Chinese medicine practitioner turnover rate and the development of Chinese medicine in Hong Kong,China

Objective:To establish that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region(HKSAR)government is actively promoting Chinese medicine(CM)and to examine turnover rate of Chinese medicine practitioners(CMPs)in Hong Kong,China in light of this governmental ***:This study covered two major areas:reviewing CM development in Hong Kong,and assessing the turnover rate of CMPs in Hong *** first part of the paper is a historical *** investigation of turnover rate had two *** 1,quantitative method,involved online questionnaires;Section 2,qualitative method comprised interviews with CMPs from different types of CM clinics to ascertain the reasons for the turnover among ***:A total of 123 online questionnaires were received in Section 1(55 from male CMPs;66 from female CMPs;2 respondents were unwilling to disclose their sex).The proportion of CMPs who had resigned in 2018e19 was 22.8%(28),of whom 5.7%(7)had resigned twice in one *** rates of resignation in 3 years and 5 years were up to 40.7%(50)and 56.9%(70),*** CMPs were interviewed in Section *** CMPs were more likely to resign than *** large gap between actual salary and expectations appeared to be the main reason for the high rate of ***:HKSAR government keenly desires to promote CM in Hong Kong,however,high turnover rate of CMPs was detected even under this positive governmental *** is an urgent need to conduct a more representative study of the reasons for the inclination of CMPs in Hong *** study highlights an important issue in CM development,and these results should remind different stakeholders in the CM industry and the government that CMPs need better career prospects and support in various areas.

Occurrence of spleen qi deficiency as defined by Chinese medicine in Parkinson disease

Objective:To investigate the frequency of deficiency of spleen qi (DSQ) in persons with Parkinson disease (PD) as well as the correlation between DSQ and ***:This study comprised three parts:determining the frequency of DSQ in participants with PD;comparing the frequency of DSQin PD and non-PD participants;and monitoring DSQ in participants with PD for 24 *** measurements were a modified DSQ scale and the Chinese version of the Parkinson Disease Questionnaire 39 (C-PDQ39).Results:A total of 187 participants with PD (mean ages 69.9 ± 9.6 years) completed the assessment in Part *** these,170 (90.9%) were diagnosed as having *** non-PD participants (mean ages 66.6 ± 10.2 years) completed the assessment in Part *** these 11 (36.7%) were diagnosed as having *** correlations between total DSQ score and Hoehn-and-Yahr (H&Y) stage (correlation 0.316;P <.001),as well as between DSQ and total C-PDQ39 score (correlation 0.572;P <.001),were *** Part 3,47 participants from Part 1 were observed for 24 *** in DSQ symptoms was noted,but all participants developed DSQ by the end of the ***:DSQ is 2.5 times higher in PD participants than in the non-PD *** PD participants had DSQ in the advanced H&Y stages.A larger study is needed to validate these results on the prevalence of DSQ in persons with PD.

Women’s preconception health patterns in traditional Chinese medicine as a predictor of fertility outcomes

Objective: To examine the association between traditional Chinese medicine(TCM), preconception health patterns and fertility ***: A community-based prospective cohort study was conducted in China. A total of 3012 newly married women who were willing to conceive within 2 years were enrolled in the study and took National Free Prepregnancy Checkups(NFPC). A reliably structured self-rating scale was used to measure the TCM preconception health patterns of the enrolled women. A 3-year follow-up was conducted to obtain the fertility outcomes, including pregnancy rate, time to pregnancy, spontaneous miscarriage and newborn status. Statistical analyses were conducted using Chi-square or Fisher’s exact tests, logistic regression models, general linear models and the Cox proportional hazard ***: The fertility outcomes showed no statistic correlations to the terms of NFPC in this *** a half of the women(46.66%) had unhealthy patterns. Women with qi & blood-deficiency(odds ratio [OR] = 35.19, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.55–801.15) or qi-stagnation(OR = 4.55, 95% CI =0.90–23.06) pattern took a longer time to get pregnant, and those with qi-stagnation(OR = 2.05, 95% CI =1.1–3.82) or yang-deficiency(OR = 1.91, 95% CI = 1.12–3.25) pattern had a higher risk of spontaneous ***: Three unhealthy TCM patterns during the preconception period might be risk factors for low fecundity or poor pregnancy outcomes. The TCM preconception pattern identification may provide a convenient and effective way to screen for potential pregnancy risks beyond the NFPC. Further, appropriate interventions based on the TCM preconception health patterns are needed to improve quality in women’s fecundability and birth outcomes.

