An intercontinental comparison of insect seed predation between introduced and native oaks

Novel interactions between introduced oaks and their natural enemies across different continents provide an opportunity to test the enemy release hypothesis(ERH)at local and global *** on the ERH,we assessed the impacts of native seed-feeding insects on introduced and native oaks within and among *** combined a common-garden experiment in China and biogeographic literature surveys to measure seed predation by insects and the proportion of acorn embryos surviving after insect infestation among 4 oak species with different geographical origins:Quercus mongolica origin from China,*** and *** from Europe,and *** from North *** supporting the ERH,oaks in introduced continents escaped seed predation compared to those in native continents and compared to other native oaks in introduced ***-garden comparisons showed that total acorn infestation rate of introduced ***(section Lobatae)was considerably lower than that of native oaks(section Quercus)in China and Europe,likely because of the differences in seed traits associated with different oak *** surveys showed that seed predation of introduced oaks was lower in the introduced continent than in the native *** survival was higher in introduced *** than native oaks in China and ***,insect seed predation of recently introduced *** in China was similar to that in Europe,which is not consistent with the *** results suggest that reduced acorn attack by native insects and higher embryo survival after acorn damage could increase the establishment success or invasion risk of introduced oaks in non-native continents.

Women’s preconception health patterns in traditional Chinese medicine as a predictor of fertility outcomes

Objective: To examine the association between traditional Chinese medicine(TCM), preconception health patterns and fertility ***: A community-based prospective cohort study was conducted in China. A total of 3012 newly married women who were willing to conceive within 2 years were enrolled in the study and took National Free Prepregnancy Checkups(NFPC). A reliably structured self-rating scale was used to measure the TCM preconception health patterns of the enrolled women. A 3-year follow-up was conducted to obtain the fertility outcomes, including pregnancy rate, time to pregnancy, spontaneous miscarriage and newborn status. statistical analyses were conducted using Chi-square or Fisher’s exact tests, logistic regression models, general linear models and the Cox proportional hazard ***: The fertility outcomes showed no statistic correlations to the terms of NFPC in this *** a half of the women(46.66%) had unhealthy patterns. Women with qi & blood-deficiency(odds ratio [OR] = 35.19, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.55–801.15) or qi-stagnation(OR = 4.55, 95% CI =0.90–23.06) pattern took a longer time to get pregnant, and those with qi-stagnation(OR = 2.05, 95% CI =1.1–3.82) or yang-deficiency(OR = 1.91, 95% CI = 1.12–3.25) pattern had a higher risk of spontaneous ***: Three unhealthy TCM patterns during the preconception period might be risk factors for low fecundity or poor pregnancy outcomes. The TCM preconception pattern identification may provide a convenient and effective way to screen for potential pregnancy risks beyond the NFPC. Further, appropriate interventions based on the TCM preconception health patterns are needed to improve quality in women’s fecundability and birth outcomes.

Command and Control Cities in Global space-economy Before and after 2008 Geo-economic Transition

The global economic downturn caused primarily by the Us sub-prime mortgage crisis in 2007 engendered revenue loss of the multinational corporations. Existing studies have yet to depict the detrimental impacts on city＇s command and control functions induced by the sub-prime mortgage crisis together with its residual wave of global economic recession on the global spatial economy. Recent and previous studies have produced an ＇instant history＇ of the global spatial economy before the global economic downturn undermines the global economy in late 2008. How- ever, the waxes and wanes of major cities＇ command and control functions on the global economic arena before and after the outbreak of financial crisis and its associated geo-economic transitions are still poorly understood. This paper attempts to contribute a new set of customized data to update and fill in the gap in the literature with the investigation of the command and control functions of cities arotmd the world from 2005 to 2009. Particular attentions are paid to the time-space relationship of the geo-economic transition that can capture the recent historical images of the com- mand and control situation of different cities in the world.

The board size is also an interesting legal issue because it is subject to the company law. The existing Company Law of the People＇s Republic of China sets upper and lower limits both on joint stock companies and limited companies. such a strict legislative model is unique in the world According to classical political theory, the recognition of free people is the most fundamental origin of the legitimacy of law. Therefore, the companies themselves are supposed to discover corporate governance pattern themselves. Is it necessary for legislators to set a limit on the number of directors？ lf so, shouM such limit be or permissive？ What are the theoretical basis, the purpose, and the real effects of such a norm？ This article attempts to answer the questions raised above.

