Science Letters:Nitrogen doping of activated carbon loading Fe_2O_3 and activity in carbon-nitric oxide reaction

Nitrogen doping of activated carbon loading Fe2O3 was performed by annealing in ammonia, and the activity of the modified carbon for NO reduction was studied in the presence of oxygen. Results show that Fe2O3 enhances the amount of surface oxygen complexes and facilitates nitrogen incorporation in the carbon, especially in the form of pyridinic nitrogen. The modified carbon shows excellent activity for NO reduction in the low temperature regime （〈500℃） because of the cooperative effect of Fe2O3 and the surface nitrogen species.

Liquid surfaces can be depressed by applying acoustic radiation force. The balancebetween the acoustic radiation force, surface tension force, and buoyantforce sustainsthe stable dimple depression. Beyond a certain threshold, higher acoustic radiationforce leads to instability and bubble formation. The bubble size is determined by theacoustic radiation force and the liquid surface tension. Effective management of bubble generation can be achieved by controlling acoustic radiation *** methodfor creating depression on liquid surfaces and generating bubbles is described, whichrequires neither gas supply nor direct contact with equipment.

Selective upgrading of C=O bonds to afford carboxylic acid is significant for the petrochemical industry and biomass *** we declared the efficient electrooxidation of biomass-derived aldehydes family over NiV-layered double hydroxides(LDHs) thin *** studies confirmed the hydroxyl active intermediate(-OH*) generated on the surface of NiV-LDHs films by employing electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and the electron paramagnetic resonance *** using advanced techniques,e.g.,extended X-ray absorption fine structure and high-angle annular dark-field scanning transmission electron microscopy,NiV-LDHs films with 2.6 nm could expose larger specific surface *** benzaldehyde as a model,high current density of 200 mA cm^(-2)at 1.8 V ***,81.1% conversion,77.6% yield of benzoic acid and 90.8% Faradaic efficiency were reached,which was superior to most of previous *** DFT analysis was well matched with experimental findings and documented that NiV-LDHs had high adsorption capacity for the aldehydes to suppress the side reaction,and the aldehydes were oxidized by the electrophilic hydroxyl radicals formed on *** findings offer a universal strategy for the robust upgrading of diverse biomass-derived platform chemicals.

Prediction of Cross-Tension Strength of Self-Piercing Riveted Joints Using Finite Element Simulation and XGBoost Algorithm

Self-piercing riveting(SPR)has been widely used in automobile industry,and the strength prediction of SPR joints always attracts the attention of *** this work,a prediction method of the cross-tension strength of SPR joints was proposed on the basis of finite element(FE)simulation and extreme gradient boosting decision tree(XGBoost)*** FE model of SPR process was established to simulate the plastic deformations of rivet and substrate materials and verified in terms of cross-sectional dimensions of SPR *** residual mechanical field from SPR process simulation was imported into a 2D FE model for the cross-tension testing simulation of SPR joints,and cross-tension strengths from FE simulation show a good consistence with the experiment *** on the verified FE model,the mechanical properties and thickness of substrate materials were varied and then used for FE simulation to obtain cross-tension strengths of a number of SPR joints,which were used to train the regression model based on the XGBoost algorithm in order to achieve prediction for cross-tension strength of SPR *** show that the cross-tension strengths of SPR steel/aluminum joints could be successfully predicted by the XGBoost regression model with a respective error less than 7.6%compared to experimental values.

Higher-order exceptional points(HOEPs) with extraordinary responsivity are expected to exhibit a vastly improved performance in detection-related ***,over the past few years,such an approach has been questioned due to several potential drawbacks,including the stringent parameter re quirements,fundamental resolution limits and ***,exploring the conse quence of nonlinear gain saturation in exceptional singularities of non-Hermitian systems,we offer a feasible scheme to overcome all the above *** provide a simple and intuitive example by demonstrating with both theory and circuit experiments an ’exceptional nexus’(’EX’),a HOEP with an ultra-enhanced signal-to-noise ratio(SNR),in only two coupled resonators with the aid of nonlinear *** tedious parameter tuning in a six-dimensional hyper-dimensional space is reduced to two *** feedback mechanism of nonlinear saturable gain can give a solution to the ongoing debate on the SNR of EPs in other linear *** findings advance the fundamental understanding of the peculiar topology of nonlinear non-Hermitian systems,significantly reduce the practical difficulty in EP sensing and possibly open new avenues for applications.

Lowering the synthesis temperature of boron nitride nanotubes(BNNTs)is crucial for their *** primary reason for adopting a high temperature is to enable the effective activation of highmelting-point solid *** this study,we developed a novel approach for efficiently activating boron by introducing alkali metal compounds into the conventional MgO–B *** approach can be adopted to form various low-melting-point AM–Mg–B–O growth *** growth systems have improved catalytic capability and reactivity even under low-temperature conditions,facilitating the synthesis of BNNTs at temperatures as low as 850℃.In addition,molecular dynamics simulations based on density functional theory theoretically demonstrate that the systems maintain a liquid state at low temperatures and interact with N atoms to form BN *** findings offer novel insights into the design of boron activation and are expected to facilitate research on the low-temperature synthesis of BNNTs.

This paper presents theoretical analysis of how career concerns and shareholder monitoring affect chief executive officer(CEO) agency costs. We investigate investment efficiency prior to CEO retirement based on a sample of Chinese state-owned enterprises(SOEs) during the 1999–2007 period and find that there is a significant decline in investment efficiency prior to CEO retirement, relative to other periods, and that this decline becomes less significant under stronger shareholder supervision. Our research furthers understanding of the significance of SOE incentive and monitoring mechanisms.

Females increase aggression for mating opportunities and for acquiring reproductive *** the close relationship between female aggression and mating status is widely appreciated,whether and how female aggression is regulated by mating-related cues remains poorly *** we report an interesting observation that Drosophila virgin females initiate high-frequency attacks toward mated *** identify 11-cis-vaccenyl acetate(cVA),a male-derived pheromone transferred to females during mating,which promotes virgin female *** subsequently reveal a cVA-responsive neural circuit consisting of four orders of neurons,including Or67d,DA1,aSP-g,and pC1 neurons,that mediate cVA-induced virgin female *** also determine that aSP-g neurons release acetylcholine(ACh)to excite pC1 neurons via the nicotinic ACh receptor nAChRα***,beyond revealing cVA as a mating-related inducer of virgin female aggression,our results identify a neural circuit linking the chemosensory perception of mating-related cues to aggressive behavior in Drosophila females.
