We study a vacation queueing system with a single server simultaneously dealing with an M/G/1 and an M/D/1 queue. Two classes of units, priority and non-priority, arrive at the system in two independent Poisson streams. Under a non-preemptive priority rule, the server provides a general service to the priority units and a deterministic service to the non-priority units. We further assume that the server may take a vacation of random length just after serving the last priority unit present in the system. We obtain steady state queue size distribution at a random epoch. Corresponding results for some special cases, including the known results of the M/G/1 and the M/D/1 queues, have been derived.

There are evidences indicating that cysteine proteases play an essential role in malaria parasites;therefore, an obvious area of investigation is the inhibition of these enzymes to treat malaria. Small cysteine protease inhibitors of malaria are well studied, but macromolecular nature of inhibitor is a new field to explore. In malarial cysteine proteases, there are macromolecular endogenous inhibitors playing important roles in regulation of the cysteine protease activity of parasite and host. Recent studies suggested that there are known and characterized endogenous inhibitors like falstatin present in P. falciparum, PbICP (inhibitor of cysteine protease in P. berghei), PyICP (inhibitor of cysteine protease in P. yoelli), and other macromolecular inhibitors which are the prodomain of enzyme itself regulating the activity of the mature enzyme. All the known macromolecular endogenous inhibitors are using specific loop-like structure to interact with malarial cysteine proteases. The majority of macromolecular inhibitors are competitive in nature, and block access to the active site of their target protease, but do not bind in a strictly substrate-like manner. They rather interact with the protease subsites and catalytic residues in a non-catalytically competent manner. In future, designing inhibitors based on these protein-protein interactions will be a new approach in the field of malaria. Since macromolecular inhibitors can gain potency through the burial of a large surface area and specificity through contacts with secondary binding sites critical for inhibition, and could be less prone to drug resistant mutation.

Nano size lithium ferrite was prepared through aerosol route and characterized using TEM, XRD, magnetic measurements and M?ssbauer spectroscopy. The particle size of as obtained samples were found to be ~10 nm through TEM, that increases upto ~80 nm on annealing at 1200 oC. The unit cell parameter ‘a’ calculated using XRD, confirms the formation of ?-LiFe5O8. Room temperature M?ssbauer spectra of as obtained sample of all the ferrites exhibited broad doublet suggesting super paramagnetic nature. This doublet further resolved into two doublets and assigned to the surface region atoms and internal region atoms of the particles. The annealed samples (1200 oC) show broad sextets, which were fitted with two sextets indicating different local environment of both tetrahedrally and octahedrally coordinated Fe-cation. Cation distribution obtained from the X-ray, magnetic and M?ssbauer data confirms that the three fifth of the iron atom goes in to the octahedral site.

The Kangchenjunga Landscape (KL) in the Eastern Himalayas is a transboundary complex shared by Bhutan, India, and Nepal. It forms a part of the ‘Himalayan Biodiversity Hotspot’ and is one of the biologically richest landscapes in the Eastern Himalayas. In this paper, we use secondary information to review and consolidate the knowledge on the flora of the KL. We reviewed 215 journal articles, analysed the history of publications on the flora of the KL, their publication pattern in terms of temporal and spatial distribution and key research areas. Our review shows that the landscape has a long history of botanical research that dates back to the 1840s and progressed remarkably after the 1980s. Most of the studies have been carried out in India, followed by Nepal and Bhutan. The majority of these have been vegetation surveys, followed by research on ethnobotanical aspects and Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs). This paper describes the forest types and characteristic species of the KL and details the species richness, diversity and dominant families of seed plants. A total of 5198 species of seed plants belonging to 1548 genera and 216 families have been recorded from the landscape, including 3860 dicots, 1315 monocots and 23 gymnosperms. Among families, Orchidaceae is the most diversely represented family in terms of species richness. This paper also draws attention to the threatened and endemic flora of the KL, including 44 species that are threatened at national and global level and 182 species that are endemic. Finally, the paper reviews the major challenges facing the KL, the conservation efforts and practices that are currently in place and recommends systematic and comprehensive floral surveys, particularly long-term data collection and monitoring and transboundary collaboration, to address the existing knowledge gaps on floral diversity of the KL.

