Changes in endoscopic patterns before and during COVID-19 outbreak:Experience at a single tertiary center in Korean

BACKGROUND The surge of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)patients has markedly influenced the treatment policies of tertiary hospitals because of the need to protect medical staff and contain viral transmission,but the impact COVID-19 had on emergency gastrointestinal endoscopies has not been *** To compare endoscopic activities and analyze the clinical outcomes of emergency endoscopies performed before and during the COVID-19 outbreak in Daegu,the worst-hit region in South *** This retrospective cohort study was conducted on patients aged≥18 years that underwent endoscopy from February 18 to March 28,2020,at a tertiary hospital in ***,laboratory findings,types and causes of emergency endoscopies,and endoscopic reports were reviewed and compared with those obtained for the same period in 2018 and *** From February 18 to March 28,a total of 366 emergent endoscopic procedures were performed:Upper endoscopy(170,50.6%),endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography(113,33.6%),and colonoscopy with sigmoidoscopy(53,15.8%).The numbers of procedures performed in 2018 and 2019 dropped by 48.8%and 54.8%,respectively,compared with those in *** the COVID-19 outbreak,the main indications for endoscopy were melena(36.7%),hematemesis(30.6%),and hematochezia(10.2%).Of the endoscopic abnormalities detected,gastrointestinal bleeding was the most common:39 cases in 2018,51 in 2019,and 35 in *** The impact of COVID-19 is substantial and caused dramatic reductions in endoscopic procedures and changes in patient ***-term follow-up studies are required to determine the effects of COVID-19 induced changes in the endoscopy field.

(Hf,Zr)O_(2)offers considerable potential for next-generation semiconductor devices owing to its nonvolatile spontaneous polarization at the ***,scaling this material to sub-5 nm thickness poses several challenges,including the formation of an interfacial layer and high trap *** particular,a low-k SiO_(2)interfacial layer is naturally formed when(Hf,Zr)O_(2)films are directly grown on a Si substrate,leading to high depolarization fields and rapid reduction of the remanent *** address these issues,we conducted a study to significantly improve ferroelectricity and switching endurance of(Hf,Zr)O_(2)films with sub-5 nm thicknesses by inserting a TiO_(2)interfacial *** deposition of a Ti film prior to Hf_(0.5)Zr_(0.5)O_(2)film deposition resulted in a high-k TiO_(2)interfacial layer and prevented the direct contact of Hf_(0.5)Zr_(0.5)O_(2)with *** findings show that the high-k TiO_(2)interfacial layer can reduce the SiO_(2)/Si interface trap density and the depolarization field,resulting in a switchable polarization of 60.2μC/cm^(2)for a 5 nm thick Hf_(0.5)Zr_(0.5)O_(2)***,we propose that inserting a high-k TiO_(2)interfacial layer between the Hf_(0.5)Zr_(0.5)O_(2)film and the Si substrate may offer a promising solution to enhancing the ferroelectricity and reliability of(Hf,Zr)O_(2)grown on the Si substrate and can pave the way for next-generation semiconductor devices with improved performance.

Gastric cancer is still a major cause of death *** laparoscopic gastrectomy(LG)has gained evidence as a standard treatment for early gastric cancer in the distal stomach,there are still concerns regarding its application for gastric cancer in the upper stomach and advanced gastric ***,LG has shown to have faster recovery,shorter hospital stay,less pain,and less blood loss in many retrospective and prospective *** application of LG has now extended from conventional radical gastrectomy to novel approaches such as function-preserving gastrectomy and sentinel-node navigated *** on the use of laparoscopy in treatment for stage IV gastric cancer are rare,but show that there may be some roles of LG in selected *** the development of new laparoscopic tools that augment human ability,the future of LG should move on from proving non-inferiority to demonstrating superiority compared to the traditional open gastrectomy.

Computing the User Experience via Big Data Analysis:A Case of Uber Services

As of 2020,the issue of user satisfaction has generated a significant amount of ***,we employ a big data approach for exploring user satisfaction among Uber *** develop a research model of user satisfaction by expanding the list of user experience(UX)elements(i.e.,pragmatic,expectation confirmation,hedonic,and burden)by including more elements,namely:risk,cost,promotion,anxiety,sadness,and ***,we collect 125,768 comments from online reviews of Uber services and perform a sentiment analysis to extract the UX *** results of a regression analysis reveal the following:hedonic,promotion,and pragmatic significantly and positively affect user satisfaction,while burden,cost,and risk have a substantial negative ***,the influence of expectation confirmation on user satisfaction is not ***,sadness,anxiety,and anger are positively related to the perceived risk of *** with sadness and anxiety,anger has a more important role in increasing the perceived burden of *** on these findings,we also provide some theoretical implications for future UX literature and some core suggestions related to establishing strategies for Uber and similar *** proposed big data approach may be utilized in other UX studies in the future.

