The experimental prospects of the Bc studies of the LHCb experiment are discussed. Production rates of Bc mesons at different center-of-mass energies are estimated with the dedicated generator BCVEGPY. Theoretical estimates and experimental measurements of the Bc± inclusive production cross section at /s =1.96 TeV are compared. The possibilities of studying Bc production, Bc spectroscopy, Bc decays and CP violation in Bc decays in the LHCb experiment are evaluated.

Campaigns were conducted to measure Organic Carbon （OC） and Elemental Carbon （EC） in PM2.5 during winter and summer 2003 in Beijing. Modest differences of PM2.5 and PM10 mean concentrations were observed between the winter and summer campaigns. The mean PM2.5/PM10 ratio in both seasons was around 60%, indicating PM2.5 contributed significantly to PM10. The mean concentrations of OC and EC in PM2.5 were 11.2±7.5 and 6.0±5.0 μg m^-3 for the winter campaign, and 9.4±2.1 and 4.3±3.0 μg m^-3 for the summer campaign, respectively. Diurnal concentrations of OC and EC in PM2.5 were found high at night and low during the daytime in winter, and characterized by an obvious minimum in the summer afternoon. The mean OC/EC ratio was 1.87±0.09 for winter and 2.39±0.49 for summer. The higher OC/EC ratio in summer indicates some formation of Secondary Organic Carbon （SOC）. The estimated SOC was 2.8 μg m^-3 for winter and 4.2 μg m^-3 for summer.

Many countries are promoting biofuels as a substitute for scarce oil. This paper develops a dynamic model of land allocation between food and energy and shows how the model can be calibrated using standard optimization techniques. Some possible implications of the trade-offs between food and energy are discussed. Specifically, we show that the effect of mandates is mainly felt through increased land conversion, which increases indirect carbon emissions Crude oil prices do not decrease significantly because of leakages.

We present a catheter-based optical diffusion and fluorescence(ODF)probe to study the functional changes of the brain in *** ODF probe enables the simultaneous detection ofthe multi-wavelength absorbance and fluorescence emission from the living rat *** previous studies,including a transient stroke experiment of the rat brain as well as the brainresponse to cocaine,have established the feasibility of simultaneously determining changes incerebral blood volume(CBV),tissue oxygenation(StO2)and intracellular calcium([Ca^(2+)]i,using the fluorescence indicator Rhod2).Here,we present our preliminary results of somatosensory response to electrical forepaw stimulation obtained from the rat cortical brain by using theODF probe,which indicate that the probe could track brain activation by directly detecting[Ca^(2+)]i along with separately distinguishing CBV and StO2 in real *** changes of CBV,StO2 and[Ca^(2+)]i are comparable with the blood-oxygen-level-dependent(BOLD)response tothe stimulation obtained using functional magnetic resonance imaging(fMRI).However,thehigh temporal resolution of the optical methodology is advanced,thus providing a new modalityfor brain functional studies to understand the hemodynamic changes that underlie the neuronalactivity.

Proteomics allows the large-scale study of protein expression either in whole organisms or in purified organelles. In particular, mass spectrometry （MS） analysis of gel-separated proteins produces data not only for protein identification, but for protein structure, location, and processing as well. An in-depth analysis was performed on MS data from etiolated hypocotyl cell wall proteomics ofArabidopsis thaliana. These analyses show that highly homologous members of multigene families can be differentiated. Two lectins presenting 93% amino acid identity were identified using peptide mass fingerprinting. Although the identification of structural proteins such as extensins or hydroxyproline/proline-rich proteins （H/PRPs） is arduous, different types of MS spectra were exploited to identify and characterize an H/PRP. Maturation events in a couple of cell wall proteins （CWPs） were analyzed using site mapping. N-glycosylation of CWPs as well as the hydroxylation or oxidation of amino acids were also explored, adding information to improve our understanding of CWP structure/function relationships. A bioinformatic tool was developed to locate by means of MS the N-terminus of mature secreted proteins and N-glycosylation.

BACKGROUND Gastrointestinal stromal tumors(GISTs)are the most common mesenchymal tumors of the gastrointestinal *** most of them harbor a KIT mutation(75%),selective kinase inhibitors are the therapeutic option and show a sustained objective response among patients with metastatic or unresectable GISTs.A wellknown higher risk of neoplasm has been described among renal transplant recipients(RTRs).Nevertheless,only few cases of GIST onset among transplant patients have been reported in the *** SUMMARY Here,we describe 2 cases of gastric GIST occurring during the follow-up of *** also review the existing literature concerning GIST occurrence in transplant *** total and in association with our 2 cases,16 patients have been *** median age was 59.5 years and 69%were *** a median tumor size of 45 mm,no patient displayed metastatic dissemination at *** from transplantation to diagnosis was highly variable between 5 mo and 21 *** data mostly revealed high risk of progression(43%).Death increased to 29%during *** treatment was systematically performed when the tumor was operable(94%).The use of adjuvant therapy was uncommon(19%).CONCLUSION GISTs represent rare but potentially severe malignant complication among transplant patients.