Factors affecting traveling wave protection

This paper presents analysis of factors influencing traveling wave protection. Based on analysis of traveling wave transients, detection of the fault inceptions on transmission lines can be achieved. Influencing factors in this analysis consist of signal-to-noise ratio, frequency response of measuring equipments and nature of the faults. The related case studies for these individual factors were performed. The results indicate that the measured signals as inputs to relaying unit could contain undesired high frequency components due to low signal-to-noise ratio or even lose the desired high frequency traveling wave transients because of limited frequency response of measuring equipments. Furthermore the sufficient energy of traveling waves is influenced by nature of the fault which will also affect reliable fault detection.

背景创造力被定义为一种能产生新的(原创的,独特的)、有用的、有衍生性加工过程的能力。发散思维是创造力的一个重要且可测量的部分。托兰斯创造性思维测验量表(TTCT)是应用最广泛的创造力测量工具。文化、智力、人格、情绪反应及性别几种因素会影响创造力。本研究对中国和毛里求斯年龄介于13至16岁的中学生进行了创造性能力的调查。此外,对性别差异在创造性上的差异也进行了测量。同时,发现在中国与毛里求斯学生的研究中发现,智力、人格品质对创造力有一定的预测性。方法本研究的被试是296名来自中国和毛里求斯的中学生,其中有151名来自中国大连的中学生(76名男生,75名女生),剩余145名为来自毛里求斯的中学生(70名男生,75名女生),他们都是随机入组。本研究除一般问题调查表外,采用了四份调查问卷,第一份是正性-负性情绪量表(PANAS),第二份是托兰斯创造性思维测验量表(TTCT),第三份和第四份分别为大五人格测试(NEO-FFI)和瑞文标准型推理测验(SPM)。所有测验在学生在校期间在标准监督过程中进行。所有的问卷原始分数均通过标准过程进行计算。本研究采用SPSS22.0对实验数据进行统计分析。所有被试均自愿参加。结果在中国组中男生较多(50.3%),在毛里求斯组中女生较多(51.7%)。两组的性别分布没有显著的差异(X2=0.13,p=0.406)。中国组的年龄均值为14.04±0.70岁,毛里求斯组略高,为14.62±0.95岁。两组在年龄上具有显著性差异(t=-6.00,p=0.001)。独立样本t检验显示,中国学生在以下几项上得分较高且具有显著性差异:智力(中国组:45.89 ± 8.17;毛里求斯组:26.15 ± 8.23;t=4.247,p=0.000)、独创性(中国组:23.71±6.36;毛里求斯组:21.97±7.54;t=2.154,p=0.032)、标题抽象性(中国组:9.07±3.86;毛里求斯组:5.34±4.03;t=8.145,p=0.000)、创造性指数(中国组:101.95±12.56;毛里求斯组:97.99±13.92;t=2.567,p=0.011)、外向性(中国组:33.62±7.33;毛里求斯组:28.20±5.65;t=7.103;p=0.000)、开放性(中国组:31.13±6.67;毛里求斯组:26.76±6.09;t=5.873;p=0.000),但是精致性上,中国组显著低于毛里求斯组(中国:3.95±1.24;毛里求斯4.68 ±1.79;t=-4.088;p=0.000)。两组间没有显著差异的项目包括:正性情绪(中国组:33.61 ±8.61;毛里求斯组:34.92±8.33;t=-1.328,p=0.185)、负性情绪(中国组:20.38±6.57;毛里求斯组:21.38±7.35;t=-1.230,p=0.220)、流畅性(中国组:26.90±6.71;毛里求斯组:26.15±8.23;t=0.860,p=0.391)、抗过早封闭性(中国组:10.33±2.76;毛里求斯组:10.24±2.25;t=0.292,p=0.771)、神经质(中国组:24.61±5.83;毛里求斯组:24.94±5.52;t=0.612,p=0.336)、顺从性(中国组:26.93±4.51;毛里求斯组:27.29±5.73;t=0.606;p=0.545)、严谨性(中国组:31.87±6.67;毛里求斯组:31.30±6.21;t=0.770;p=0.442)。中国女中学生在创造力量表的各项得分上普遍高于男生,且在独创性(male:22.39±6.66;female:25.04±5.78;t=-2.605;p=0.010),标题抽象性(male:8.38±3.57;female:9.77 ±4.03;t=-2.247;p=0.026),创造性指数(male:99.13±12.94;female:104.81 ± 11.55;t=-2.845;p=0.005)上男生与女生有显著性差异。而在流畅性(t=-1.795;p=0.075)、精致性(t=-1.795;p=0.075)和抗过早封闭性(t=-1.972;p=0.050)上无显著差异。毛里求斯组也获得了相似的结果,女生在创造力量表上各项得分均比男生高,且在流畅性(male:23.00± 7.90;female:29.09± 7.45;t=-4.780;p=0.000)、独创性(male:19.33±7.06;female:24.43±7.16;t=-4.312;p=0.000)、精致性(male:3.96 ± 1.31;female:5.35± 1.91;t=-5.064;p=0.000)及创造力指数(male:92.80±12.60;female:1

