation, early seedling vigor, root system architecture, and weed competitiveness holds promise for transformative improvements in DSR adaptation at a broader scale within farming communities. This review aims to summarize how these features contribute to increased crop production in DSR conditions and explore the research efforts focusing on enhancing DSR adaptation through these traits. Emphasizing the pivotal role of these game-changing traits in DSR adaptation, our analysis sheds light on their potential transformative impact and offers valuable insights for advancing DSR practices.

Abstract:Fog computing provides quality of service for cloud *** the data computation intensifies,edge computing becomes ***,mobile fog computing is used for reducing traffic and the time for data computation in the *** previous studies,software-defined networking(SDN)and network functions virtualization(NFV)were used separately in edge *** industrial and academic research is tackling to integrate SDN and NFV in different environments to address the challenges in performance,reliability,and ***/NFV is still in *** traditional Internet of things(IoT)data analysis system is only based on a linear and time-variant system that needs an IoT data system with a high-precision *** paper proposes a combined architecture of SDN and NFV on an edge node server for IoT devices to reduce the computational complexity in cloud-based fog *** provides a generalization structure of the forwarding plane,which is separated from the control ***,NFV concentrates on virtualization by combining the forwarding model with virtual network functions(VNFs)as a single or chain of VNFs,which leads to interoperability and *** orchestrator layer in the proposed software-defined NFV is responsible for handling real-time tasks by using an edge node server through the SDN controller via four actions:task creation,modification,operation,and *** proposed architecture is simulated on the EstiNet simulator,and total time delay,reliability,and satisfaction are used as evaluation *** simulation results are compared with the results of existing architectures,such as software-defined unified virtual monitoring function and ASTP,to analyze the performance of the proposed *** analysis results indicate that our proposed architecture achieves better performance in terms of total time delay(1800 s for 200 IoT devices),reliability(90%),and satisfaction(90%).

Magnesium alloys have gained increasing attention for biomedical applications due to their biocompatibility and the ***(HA)is known to be a highly bioactive because of its similar chemical and crystallographic structures to ***,HA is believed to be a potential ceramic material for the fabrication of Mg based composites,to combine the advantages of both Mg and ***,in general,the composites known to be more susceptible to corrosion attack than the matrix ***,in the present work,Sn is used as an alloying element to evaluate its effect on mechanical as well as corrosion properties of Mg/HA *** with 5 wt%HA and Mg-1 wt%Sn-5 wt%HA composites were prepared separately by stir assisted squeeze casting *** phase analysis and microstructure were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD)and scanning electron microscope(SEM)coupled with energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS)*** properties were evaluated by conducting the compression and micro hardness *** properties of as-cast composites were studied by linear polarization,Tafel and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS)*** results of both XRD and SEM-EDS revealed that the main constitutional phases of as-cast Mg/HA composites were a-Mg and HA whereas,in Mg-Sn/HA composites,the phase Mg^Sn was observed along with fine distribution of HA *** both the cases,no interfacial reactions *** yield strength,ultimate compression strength and hardness were found to be increased with the addition of Sn in Mg/HA ***,the addition of Sn also played an important role in increasing the corrosion resistance of the Mg/HA composites which was attributed the refinement of grain size and the formation of Mg2Sn phase along the grain ***,it was concluded that the addition of Sn improves both mechanical and corrosion properties of Mg/HA composites.

Magnesium(Mg)and its alloys have been widely researched for orthopedic applications *** alloys have stupendous advantages over the commercially available stainless steel,Co-Cr-Ni alloy and titanium *** date,extensive mechanical,in-vitro and in-vivo studies have been done to improve the biomedical performance of Mg alloys through alloying,processing conditions,surface modification *** review comprehensively describes the strategies for improving the mechanical and degradation performance of Mg alloys through properly tailoring the composition of alloying elements,reinforcements and processing *** also highlights the status and progress of research in to(i)the selection of nutrient elements for alloying,reinforcement and its effects(ii)type of Mg alloy system(binary,ternary and quaternary)and composites(iii)grain refinement for strengthening through severe plastic deformation *** it also emphasizes on the importance of Mg composites with regard to hard tissue applications.

