Thermal pretreatment of willow branches impacts yield and pore development of activated carbon in subsequent activation with ZnCl_(2) via modifying cellulose structure

Development of pore structures of activated carbon(AC)from activation of biomass with ZnCl_(2) relies on content and structure of cellulose/hemicellulose in the *** pretreatment of biomass could induce dehydration and/or aromatization to change the structure of cellulose/*** might interfere with evolution of structures of AC,which was investigated herein via thermal pretreatment of willow branch(WB)from 200 to 360℃and the subsequent activation with ZnCl_(2) at 550℃.The results showed that thermal pretreatment at 360℃(WB-360)could lead to substantial pyrolysis to form biochar,with a yield of 31.9%,accompanying with nearly complete destruction of cellulose crystals and remarkably enhanced aromatic ***,cellulose residual in WB-360 could still be activated to form AC-360 with specific surface area of 1837.9 m~2·g^(-1),which was lower than that in AC from activation of untreated WB(AC-blank,2077.8 m~2·g^(-1)).Nonetheless,the AC-200 from activation of WB-200 had more developed pores(2113.9 m~2·g^(-1))and superior capability for adsorption of phenol,due to increased permeability of ZnCl_(2) to the largely intact cellulose structure in *** thermal pretreatment did increase diameters of micropores of AC but reduced the overall yield of AC(26.8%for AC-blank versus 18.0%for AC-360),resulting from accelerated cracking but reduced intensity of ***-situ infrared characterization of the activation showed that ZnCl_(2) mainly catalyzed dehydration,dehydrogenation,condensation,and aromatization but not cracking,suppressing the formation of derivatives of cellulose and lignin in *** thermal pretreatment formed phenolic-OH and C=O with higher chemical innerness,which changed the reaction network in activation,shifting morphology of fibrous structures in AC-blank to“melting surface”in AC-200 or AC-280.

Meiosis is the process of producing haploid gametes through a series of complex chromosomal events and the coordinated action of various *** mitochondrial protease complex(ClpXP),which consists of caseinolytic mitochondrial matrix peptidase X(ClpX)and caseinolytic protease P(ClpP)and mediates the degradation of misfolded,damaged,and oxidized proteins,is essential for maintaining mitochondrial *** has been implicated in meiosis regulation,but its precise role is currently *** this study,we engineered an inducible male germ cell-specific knockout caseinolytic mitochondrial matrix peptidase X(Clpx^(cKO))mouse model to investigate the function of ClpX in *** found that disrupting Clpx in male mice induced germ cell apoptosis and led to an absence of sperm in the ***,it caused asynapsis of homologous chromosomes and impaired meiotic recombination,resulting in meiotic arrest in the zygotene-to-pachytene transition *** loss of ClpX compromised the double-strand break(DSB)repair machinery by markedly reducing the recruitment of DNA repair protein RAD51 homolog 1(RAD51)to DSB *** dysfunction may be due to an insufficient supply of energy from the aberrant mitochondria in Clpx^(cKO) spermatocytes,as discerned by electron ***,ubiquitination signals on chromosomes and the expression of oxidative phosphorylation subunits were both significantly attenuated in Clpx^(cKO) *** together,we propose that ClpX is essential for maintaining mitochondrial protein homeostasis and ensuring homologous chromosome pairing,synapsis,and recombination in spermatocytes during meiotic prophase I.

The present study monitored bacterial succession， physicochemical properties， and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) changes in smoked chicken legs with modified atmosphere packaging (MAP， 60% CO2and 40% N2) during a 25-day storage period at 4 ℃. After 15 days of storage， Serratia proteamaculans and Pseudomonas fragi became the predominant bacteria. furthermore， physicochemical properties changed significantly， as evidenced by an increase in thiobarbituric acid reactive substances and b* (yellowness) value， and a decrease in hardness. A total of 65 VOCs were identified during storage. Correlation between bacterial succession and quality indicators (including VOCs and physicochemical properties) allowed the identification of 26 core dominant bacteria， including S. proteamaculans， Psychrobacter alimentarius， Pseudomonas putide， and Pseudomonas poae， which were positively related to spoilage VOCs (e.g.， 1-octen-3-ol， 1-pentanol， and 3-methyl-1-butanol) and could be defined as specific spoilage organisms (SSOs). The results of this study provide a systematic approach to predict SSOs in smoked chicken legs during storage， which can also provide a basis for product safety.