Menstrual cycle characteristics as an indicator of fertility outcomes:evidence from prospective birth cohort study in China

OBJECTIVE:To evidently assess the applicability of regulate menstrual cycle(MC)characteristics in Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)as an indicator for ***:A community-based prospective cohort study was conducted in *** January 2010 and December 2012,women who were willing to conceive within 2 years were enrolled in the *** than the MC length pattern,a well-adopted MC characteristic,menstrual blood color and clots were specifically concerned for women *** participants were followed up in 2 years by trained *** rate,fecundability odds ratio(FOR)and risk of miscarriage were assessed as fertility ***:A total of 2109 women were effectively included in this cohort for *** show that women with irregular MC length were less likely to achieve conception(FOR_(irregular)=0.59;95%CI=0.45-0.77,P<0.001).Menstrual blood in bright red color was also associated with decline in likelihood of conception(FOR=0.79;95%CI=0.63-0.98,P=0.04).Women with menstrual blood in light red were at higher risk of miscarriage(OR=2.39;95%CI=0.91-6.28,P=0.08).No significant impact was found between menstrual blood clots and fertility outcomes(FOR=1.02,95%CI=0.83-1.25,P=0.88;OR=1.2695%CI=0.77-2.07,P=0.35).CONCLUSIONS:MC characteristics can be an effective and simple indicator for women’s *** the knowledge of MC characteristics for women in reproductive ages would bring great benefits to their preconception health conditions.

Convergence of principles of palliative care and integrative medicine has led to the introduction of the new practice of integrative palliative care in which integrative therapies(including mind-body modalities,traditional Chinese medicine,Ayurveda,and dietary supplements)are used to provide symptom management for patients who are dying or experiencing the sequelae of serious illness and its *** propose an East-West Integrative palliative care model using non-drug therapies,such as acupuncture,diet,exercise,and stress management that shift the paradigm from suppressing the symptoms of illness to addressing both the root cause of the symptoms and the imbalance and declining homeostatic reserve that perpetuate these *** whole-person model expands the reach of palliative care,prolonging a better quality of life and allowing the patient to maintain as many activities as possible by preventing symptoms and improving *** this approach we reframe the dialogue such that patients are"living better"rather than"dying better"when faced with serious illness or *** this article,we provide an overview of the principles of palliative care,integrative medicine,and the novel area of integrative palliative care,and propose an East-West integrative palliative care model that incorporates and broadens the scope of these existing approaches.

Selective deposition of a MOF at the spikes of Au nanostars for SERS detection

In the pursuit of advancing molecular sensing through surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy(SERS),the combination of plasmonic nanoparticles and metal-organic frameworks(MOFs)has emerged as a highly effective approach to enhance the sensitivity and selectivity of SERS ***,most prior investigations have predominantly focused on MOF-coated plasmonic nanoparticles in core@shell or layer-by-layer configurations,leaving a notable knowledge gap in exploring alternative *** we present a facile method to construct a particle-on-mirror architecture by selectively coating a MOF,zeolitic imidazolate framework-8(ZIF-8),onto the tips of Au nanostars and subsequently depositing the resultant nanoparticles onto a Au *** design integrates the electric field enhancement at the sharp tips and nanogaps,along with the molecular enrichment function within the porous MOF immobilized at the tips and nanogaps,leading to a substantial boost in the SERS signal *** a unique SERS platform enables consistent and outstanding SERS performance for analytes of different *** work opens up a promising strategy for constructing multifunctional nanostructures for sensitive SERS detection in real-life scenarios.