A DIFFUSION–TRANSPORT HYBRID METHOD FOR ACCELERATING OPTICAL TOMOGRAPHY

It is well acknowledged that the equation of radiative transfer(ERT)provides an accurate prediction of light propagation in biological tissues,while the diffusion approximation(DA)is of limited accuracy for the transport ***,ERT-based reconstruction codes require much longer computation times as compared to DA-based reconstruction *** introduce here a computationally efficient algorithm,called a diffusion–transport hybrid solver,that makes use of the DA-or low-order ERT-based inverse solution as an initial guess for the full ERT-based reconstruction *** evaluate the performance of this hybrid method,we present extensive studies involving numerical tissue phantoms and experimental *** a result,we show that the hybrid method reduces the reconstruction time by a factor of up to 23,depending on the physical character of the problem.

Time series forecasting has become an important aspect of data analysis and has many real-world ***,undesirable missing values are often encountered,which may adversely affect many forecasting *** this study,we evaluate and compare the effects of imputationmethods for estimating missing values in a time *** approach does not include a simulation to generate pseudo-missing data,but instead perform imputation on actual missing data and measure the performance of the forecasting model created *** an experiment,therefore,several time series forecasting models are trained using different training datasets prepared using each imputation ***,the performance of the imputation methods is evaluated by comparing the accuracy of the forecasting *** results obtained from a total of four experimental cases show that the k-nearest neighbor technique is the most effective in reconstructing missing data and contributes positively to time series forecasting compared with other imputation methods.

Wave-tide-surge coupled model simulation for Typhoon Maemi

Reasonably accurate predictions of wave heights, current and elevations during storm events are vital information for marine operations and design of offshore and coastal structures in the surrounding seas of Korea Peninsula. Ocean circulation and wind-wave models have traditionally been run separately, but recent researches have identified potentially important interactions between current and wave motions. The coupled tide-surge and the WAM wave models at the atmospheric boundary layer and bottom boundary layer around the Korea Peninsula are applied for the Typhoon Maemi （0314） event. Communication between the models is aehievod using MPI. Results are compared with coastal tide gauges and moored wave buoys and comparisons are also made between wave computations from the coupled model and the independent third generation wave models. Results suggest that applying the fide-surge-coupled model can be an effective means of obtaining wave and storm surge predictions simultaneously.

Biomaterial-based drug delivery systems have been developed to expedite cartilage regeneration;however,challenges related to drug recovery,validation,and efficient drug delivery *** instance,compound K(CK)is a major metabolite of ginsenosides that is known to protect against joint degeneration by inhibiting the production of inflammatory cytokines and the activation of immune ***,its effects on cartilage degradation and tissue regeneration remain ***,tissue-adhesive drug delivery depots that stably adhere to cartilage defects are required for CK *** this study,CK-loaded adhesive patches were reported to seal cartilage defects and deliver CK to defect sites,preventing cartilage degradation and accelerating cartilage tissue *** patches are stable and suitable for application in surgical procedures under physiological conditions and show excellent adhesiveness to cartilage *** addition,there were no significant differences in the adhesive polymeric networks before and after CK ***-loaded hydrocaffeic acid-conjugated chitosan patches significantly inhibited the stimulation of cartilage-degrading enzymes and apoptosis in osteoarthritic cartilage by releasing CK in cartilage ***,the NFkB signaling pathway of released CK from the adhesive patches in the treatment of osteoarthritis is ***,the CK-loaded adhesive patches are expected to significantly contribute to cartilage regeneration.

Hepatic fat quantification magnetic resonance for monitoring treatment response in pediatric nonalcoholic steatohepatitis

AIM: To evaluate the possibility of treatment effect monitoring using hepatic fat quantification magnetic resonance(MR) in pediatric nonalcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH).METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of patients who received educational recommendations and vitamin E for NASH and underwent hepatic fat quantification MR from 2011 to *** fat fraction(%) was measured using dual- and triple-echo gradient-recalled-echo sequences at *** compliant and non-compliant groups were compared clinically,biochemically,and ***: Twenty seven patients(M:F = 24:3; mean age: 12 ± 2.3 years) were included(compliant group = 22,non-compliant = 5).None of the baseline findings differed between the 2 groups,except for triglyceride level(compliant vs non-compliant,167.7 mg/d L vs 74.2 mg/d L,P = 0.001).In the compliant group,high-density lipoprotein increased and all other parameters decreased after 1-year ***,there were various changes in the non-compliant *** fat fraction(-19.2% vs 4.6,P < 0.001),tripleecho fat fraction(-13.4% vs 3.5,P < 0.001),alanine aminotransferase(-110.7 IU/L vs-10.6 IU/L,P = 0.047),total cholesterol(-18.1 mg/d L vs 3.8 mg/d L,P = 0.016),and triglyceride levels(-61.3 mg/d L vs 11.2 mg/d L,P = 0.013) were significantly decreased only in the compliant *** change in body mass index and dual-echo fat fraction showed a positive correlation(ρ = 0.418,P = 0.030).CONCLUSION: Hepatic fat quantification MR can be a non-invasive,quantitative and useful tool for monitoring treatment effects in pediatric NASH.
