Atlas of heating:Identifying regional climate-dependent heat demands in residential buildings of Iran

Due to different latitudes and variation of altitude in geographical areas in Iran,the climatic conditions of Iran are such that the variations of the heating degree-days(HDD)are in a broad range of 60 to 3000 for residential buildings in different climatic *** addition,in many cases,the building design and construction processes follow patterns which do not necessarily meet national energy requirements and *** on these two reasons,it is essential to identify the current status of energy consumption indicators in residential *** way,it gets more convenient to adopt new strategies to improve the current state of energy consumption of *** this study,heating energy consumption indices of residential buildings is *** the combination of the results of statistical data analysis,questionnaires,filled in for 500 buildings,and a reference building simulation in different climates of Iran,the heating atlas of residential buildings was *** to the results,the average heating energy index(HE1)of buildings in Iran can be less than 1 to more than 41.3(m^(3)(N.G)/(m^(2)-yr))depending on climatic conditions and building design and construction ***,in the coldest center of province,the average of this index is 26.3(m^(3)(N.G)/(m^(2)-yr))in the hottest one that is equal *** variations of the thermal base load(supply of hot water)varied from less than 13.12 to more than 378.84(m^(3)(N.G)/(person-yr)).In provincial capitals,the lowest thermal base load index(TBLI)of buildings is 24.78 and the highest is 226.49(m^(3)(N.G)/(person-yr)).In this paper,beside charts and tables,results of heating energy consumption indices are also presented in the form of graphical atlases,*** contour plots,to deliver a better picture of the whole country.

Rigorous assessment of heterogeneous electrocatalysts for electrochemical water splitting has been a critical issue mainly due to insufficient standard protocols to measure and report experimental *** this perspective,we highlight some common pitfalls when measuring and reporting electrocatalytic data,which should be avoided to ensure the accuracy and reproducibility and to advance the water splitting *** advocate to prevent the introduction of artefacts from the counter and reference electrodes,as well as the impurities in the electrolyte when conducting electrocatalyst activity *** addition,we encourage the use of the electrochemically active surface area(ECSA)-normalized current densities to represent the intrinsic activity of the reported catalysts for a better comparison with previously known *** ECSA measurement methods should be employed based on the nature of *** made in this perspective will hopefully assist in identifying advanced catalysts for water splitting research.

Identification of novel catalytic features of endo-β-1,4-glucanase produced by mulberry longicorn beetle Apriona germari

Mulberry longicorn beetle, Apriona germari, has been reported to produce two endo-β-1,4-glucanases or AgEGases (accession Nos. Q6SS52 and Q5XQD1). AgEGase sequence contains catalytic motif (amino acid residues 37~48), which is the characteristic of family Glycohydrolase 45 and is identified as the substrate binding site. The application of bioinformatics ap-proaches includes sequence analysis, structural modeling and inhibitor docking to relate the structure and function of AgEGases. We have dissected the sequence and structure of AgEGase catalytic motif and compared it with crystal structure of Humicola insolens endoglucanases V. The results show an involvement of sulfur containing amino acid residues in the active site of the enzyme. Cys residues and position of disulfide bonds are highly conserved between the two structures of endoglucanases of A. germari. Surface calculation of AgEGase structure in the absence of Cys residues reveals greater accessibility of the catalytic site to the substrate involving Asp42, a highly conserved residue. For the inhibition study, tannin-based structure was docked into the catalytic site of AgEGase using ArgusLab 4.0 and it resulted in a stable complex formation. It is suggested that the inhibition could occur through formation of a stable transition state analog-enzyme complex with the tannin-based inhibitor, as observed with other insect cellulases in our laboratory.