Effect of Zn Substitution on the Magnetic Properties of Cobalt Ferrite Nano Particles Prepared Via Sol-Gel Route

Zinc substituted cobalt ferrite nanoparticles (CoxZn1-xFe2O4, with x = 0.0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.8 and 1.0) were prepared via sol-gel route and the effect of zinc concentration on saturation magnetization and lattice parameter were investigated. The particle sizes of the as obtained samples were found to be ~10 nm which increases upto ~92 nm on annealing at 1000oC. The frequency bands near 564-588 cm-1 and 425-442 cm-1 are assigned to the tetrahedral and octahedral clusters which confirm the presence of M-O stretching band in ferrites. The unit cell parameter ‘a’ increases linearly with increasing concentration of zinc due to larger ionic radii of Zn2+ ion . It was found that this substitution allows tunable changes in the magnetic properties of cobalt ferrite. Interestingly, saturation magnetization first increases upto x = 0.4 and then decreases for higher Zn substitution, thus tunable changes in magnetic properties of cobalt ferrite are possible. Source of such behaviour could be the variation of exchange interaction between the tetrahedral and the octahedral sites.

We study a two stage queuing model where the server provides two stages of service one by one in succession. We consider reneging to occur when the server is unavailable during the system breakdown or vacation periods. We concentrate on deriving the steady state solutions by using supplementary variable technique and calculate the mean queue length and mean waiting time. Further some special cases are also discussed and numerical examples are presented.

An efficient and reproducible procedure for clonal multiplication through in vitro culture of Rauwolfia serpentina (L.) Benth. (Sarpagandha) is standardized. The different explants like leaf and stem were used for callus induction and regeneration of the complete plantlets. High-frequency callusing was induced in leaf and stem explant of Rauwolfia serpentina on modified Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium supplemented with 2.5 mg/l 2,4-D. Maximum regeneration of shoots from callus (90%) was observed in MS medium supplemented with 0.2 mg/l NAA and 1.5 mg/l BA. However direct regeneration (96%) was recorded best in MS medium supplemented with BAP 2.5 mg/l. The maximum number of shoots per explant (6.5) was also highest in this phyto-hormone combination. Higher induction of root (100%) was observed in MS medium supplemented with NAA 0.5 mg/l. The rooted plantlets were successfully established in the field.