Poland has a unique history of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)dating back to the 17th century when Polish missionary Michael(Michal)Boym was a pioneer in the *** the 20th century,his successor,Professor Zbigniew Garnuszewski,reintroduced acupuncture to medical practice in ***,other methods of TCM and its holistic approach to patient care have not found their place in modern medicine in *** present,the legal status of TCM in Poland remains unregulated,with TCM included in the broad spectrum of complementary and alternative medicine(CAM)*** reports are available on the use of TCM methods among the Polish *** medicine combines conventional medicine with evidence-based CAM interventions and considers all aspects of a patient's health,including physical,emotional,mental,social,and environmental *** integrative healthcare model that incorporates TCM modalities and lifestyle recommendations as well as a whole person approach may provide a more sustainable solution for the constantly underfinanced Polish healthcare system,which faces challenges of multimorbidity in an aging society and limited access to *** coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic,war in Ukraine,and ongoing climate crisis have underscored the need to strengthen the resilience of the Polish healthcare system and search for new solutions.A model of care that blends the best of biomedicine and TCM healing approaches may be a better option for both patients and the healthcare system in Poland.

Epac2-deficiency leads to more severe retinal swelling, glial reactivity and oxidative stress in transient middle cerebral artery occlusion induced ischemic retinopathy

Ischemia occurs in diabetic retinopathy with neuronal loss, edema, glial cell reactivity and oxidative stress. Epacs, consisting of Epac 1 and Epac2, are cAMP mediators playing important roles in maintenance of endothelial barrier and neuronal functions To investigate the roles of Epacs in the pathogenesis of ischemic retinopathy, transient middle cerebral artery occlusion （tMCAO） was performed on Epacl-deficient （Epacl-/- ） mice, Epac2-deficient （Epac2-/-） mice, and their wild type counter-parts （Epacl＋/＋ and Epac2＋/＋）. Two-hour occlusion and 22-hour reperfusion were conducted to induce ischemia/reperfusion injury to the retina. After tMCAO, the contralateral retinae displayed similar morphology between different genotypes. Neu-ronal loss, retinal edema and increase in immunoreactivity for aquaporin 4 （AQP4）, glial fibrillary acidic protein （GFAP）, peroxiredoxin 6 （Prx6） were observed in ipsilateral retinae. Epac2 / ipsilateral retinae showed more neuronal loss in retinal ganglion cell layer, increased retinal thickness and stronger immunostaining of AQP4, GFAP, and Prx6 than those of Epac2＋/＋. However, Epacl-/- ipsilateral retinae displayed similar pathology as those in Epacl＋/＋ mice. Our observations suggest that Epac2-deficiency led to more severe ischemic retinopathy after retinal ischemia/reperfusion injury.

A joint computational-experimental study of intracranial aneurysms:Importance of the aspect ratio

Rupture of a cerebral aneurysm （abnormal swelling of blood vessel in the brain） will cause subarachnoid hemorrhage, and will result in an alarming rate of mortality and morbidity. A joint computational-experimental study is conducted to assess the importance of the aspect ratio in the dynamics of blood flow. The aspect ratio is defined here to be the ratio of the height of the aneurysm to the linear dimension of the neck. Idealized models of such aneurysms located near a bifurcation point were investigated. Numerical simulations for hemodynamic properties like shear stress and flow rate were performed. The computational results were verified experimentally with specially fabricated phantoms, blood mimicking fluid and Doppler ultrasound imaging. Excellent agreements were obtained. Two features are highlighted, providing information in the intensely debated link between rupture risk and geometric factors. On increasing the aspect ratios, firstly, a jet impinging on the distal part of the neck can be observed, and secondly, a region of positive shear stress gradient can be found there. Furthermore, computational analyses for four patient-specific models were conducted to correlate with the results of idealized models and to provide further clinical insight.