Efficacy and Safety of Antibiotics for the Treatment of Relapsing Fever:A Systematic Review and Network Meta-analysis

Relapsing fever is an acute infectious disease caused by a variety of relapsing fever-associated spirochetes,for which no optimal treatment has been *** purposes of this study were to compare the efficacy and safety of commonly used antibiotics for the treatment of relapsing fever using a network meta-analysis approach and to explore the advantages of each drug based on the current *** study examined nine published studies involving 1416 patients with relapsing fever treated with penicillin,erythromycin,tetracycline,doxycycline,minocycline or *** odds ratio(OR)and 95% confidence interval(CI)were used as influence indices for discontinuous data,and the efficacy and safety of drugs were ranked by the surface under the cumulative ranking(SUCRA)*** primary outcomes of this study were mortality and cure rates,and the secondary outcomes were the rates of Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction and ***(SUCRA,84.5%)was the most effective antibiotic for reducing mortality,whereas tetracycline was the most effective antibiotic for improving the cure rate(SUCRA,69.3%)and reducing the relapse rate(SUCRA,79.7%),and minocycline(SUCRA,66.4%)was the most effective antibiotic for reducing Jarisch-Herxheimer *** addition,our network meta-analysis showed that tetracycline is superior to penicillin for improving the cure rate(OR,5.91;95%CI,2.21-15.81)and reducing the relapse rate(OR,0.16;95%CI,0.04-0.67).

Dear Editor,Although effective vaccines and antiviral therapies are available,hepatitis B virus(HBV)infection is still a serious global health *** HBV infection remains the principal cause of liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).HBV is a small DNA virus,owning a~3.2 kb genome that encodes several proteins:viral DNA polymerase,core antigen(HBcAg),E antigen(HBeAg),three surface antigens(PreS1/PreS2/HBsAg),and a regulatory X protein(HBx)(Lamontagne et al.,2016).X protein,named for its lack of homology with any known proteins,is a 154 aa protein that plays an essential role in HBV biology and regulates the development of HCC(Yang et al.,2022).Although previous studies have strongly expanded our understanding of HBx,the regulation of HBx is not completely elucidated.

Doubled haploid(DH)technology is an important tool in crop breeding because it can significantly accelerate the breeding ***1/MATL/NLD and ZmDMP are two key genes controlling haploid induction(HI)in maize,exhibiting a synergistic ***,it is unknown whether knock out of ZmDMP orthologs can stimulate HI in *** this study,a ZmPLA1 ortholog(OsPLA1)and two ZmDMP orthologs(OsDMP3 and OsDMP6)were identified in *** three genes encode plasma membrane-localized proteins and were highly expressed in mature *** of OsPLA1 in both Minghui 63 and Nipponbare resulted in reduced seed setting rate(SSR)and caused *** osdmp3,osdmp6 and the double mutant failed to trigger HI independently,nor increased the haploid induction rate(HIR)when combined with *** pollinations operations of QX654A with the ospla1 mutant significantly improve SSR,while reducing ***-seq profiling of mature ospla1 mutant anthers indicated that a large number of differentially expressed genes(DEGs)were enriched in redox homeostasis and lipid metabolic GO terms,plant hormone signal transduction,and MAPK signaling *** findings provide important insights towards construction of an efficient DH breeding technology and study of the molecular mechanism of HI in rice.

Insufficient sleep can produce a multitude of deleterious repercussions on various domains of human ***,the walnut(Juglans mandshurica)confers numerous salutary biological activities pertaining to ***,the sedative and hypnotic capacities of walnut's functional constituents remain *** this investigation,we analyzed the sedative and hypnotic components of the walnut Diaphragma juglandis fructus and innovatively discovered a compound,defined as 3-hydroxy-4-iminobutyric acid(HIBA),which disrupts motor activity and enhances sleep duration by regulating the neurotransmitters(GABA,DA,etc.)within the brain and serum of ***,a metabolomics approach of the serum,basal ganglia,hypothalamus,and hippocampus as well as the gut microbiota was undertaken to unravel the underlying molecular mechanisms of sleep *** data reveal that HIBA can regulate the metabolism of basal ganglia(sphingolipids,acylcarnitines,etc.),possibly in relation to HIBA's influence on the gut microbiome(Muribaculum,Bacteroides,Lactobacillus,etc.).Therefore,we introduce a novel natural product,HIBA,and explicate the modulation of sleep promotion in mice based on the microbiota-gut-brain *** study contributes fresh insights toward natural product-based sleep research.