Origin of sulfur and Mode of Gypsum Formation in Central Iraqi soils

The δ18O and 8D values of gypsum crystallization water together with δ18O and 834s of sulfates were used as reliable techniques to study source of sulfur and mode of gypsum formation in selected central Iraqi soils. six representative pedons on different geologic units were studied. The slope of 3.9 for δ18O and 8D plot of gypsum crystallization water showed that evaporation was the major process of gypsum deposition in the study area. The mean 834s value of ＋17.58 %0 showed that Cretaceous sea sulfate followed by Tertiary is the source of sulfur in studied soils. The heavier 834s value （＋17.58 %0） of the study area compared to central Iran （＋13.5 %） proved that gypsum in central Iraq soils has been formed in the later stage of evaporation and that Iraqi landforms were cut off from the Tethys seaway after central Iran was evolved.

Risk of gastric cancer development after eradication of Helicobacter pylori

Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) infection is the most important risk factor for gastric cancer(gc) development through the correa's gastric carcinogenesis cascade. However, H. pylori eradication alone does not eliminate gc, as pre-neoplastic lesions(atrophic gastritis, intestinal metaplasia and dysplasia) may have already developed in some patients. It is therefore necessary to identify patients at high-risk for gastric cancer after H. pylori eradication to streamline the management plan. If the patients have not undergone endoscopy with histologic assessment, the identification of certain clinical risk factors and non-invasive testing(serum pepsinogen) can predict the risk of atrophic gastritis. For those with suspected atrophic gastritis, further risk stratification by endoscopy with histologic assessment according to validated histologic staging systems would be advisable. Patients with higher stages may require long-term endoscopic surveillance. Apart from secondary prevention to reduce deaths by diagnosing gc at an early stage, identifying medications that could potentially modify the gc risk would be desirable. The potential roles of a number of medications have been suggested by various studies, including proton pump inhibitors(PPIs), aspirin, statins and metformin. However, there are currently no randomized clinical trials to address the impact of these medications on gc risk after H. pylori eradication. In addition, most of these studies failed to adjust for the effect of concurrent medications on gc risk. Recently, large population-based retrospective cohort studies have shown that PPIs were associated with an increased gc risk after H. pylori eradication, while aspirin was associated with a lower risk. The roles of other agents in reducing gc risk after H. pylori eradication remain to be determined.

Geodesic metrics on fractals and applications to heat kernel estimates

It is well known that for a Brownian motion, if we change the medium to be inhomogeneous by a measure μ, then the new motion(the time-changed process) will diffuse according to a different metric D(·, ·).In 2009, Kigami initiated a general scheme to construct such metrics through some self-similar weight functions g on the symbolic space. In order to provide concrete models to Kigami’s theoretical construction, in this paper,we give a thorough study of his metric on two classes of fractals of primary importance: the nested fractals and the generalized sierpinski carpets;we further assume that the weight functions g := ga are generated by“symmetric” weights a. Let M be the domain of a such that Dgadefines a metric, and let s be the boundary of M. One of our main results is that the metrics from ga satisfy the metric chain condition if and only if a ∈ *** determine M and s, we provide a recursive weight transfer construction on the nested fractals, and a basic symmetric argument on the sierpinski carpet. As an application, we use the metric chain condition to obtain the lower estimate of the sub-Gaussian heat kernel. This together with the upper estimate obtained by Kigami allows us to have a concrete class of metrics for the time change, and the two-sided sub-Gaussian heat kernel estimate on the fundamental fractals.

Cerebral ischemia is a major health risk that requires preventive approaches in addition to drug *** exercise enhances neurogenesis and synaptogenesis,and has been widely used for functional rehabilitation after *** this study,we determined whether exercise training before disease onset can alleviate the severity of cerebral *** also examined the role of exercise-induced circulating factors in these *** mice were subjected to 14 days of treadmill exercise training before surgery for middle cerebral artery *** found that this exercise pre-conditioning strategy effectively attenuated brain infarct area,inhibited gliogenesis,protected synaptic proteins,and improved novel object and spatial memory *** analysis showed that circulating adiponectin plays a critical role in these preventive effects of *** activation of adiponectin receptors by Adipo Ron mimicked the effects of exercise,while inhibiting receptor activation abolished the exercise *** summary,our results suggest a crucial role of circulating adiponectin in the effects of exercise pre-conditioning in protecting against cerebral ischemia and supporting the health benefits of exercise.

为改善台风预报精度,基于实时滚动修正预报思路,利用卷积神经网络嵌套长短期记忆神经网络(CNN-LsTM)和误差校正(EC)技术,搭建了珠江河口台风实时预报模型。研究结果表明:“滚动预报”比单次预报有更好的路径和强度预报效果,随着模型滚动时间的延长,预报整体精度有逐渐改善的趋势。路径预报结果的均方根误差比单次预报减小了25.67%,强度预报结果的平均绝对误差比单次预报减小了65.04%;考虑误差校正的CNN-LsTM-EC的路径、强度“滚动预报”效果均优于CNN-LsTM,前者的路径预报误差较后者减小了22.57%,强度预报误差减小2.5%。
