Estimation of Turbulent Sensible Heat and Momentum Fluxes over a Heterogeneous Urban Area Using a Large Aperture Scintillometer

The accurate determination of surface-layer turbulent fluxes over urban areas is critical to understanding urban boundary layer （UBL） evolution. In this study, a remote-sensing technique using a large aperture scintillometer （LAS） was investigated to estimate surface-layer turbulent fluxes over a highly heterogeneous urban area. The LAS system, with an optical path length of 2.1 km, was deployed in an urban area characterized by a complicated land-use mix （residential houses, water body, bare ground, etc.）. The turbulent sensible heat （QH） and momentum fluxes （z） were estimated from the scintillation measurements obtained from the LAS system during the cold season. Three-dimensional LAS footprint modeling was introduced to identify the source areas （＂footprint＂） of the estimated turbulent fluxes. The analysis results showed that the LAS-derived turbulent fluxes for the highly heterogeneous urban area revealed reasonable temporal variation during daytime on clear days, in comparison to the land-surface process-resolving numerical modeling. A series of sensitivity tests indicated that the overall uncertainty in the LAS-derived daytime QH was within 20%-30% in terms of the influence of input parameters and the non- dimensional similarity function for the temperature structure function parameter, while the estimation errors in z were less sensitive to the factors of influence, except aerodynamic roughness length. The 3D LAS footprint modeling characterized the source areas of the LAS-derived turbulent fluxes in the heterogeneous urban area, revealing that the representative spatial scales of the LAS system deployed with the 2.1 km optical path distance ranged from 0.2 to 2 km2 （a ＂micro-a scale＂）, depending on local meteorological conditions.

Transition metal dichalcogenide(TMD)layered semiconductors possess immense potential in the design of photonic,electronic,optoelectronic,and sensor ***,the sub-bandgap light absorption of TMD in the range from near-infrared(NIR)to short-wavelength infrared(SWIR)is insufficient for applications beyond the bandgap ***,we report that the sub-bandgap photoresponse of MoS_(2)/Au heterostructures can be robustly modulated by the electrode fabrication method *** observed up to 60%sub-bandgap absorption in the MoS_(2)/Au heterostructure,which includes the hybridized interface,where the Au layer was applied via sputter *** greatly enhanced absorption of sub-bandgap light is due to the planar cavity formed by MoS_(2) and Au;as such,the absorption spectrum can be tuned by altering the thickness of the MoS_(2) *** in the SWIR wavelength range increases due to increased absorption,which means that broad wavelength detection from visible toward SWIR is *** also achieved rapid photoresponse(~150μs)and high responsivity(17 mA W^(-1))at an excitation wavelength of *** findings demonstrate a facile method for optical property modulation using metal electrode engineering and for realizing SWIR photodetection in wide-bandgap 2D materials.

AIM： To demonstrate bone marrow stromal cells （BMSCs） can be used as an attractive target for genetic modification in the treatment of malignant diseases. METHODS： Using a hamster model of biliary cancer, we investigated the therapeutic effects of interleukin-2 （IL-2） gene-modified BHSCs. Syrian golden hamsters were injected via the femoral vein with 5×10^5 cells of the KIGB-5 biliary cancer cell line （n=20）. One week later, the hamsters were injected intraperitoneally with BMSCs containing Ad/hIL-2 and Ad/△E1, unmodified BHSCs, or RPHI only （control） and observed for 12 wk （n=5/each group）. RESULTS： All hamsters treated with BMSCs containing Ad/hIL-2 survived with no evidence of the disease during this period. In contrast, hamsters in the other three groups showed disseminated metastases involving the lungs as eady as 4 wk.CONCLUSION： Ad/IL-2 therapy is effective in the treatment of biliary cancer.

Analysis of intrahepatic sarcomatoid cholangiocarcinoma:Experience from 11 cases within 17 years

BACKGROUND Intrahepatic sarcomatoid chonalgiocarcinoma(s-CCC) is an extremely rare disease, accounting for less than 1% of hepatobiliary system malignancies, and its pathophysiology is not well known. On the hypothesis that its clinical, serologic,or radiologic diagnosis are not fully understood and its prognosis is poor, we investigated the distinguishing features of s-CCC compared with those of intrahepatic bile duct adenocarcinoma [cholangiocellular carcinoma(CCC)] in patients from a single *** To analyze the clinical, serologic, imaging, and histopathologic characteristics of intrahepatic s-CCC patients diagnosed in a single *** The clinical, serologic, imaging, and histopathologic features of 227 patients diagnosed with intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma(IHCC) in a single medical center during the last 17 years were analyzed. The characteristics of 11 patients with s-CCC were compared with those of 216 patients with *** The number of patients with s-CCC who presented fever and abdominal pain and past history of chronic viral hepatitis or liver cirrhosis(LC) was higher than that of patients with CCC. In imaging studies, patients with s-CCC showed relatively aggressive features. However, no clear distinction was observed between s-CCC and CCC based on other clinical, serologic or radiologic examination results. An accurate diagnosis could be made only via a histopathologic examination through immunohistochemical staining. Dopant-Tunable Ultrathin Transparent Conductive Oxides for Efficient Energy Conversion Devices

Ultrathin film-based transparent conductive oxides(TCOs)with a broad work function(WF)tunability are highly demanded for e cient energy conversion ***,reducing the film thickness below 50 nm is limited due to rapidly increasing resistance;furthermore,introducing dopants into TCOs such as indium tin oxide(ITO)to reduce the resistance decreases the transparency due to a trade-o between the two ***,we demonstrate dopant-tunable ultrathin(≤50 nm)TCOs fabricated via electric field-driven metal implantation(m-TCOs;m=Ni,Ag,and Cu)without com-promising their innate electrical and optical *** m-TCOs exhibit a broad WF variation(0.97 eV),high transmittance in the UV to visible range(89–93%at 365 nm),and low sheet resistance(30–60Ωcm-2).Experimental and theoretical analyses show that interstitial metal atoms mainly a ect the change in the WF without substantial losses in optical *** m-ITOs are employed as anode or cathode electrodes for organic light-emitting diodes(LEDs),inorganic UV LEDs,and organic photovoltaics for their universal use,leading to outstanding performances,even without hole injection layer for OLED through the WF-tailored *** results verify the proposed m-TCOs enable e ective carrier transport and light extraction beyond the limits of traditional TCOs.