The effect of disc-shaped gastric resection of anastomosis site on reducing postoperative dysphagia and stricture after esophagogastric anastomosis in patients with esophageal cancer

Background:Esophagectomy remains the most reliable technique for managing esophageal cancer,but anastomotic complications including postoperative leak,ischemia and stricture negatively affect outcomes of this specific *** aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of a novel method of esophagogastric anastomosis for reducing postoperative dysphagia and stricture ***:Eighty patients who were scheduled for esophagectomy due to esophageal cancer were randomly assigned into two groups:intervention and control(40 each).In the control group,the esophagogastric anastomosis was performed with a linear gastric incision,whilst in the intervention group a new method of disc-shaped gastric resection for anastomosis was *** outcomes were compared between the two ***:The incidence of postoperative dysphagia and anastomotic stricture was significantly lower in the disc-shaped resection group(dysphagia 45%vs 75%,P=0.02;stricture 12.5%vs 32.5%,P=0.03),whilst the length of stay in an intensive care unit(ICU),anastomotic leakage and other complications were not significantly different between the two groups(all P>0.05).Conclusion:Anastomotic complications can be reduced by improving surgical *** decreased incidence of postoperative dysphagia and anastomotic stricture in our study may be partly due to providing the proper diameter for the site of anastomosis when using the disc-shaped gastric resection ***,this new method can improve the clinical outcomes of patients who undergo esophagectomy with esophagogastric anastomosis.

Oral manifestation in inflammatory bowel disease:A review

Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs), including Crohn’s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis, not only affect the intestinal tract but also have an extraintestinal involvement within the oral cavity. These oral manifestations may assist in the diagnosis and the monitoring of disease activity, whilst ignoring them may lead to an inaccurate diagnosis and useless and expensive workups. Indurated tag-like lesions, cobblestoning, and mucogingivitis are the most common specific oral findings encountered in CD cases. Aphthous stomatitis and pyostomatitis vegetans are among non-specific oral manifestations of IBD. In differential diagnosis, side effects of drugs, infections, nutritional deficiencies, and other inflammatory conditions should also be considered. Treatment usually involves managing the underlying intestinal disease. In severe cases with local symptoms, topical and/or systemic steroids and immunosuppressive drugs might be used.

Digital mapping of soil phosphorous sorption parameters (PSPs) using environmental variables and machine learning algorithms

In this study some soil phosphorous sorption parameters(PSPs)by using different machine learning models(Cubist(Cu),random forest(RF),support vector machines(SVM)and Gaussian process regression(GPR))were *** results showed that using the topographic attributes as the sole auxiliary variables was not adequate for predicting the ***,remote sensing data and its combination with soil properties were reliably used to predict PSPs(R^(2)=0.41 for MBC by RF model,R^(2)=0.49 for PBC by Cu model,R^(2)=0.37 for SPR by Cu model,and R^(2)=0.38 for SBC by RF model).The lowest RMSE values were obtained for MBC by RF model,PBC by SVM model,SPR by Cubist model and SBC by RF *** results also showed that remote sensing data as the easily available datasets could reliably predict PSPs in the given study *** outcomes of variable importance analysis revealed that among the soil properties cation exchange capacity(CEC)and clay content,and among the remote sensing indices B5/B7,Midindex,Coloration index,Saturation index,and OSAVI were the most imperative factors for predicting *** studies are recommended to use other proximally sensed data to improve PSPs prediction to precise decision-making throughout the landscape.

A consensus meeting of national experts from all major national hepatobiliary centres in the country was held on May 26,2023,at the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute&Research Centre(PKLI&RC)after initial consultations with the *** Pakistan Society for the Study of Liver Diseases(PSSLD)and PKLI&RC jointly organised this *** effort was based on a comprehensive literature review to establish national practice guidelines for hilar cholangiocarcinoma(hCCA).The consensus was that hCCA is a complex disease and requires a multidisciplinary team approach to best manage these *** coordinated effort can minimise delays and give patients a chance for curative treatment and effective *** diagnostic and staging workup includes high-quality computed tomography,magnetic resonance imaging,and magnetic resonance *** cytology or biopsy utilizing endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography is a mainstay for ***,histopathologic confirmation is not always required before *** ultrasound with fine needle aspiration of regional lymph nodes and positron emission tomography scan are valuable adjuncts for *** only curative treatment is the surgical resection of the biliary tree based on the Bismuth-Corlette *** patients with unresectable hCCA can be considered for liver *** chemotherapy should be offered to patients with a high risk of *** use of preoperative biliary drainage and the need for portal vein embolisation should be based on local multidisciplinary *** with acute cholangitis can be drained with endoscopic or percutaneous biliary *** chemotherapy with cisplatin and gemcitabine has shown improved survival in patients with irresectable and recurrent hCCA.