Alcohol-Induced Cardiomyopathy Presenting with Left Ventricular Apical Thrombus

Background: Chronic excessive alcohol consumption has been strongly associated with alcohol-induced cardiomyopathy (AC) in patients with no evidence of coronary artery disease (CAD). AC may cause cardiovascular complications and significant impact on the quality of life. We discuss an interesting case of dilated cardiomyopathy, associated complication, diagnostic work-up and management. Case Report: A young male presented to our service with worsening dyspnea, orthopnea, and scrotal and lower extremity edema. On average, he consumed a pack of 12 beers every day and had a 30-pack-years smoking history. He was found to be in acute heart failure with evidence of pulmonary edema and cardiomegaly on chest imaging. He had biventricular dilatation and severely reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) 15% in addition to a thrombus in the LV apex. The cardiac catheterization was unremarkable for CAD. He was diuresed appropriately resulting in significant weight loss and resolution of symptoms. LV thrombus was treated with unfractionated heparin infusion that was transitioned to warfarin. He was maintained on guidelines-directed medical therapy for heart failure. Extensive counseling was provided regarding alcohol and tobacco cessation. On follow-up echocardiogram, his LVEF improved and there was no evidence of LV thrombus. We think, the readership will benefit from our experience of treating a case of AC, and the importance of clinical history. Conclusion: Chronic excessive alcohol use is detrimental to cardiac function leading to alcohol-induced cardiomyopathy. A careful approach to clinical history of alcohol consumption and prompt diagnostic workup negative for ischemic causes may confirm the diagnosis. Cardiac function improves with guidelines-directed medical therapy for heart failure and abstinence from alcohol.

Teak （Tectona grandis L.f.） is a popular hardwood species native to South and South-East Asia. The possible association of ampli- fied fragment length polymorphism （AFLP） marker with morphological variables of eleven important characters viz. girth at breast height （GBH）, height of tree, bole height, branch knots, presence of fluting, spiral stem, leaf hair, leaf length/breadth ratio, branching pattern, bark colour and petiole shape for nine natural populations comprising 180 genotypes of teak （9 populations x 20 trees）. The phenogram constructed using Euclidean distances for the eleven morphological characters showed that the populations were not grouped according to their geographical origin. The Mantel＇s test for pairwise correlation between Euclidean distances of different morphological variables and genetic distances from AFLP data revealed that only petiole character （r =0.269; p =0.046） and height of tree （r =0,200; p =0.001） were significantly correlated with that of AFLP data matrix. The nine populations in this study covered a geographic area of about 1000 km stretch along the Western Ghat of South India. A test of correlation between genetic and geographic distance matrices revealed a significant positive correlation （r =0.475; p =0.009）. The lack of perfect congruence between morphological and molecular data except for geo-graphic distance, tree height and petiole character suggested that the morphological system might be useful for the morphotypes management but not appropriate to study the genetic structure of the teak populations.

Background: Anomalous coronary artery (CAA) is a rare condition occurring in less than 1% of individuals. The most common form consists of the left circumflex artery (LCx) arising from the right coronary sinus. These vascular anomalies have been associated with an increased risk of sudden cardiac death. We present a rare case of an anomalous coronary artery in a patient with all three coronary arteries arising from a shared ostium. Case presentation: A 67-year-old transgender Caucasian male with medical history of dyslipidemia and hypertension presented for ischemic workup due to occasional chest pain prior to undergoing male to female gender reassignment surgery. A Regadenosan stress test with SPECT myocardial perfusion imaging revealed moderate sized, moderate intensity perfusion defect reversible in inferolateral wall and fixed in inferior wall. Coronary angiography revealed anomalous origin of the coronary arteries, with all three major coronary arteries arising from a shared, single, ostium originating from the right coronary cusp. Coronary computed tomographic angiography (CCTA) showed a “malignant course” of LAD running between the pulmonary artery and aorta. A conservative management was pursued in view of mild symptoms with close follow ups. Conclusion: It is important to evaluate all coronary artery anomalies (CAA) for a “malignant” course due to its associated risk for various cardiac events including sudden cardiac death. Surgical management is indicated in high-risk patients with malignant courses. However, asymptomatic patients and those with mild symptoms with or without malignant course can be followed closely.

Platinum containing compounds have shown antineoplastic potential, but their clinical applications have been limited by high toxicity. Ruthenium containing complexes have long been known to be well suited for biological applications, and have long been utilized as replacements to popular platinum based-drugs. Here, we report a novel series of ruthenium（ll） arene compounds bearing thiosemicarba- zone and isonicotinylhydrazone ligands with potent anticancer activity their structure activity relationships and apoptosis was studied. The cytotoxic activity of the new ruthenium（ll） arene compounds has been evaluated in several cell lines （Molt 4/C8, LI 210, CEM, HL60 and BEL7402）. Among them, ten complexes were found to be excellent in vitro growth inhibitory activity against various cell lines with IC50 in the sub-micromolar range.
